An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

anyone wanna quickly tell me the pros and cons of being a vampire? I've just had the offer from the dark brotherhood guy and am considering it.

You're more powerful in some ways and weaker in others. The effects of these magnify if you go for a few days without human blood.

Mild vampirism takes the form of a weakness to a mild weakness to fire and sunlight, but a couple of extra special powers and resistance to disease and normal weapons.
More extreme forms result in almost instant-death with contact to sunlight and fire, but a wealth of extra powers and greater resistances to other attacks. You may also become so physically changed by the disease that you won't be able to walk in normal society.

I dont know if its the mods ive installed or those partciles/pixels things but just recently oblivion has started to crash quite regular, ive saved over 200 times now and thats only in the past couple of days, espically after it crashed after id completed about 4 quests and hadnt saved.

Anyone using lighter arrows mod?

Do you know how to get this working??
it says in the readme :
Just drop the .esm into your oblivion\data directory

but the file is a .esp file....

anyone??

why?

I searched the thread for Vapire and it came up with 2-3 posts about CURING it not what it does.

Sorry 'bout the rolleyes VeNT, It was more about how you got the offer, combined with me being knackered and a grumpy old ******* :)

No offense intended, and I forgot to unsubscribe anyway :D

Another quick question for you guys, do your shop owners have unlimited cash, I see that in the transaction screen it tells you haow much they have but I appear to be able to sell them anything without it changing?

At the loadup splash screen select data and tick the box :)

Got another couple of questions:

1. I forgot to add blade to my stealth character - currently running around killing mudcrabs/rats etc. Is it going to take me an age to get to a respectable level in blade (and training too). How many hits to you have to get to get 1 pt too?

2. How do I increase acrobatics while questing?

My characters only lvl 2, but probably a lot higher as I haven't slept in the right places, due to questing! The lvl up bar's been full for the last few days!

Annoyingly it's meant to be this way. The ammount you see is the maximum ammount they'll pay per item, but they have an unlimited total ammount.

This sucks when every oblivion tower you complete sees you coming back with weapons worth 5k, but you're only able to get 1200 for them (or whatever the store will pay per item, I think this depends on your mercantile skill).

In morrowind if you wanted to sell an item for 5k, but the shopkeeper only had 1k, you could buy 4k of goods from the shop keeper, he'd then have 5k gold and be able to buy the big item from you. You could then go and sel the 4ks worth of stuff elsewhere, reapeating the same if neccesary until you've sold everything.

Having said that, I still have about 100k gold without cheating so I shouldn't really complain.

1. Blade should level up as quickly as any of the major skills, it just doesn't help you level up your character.

2. Jump about while running.

To add to what Davey said, when levelling a skill it takes less effort to increase say from level 10 to 11 than it takes to increase from level 30 to 31....

If you have a skill that's really low you can increase it a few levels in no time. I had to do this with my conjuration skill as it was pretty rubbish, so I bought a spell of bind weapon, and everytime I was about to fight someone I casted this spell. Litterally casting it 2 or 3 times would cause me to gain a level. However, now I'm a lot better at it, I have to cast 6 or 7 times to gain a level.

I guess it's a bit like real life.... the better you get the more effort it takes to get even better.

edit: and a good way to increase acrobaticals is to fall off of high places so it damages your health!! With practice you'll learn what jumps you can and can't survive... with a half decent amount of HP you should be fine.

Thanks guys :)

Blades currently only 9. Intend to get it to a respectable level through killing easy stuff and then training, to complement my arrows.

Jumping around suits my game-style, so acrobatics should level up a bit.

Magic skills seem to go up a lot quicker than other skills. My Restoration is going leaps and bounds! It's not even one of the skills I choose at the beginning.

As I said, the minor skills will improve at the exact same rate as your major skills, the only difference is that when you're improved your major skills 10 points (split over all of them, or just one of them), you'll level up. They don't increase any faster even though they're your major skills, they just start on a higher level :)

I think the penny's just dropped re: this leveling system. Greeat stuff Davey

Any tips for hand to hand combat?

Any hand to hand weapons? Gauntlets/gloves and such?

Any info about hand to hand would be nice, thankie.

I've never tried hand to hand combat in the game (except when I've accidentily unequipped a weaon :o), but I would guess you'd need very high strength for it. I've not see any gloves that would help, so I'd suggest getting access to the Arcane University and enchanting your current gloves with an "Enhance Strength" spell, that might help you somewhat.

I've started using it a lot. It was at a very low level so training up 10 levels of hand to hand (as a minor skill) per overall level guarantees me a points multiplier of 5x for strength.... my strength is now in the high 90s, plus I have some enchanted armour that adds about 10 to it.

If you're a low level go punch a few mud crabs or something like that. Eventually ou'll be able to take out a whole oblivion gate using nothing but your hands. The nice thing about hound to hand is it really fatigues your opponents and often knocks them to the floor, at which point you can keep hitting them :)

I've read somewhere else that ogres are great for solely hand to hand combat - put stats in strength and endurance and your set to clear pretty much everything!

Hehe, i've started doing that too, along with using blunt weapons on conjurared creatures to get +5 on my strength after levelling. It works a treat, since both are minor skills and are very low levels.

Thought I'd collate a few screenshots to show my character off a bit.

I've purposely made the image s a lot taller than wide so it does't mess up how the forums are displayed.

I can only dream of getting my character to that sort of level /\

I've run into a little problem - I've stolen some kit and had to kill off a guard - now whenever I venture back into the towns I get arrested straight away - is there a way round this other than fighting? (I have only got 200 gold) :o I'm not very good at it.
