either way it's a dumb weapon that's almost definitely going to hit nothing in spaceI thought they were lasers of some sort, not lightsabers.

lol
I just used lightsabres as a fill in word.
He has access to "stuff" why not have a kyber crystal focusing energy weapon, thats "basically" a light sabre right
its from an old drawing but then was going to be used in solo but got cut outLoved that capital ship, I am pretty sure I have seen it in a SW lore video somewhere. The way the front dish was obliterated by the weapon on Luthens ship. It was pretty refreshing seeing what appeared to be some type of ballistic weapon rather than energy based. The fact that it didn’t just blow up but was smashed into thousands of pieces that started to break away was very different in SW.
Another decent episode but that thing with his ship - nope.
I like that the bad guys aren't just 2D villains and loving being evil - much more sinister when they are rationalising the bad things they do, even feeling just in carrying out atrocities, etc.
I find it a bit dull at times though, but can't deny the development is something which has been badly missing from too many TV shows these days and most stuff builds up to a pay off even if a bit tedious sometimes to get through.
Those were lasers, and you know light sabres aren't lasers, right?Light sabres coming out the ship was some cringe disney moment where teenagers go mental.
totally spoilt the scene
still makes no sense. it's like sticking cxharriot spikes on a jetThose were lasers, and you know light sabres aren't lasers, right?

wasnt he fly some kind of hauler? not an agile fighter and in space I doubt you're going to get within a few metres of many ships. On the contrary, he knows that he's going to be fighting TIE fighters, which are known for being unshielded and therefore can be easily destroyed by a strafing shot at close range. The ability to drop this kind of surprise when heading towards them makes tactical sense.
Not sure why you are arguing against the point of him having lasers when he just demonstrated them working perfectly as intendedwasnt he fly some kind of hauler? not an agile fighter and in space I doubt you're going to get within a few metres of many ships.
may as well sdkip the lasers and just use the energy for beefy shields and ram people
I thought some of the star destroyer concept art was used for this ship.
Articles here. the design crops up in a lot of new hope documentaries.
What ever the type of weapon the "Spirit level" spinny laser beam emitters where style over substance....
no shields really is a terrible thing for those TIE fighters you do have to wonder what the empire was thinking.
According to the canonical TIE Fighter Owners' Workshop Manual, the TIE/In space superiority starfighter was designed and built without shield technology. This isn't the only significant feature that TIE fighters lack. The ships also have no hyperdrive, no extended life support and no navigational computer, things that are often essential parts of other spacecraft. The payoff for eschewing these heavy parts is speed. TIE fighters are designed to be fast with twin ion engines and a pair of laser cannons that strikes enemies down quickly.
Nevertheless, there was one member of the Empire who saw TIE fighters without shields as a flaw. Grand Admiral Thrawn believed a TIE fighter with shielding, and even a proper hyperdrive, could do wonders for the Empire during the Galactic Civil War. In Star Wars Rebels Season 4, Episode 6, "Flight of the Defender," Thrawn is working on a special ship called the TIE Defender, which comes fully equipped with shields and the other features the TIE fighter lacked.
As shown in the story mode of Star Wars Squadrons, TIE fighter pilots were expected to be the best so they did not have to rely on shields. In fact, just being a pilot was considered an honor. Potential pilots underwent rigorous training at Imperial flight training academies just to step inside a TIE fighter. Claudia Gray's canonical novel Lost Stars explains thatTIE pilots were taught that assisting their fellow pilots was their lowest priority. This teaching combined with the lack of shielding reflects the Emperor's belief that the subjects of his Empire were just expendable tools meant to serve him. Palpatine sought to have an empire ruled by fear with the completion of the Death Star. Every member of the Empire, from Imperial stormtroopers to TIE pilots, were merely pawns used to accomplish this goal.
It wasn't until the First Order came to power that all TIE fighters came equipped with deflector shields. While this was a positive upgrade, the First Order did not care any more for its pilots than the Empire did. In fact, it probably cared less considering its stormtroopers were raised without proper identities and treated more like mindless weapons. However, Palpatine or Supreme Leader Snoke must have realized the blatant flaw in not equipping combat ships with shields and opted to provide shielding for First Order pilots. Both the Galactic Empire and the First Order viewed its pilots and soldiers as tools meant to serve a greater empire. Although the First Order improved on the TIE fighter's flaws, TIE pilots would always be seen as expendable weapons of war.
