Andor (Star Wars)

Oh man that was such an awesome episode... the short space battle scene really gave me goosebumps!

As for the criticism of his "surprise"; focused laser beams are possible in a crude form now, so why would they not be possible in the Star Wars universe with its ridiculous level of tech and power sources? Clearly it was developed or at least used as a specific tactic against clusters of fighters passing closely by (which we have seen examples of in just about every Star Wars dogfight ever shown)... and it worked.

I'm not a fan of the Tie Fighter cutter but everything else about that episode was great. All of the pieces are being manoeuvred for the finale, really looking forward to it. I know many of you are underwhelmed by Diego Luna's performance but personally whilst I don't think he's been Stellan levels of stellar he has delivered a really good simmering performance. The more we see of the character the better the early episodes look because that contained nature of the character was there and maybe we didn't recognise it properly. The prison scenes particularly show that manipulator side of the character, he's not a leader as such.

Hands down this season has been the best of the D+ TV series so far (or at least from the Star Wars and MCU fold, maybe there is a cracking new show out there I've missed).

Its canon
I never really understood the whole shields vs no shields thing for star fighters, at least in the movies anyway. X-wings supposedly have all the things you listed missing on TIEs including shields yet they get 1shot killed in every fight you see them in. (with the only exception being possibly Wedge? Because plot armour?)

In the movies you just see the "final kill shot(s)" for dramatic effect, so it's of course possible that they took a fair few massed fire laser shots before that. You just have to fill in the gaps yourself.

In the canon/lore and games, the shields can soak a fair few starfighter few blasts before buckling.

If you played xwing Vs tie fighter for example it's all about balancing power output among shields propulsion and weapons.

One could say the 1 shotted pilots got their calculations wrong or a lucky shot hit an under defended area.

In a new hope the y wing Boyz mention setting front deflectors to full power when starting the trench run as it's assumed that only the surface towers will be attacking frontally.

Good spot!

Plus of course at the time of A New Hope the lore was but a glimmer in Lucas's eye compared to the encyclopaedic behemoth that it would become.

That's why I said 'in the movies anyway' . I've played all the various games where it explains it better and you can actually absorb damage. But to a casual movie viewer you hear constant references to shields that seem to do nothing and ships just constantly blowing up :D. "I've got one on my tail" PEWPEW dead. Cheers for nothing shields. Even capital ships get blown up easily...

Anyway we digress from the thread purpose I suppose.

I don’t think the capital ships get blown up that easily.

For example the Super star destroyer lost its bridge deflector dish as star fighter got in close under the shields and destroyed it. It was taken out by a direct impact from an out of control star fighter doing who knows what speed. The guns on the ship were designed to engage other capital ships so they ultimately missed the incoming tiny A-wing which are very fast.

That’s the one thing about the empire is that they don’t consider small fighters to be a threat within their capital ship designs because of their projected power.

If this turned out to be true I don't think I'd even be too mad.
It would certainly be one hell of a extra cliffhanger to series 2.
I'm also completely happy that's he's just who he is with one hell of a mysterious past as it is.... He certainly is ruthless and calculated he's gotta be trained exmilitary ex intelligence something hefty.

Such a good character:p

I had noticed myself a few times the way he carried staffs seemed odd and that scene with the "wooden club" seemed really odd. That is definitely not just a wooden club although it may not be a light sabre.
