hi
sorry for the long delay in replying :)

I was reading on another forum just a couple of days ago, apparently DVDboxoffice game orders are starting to get hit for customs now :(
I think that was the first time i've heard for certain of a DVDBO order sent using normal mail to get hit.

I thought i'd better post a warning as it's quite possible the days of them being customs safe are over, and that they may well be as safe/unsafe as any other retailer now.

On to happier things.

Has anyone here got the new UK Cowboy Bebop release?
I've just been watching disc 1 and the DVD quality is pretty good, no major problems that I've been able to spot (some very slight rainbows along some white edges, but i only caught them a couple of times). The menu is nicely done (I beleive it's based on the R2 Japanese menu rather than the R1).
My only gripes with the disc is that the only extras are some trailers for other Beez releases (see below), and that it doesn't seem to have a timecode that displays on the player at all (unless i've managed to turn it off on my Toshiba).
I'm hoping that the later releases will have the extras from the R1 and that the reason for not having them on this disc is because it had 5 episodes (so moving the main extras onto the remaining discs would even out the running time, and no doubt BBFC costs etc a bit)

The trailers are for Wolfs Rain, .Hack//Sign, and Witch Hunter Robin.
All three look very nice (no real signs that I could see of the ntsc>pal conversion) and are basically the opening sequences from the respective series.

My second Bebop disc should be arriving tommorow or Saturday with luck as it was posted on Tuseday.

i wonder if Spie would notice if I follow Cykey's advice from another thread and slip a dedicated anime subforum into DVD and Home Cinema?;)

recently just finished Maison Ikkoku 96 eps + OVA + movie...it took me about 2 weeks but it's so damn good.

The only DVDs that I'm buying at the moment are those renewal of evangelion DVDs. just preordered vol.6

dont really have that much of room to store them anyway.

I think normally though would charge you custom charge is the value of the item is over certain amount.
I used to order **** loads of CD from Japan (using EMS which gets to me within 3 days and it always go above £50) nobody charged me anything but after a period they started to charge me. I think it's randomly picked and if you do however order reguarly and become unlucky, they will watch out for your parcel.

dvds < these r all my DVDs. not much really.

also at www.therightstuf.com I bought "His and Her Circumstances" DVD box for $39.99 when it was randomly on sale and now I found out that the price shoots back up at $149.99 for the same boxset. damn, so proud of myself :D

Very tempted to watch this myself. I'm a big fan of Rumiko Takahashi (like most anime fans).

Is it good all the way through? Most long series tend to get dull/'same-y' after 50 eps or so.

well if you a romence fan you would absolutely love this series. I was totally following the story all the way through. However, it is 96 eps after all and some of the "non-related" filler eps do tend to get boring. But then again, since this story is about "normal day life" and so it was suppose to made be that way -> not about big story twist or intensive event happening. It's more of reflecting the life in the Flat of Ikkoku. Overall, this is 1 anime that you definitely should watch.

If you like this one, I highly recommend you Kimagure Orange Road too (which funnily enough, both male characters are so much alike). both of them came out around same period but it's about similar things, one's based on high school student (OG) and other on adults (MI) Those two are my all time fav

aye customs is only applicable if the package is over £18, hence the reason I make all my orders either for under £18, or massively over it :)

I don't mind the customs fees too much, I just hate paying £4 admin on a £4 customs charge.

I don't however think that customs pick out people in particular, but rather spend time looking for packages from particular retailers every now and then, but if they suspect a retailer is not marking packages correctly they will target them.
Amazon.com packages act like magnets when it comes to charges as they are so clearly marked and even the greenest customs officer can't miss them.

His and Her Circumstances is pretty good, I picked my set up from DVDsoon when i first came out (I think it cost me £45 at the time).
The main problem that the series has is that Gainex ran out of money towards the end of it (again), so the last couple of episodes are barely animated if memory serves, but oddly enough it doesn't seem to matter too much :)

Rightstuf are awsome for their bundle deals, and well worth keeping an eye on (they change their deals every thursday), I think they have some kind of deal with the main distributors to get excess stock or something as it's the only way I can explain their ability to sell titles that aren't going out of print for 60% off the RRP. I know they handle the mail in questionaires one of the companies (geonom?) includes in their DVD's.

I picked up Nadia (all 11 DVD's) from them last year for about $100, Gasaraki PC for $45 and a bundle of OST's (6 of them* in damaged cases) for $5:eek:
I was hesitant about ordering from them the first time due to their verification process, and a bit worried about the CD's as they were sold as being "damaged cases, but garunteed to play", but in reality the damage was just a couple of slightly cracked cases - i've come out of HMV with CD's that had worse damage to the case.

*Macross Plus OST, Macross Plus OST2, Macross 2, Sin (never listened to), Irresponsible Captain Tylor TV and OVA OST's

its very much like love hna its a romantic/comedy style manga (not yet been made into an anime) its about a lonley young man with a talent for computer programming he makes an AI programme who represents his perfect woman, one day a freak lighting storm brings her to life as a real girl the story follows the adventures of the guy and his new girlfreind i woudent really compare it to love hina becuse it was made along time before love hina and even though its kinda similair, i dont read much original Manga so its cool, worth a look at least.

as for other manga i'm reading love hina is one of them  simply becuse there are a lot of noticable plot diffrences in the manga when compared to the anime- not much else as i said i,m still new to manga usally watch anime instead however the FLCL manga looks particulaly good might have a look at that :)

Amazon are pretty good for anime and manga! :) I'm currently buying the Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 series on DVD from there (I have them all on VHS but want to get rid of all my VHS now.) The DVDs are costing on average about £8 each! Much cheaper than your local MVC! :D
