"tonari no totoro" would that be " my neighbour totoro"? ive heard very good things about this in the past, also looked at metropolis today but alas i have already spent my student loan and most of these will need to wait till january. i seen perfect blue a few years ago, and got slightly lost shall have to watch it again in the near future.

but thank you very much dragonhunter, that shall go to the textfile of purchases required.

If you like Sci-Fi then Ghost In The Shell:Standalone Complex gets my vote. Ghost In The Shell:Innocence (GITS Movie2) is due out 28th December (R1). One of my favorites is Patlabor although some people find the films a little slow. Don't bother with Appleseed (it's pap, my view) wait until the new version comes out next year.

Not exactly Sci-Fi (but close enough) is Last Exile, due out next month in this country.

Slightly offtopic.

There's a new Anime magazine coming out this week for the UK market, Called NEO due out 25-11. The first UK Anime magazine since Manga Mania & Anime UK/FX went out of print years ago. It's not just Anime but also includes JPOP and live action.

no worries. as you might have guessed, when i'm not spending money on my computer, i'm spending it on anime. had to put up a new shelf specially for it.
if you like, i can do you the first 2-3 eps of some series on a cd for you (VIVO's a great thing) and post them to you.

thanks for the offer but its cool, ill check whats on sky just now, outlaw star was on toonami for a bit, need to check through the night. and neon genesis evangelion was on sci-fi a while back as well iirc....

one request, can people avoid posting any links etc to fansubs, they are illegal in the same manner that downloads of the latest films are (covered by the same laws in a reciprical agreement* with Japan, the fact they don't have a UK/English language release doesn't come into it).

Personally going by the first post I would suggest Full Metal Panic as a funny sci-fi/mecha series with an ongoing story (it's actually got 3 sub stories + independant episodes in the first series from memory).

Dominion Tank Police is very funny, and has a good mix of action etc.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC, is very good, especially when you get into it and start setting the the underlying story flesh out (the main story episodes are the ones with "complex" in the title screen).
The Tachikoma mini's at the end of each episode are extremely funny most of the time.
I've just received disc 3 from the U.S. and can't wait to sit down and watch it in it's ful DTS glory :D
It's also got what I think is a very good dub (I love the tachikoma voices for example**)

Macross Plus is a very good sci-fi anime sort of like top gun in it's way.
The primary story is about a pair of test pilots competing to prove their fighter type is the one that should be adopted as the new standard.

Most of the titles i would recommend have already been suggested though :)

If you're after cheap legitimate anime I strongly recommend looking at Play.com as they have a load of anime titles cheap, including the great Macross Plus (3 disc edition with all 4 OVA's and the movie for £9), and most of ADV-UK's releases up until about June (most of Noir, FMP etc).

Finally first person to post "I love panties" can have the spare R1 copy of Najica Blitz Tactics i've had sitting here for the past few months :) (you will need a multi-region DVD player or multi-region DVD drive and software to watch it)

*Bourne Convention (i think is the spelling), any copyrighted work from any of the signatory countries is automatically treated as copyrighted in all the other countries that have signed up to it (which is most of the world including Japan, the U.S. and U.K).

**Sherry Lynne for example sounds just right for a Tachikoma (i think she gets the right tone of innocent mischief/curiosity almost perfectly).

Hm.

Good "action" sci-fi without martial arts include Scrapped Princess, which is more of a fantasy/sci-fi hybrid. It's about a girl, Pacifica, who is said to cause the world a certain doom at the age of 16. The anime explores the mystery surrounding her. However, I'm not sure when the DVDs will be released.

Another suggestion, if you want drama, is Twin Spica. The means of getting it I will not name here, for obvious reasons. While not set in a futuristic space station or alien planet or whatever, Twin Spica is a brilliant piece which tells the story of a girl who wants to go to space. She goes to a special school in order to persue this dream, and meets a cast of colourful characters who also share the same dream. While the basic premise sounds simple, it's a sad, melancholy series whose characters will grab you because of their backgrounds and histories, as well as the main character's struggles to become a space pilot.

You remember that series you said I should watch a while ago during my NAruto saga? Something of the Universe can't remember it. Or was that another fan service series?

Stellvia?

A couple of suggestions :-

GITS : SAC and 2nd Gig - Great series.
GITS : I - Good, although it gets very slow in places.
Macross Zero - Very well done, superbe animation and a nice storyline.

I must admit, I havent really seen many more series atm. Life is too buisy atm :(

Yes, Stellvia. It's one of the first anime fansubs I've seen :D.

Stellvia is similar to Twin Spica, the former containing more action. It's also a quality series, and highlights the idea that in order to overcome certain obstacles, everyone must pull together. Annoying little Shima Katase is the heroine of the story in yet another "save the world" type predictible plot. Despite that, it's a pleasant anime which can get a little sad at times, but ultimately, it's one of those feel-good series, supported by quality music and animation.

Yeah, watch that too.

It took you a while but I see you finally got out of your shell and found a post you can relate to :D. You leaving Gaming Worlds yet?

i dont think i love them that much.....
but more importantly, what would i do with a SECOND copy -__-

Did I miss something? And ecchi is not bad. There are many people like me that like our fan service.

Pixel, fansubs most certainly aren't legal. That link you posted (which I RTM'd by the way) even proves it.

Werewolf, how bad are the glitches on the GITS:SAC discs? I'm holding off until they're all out and fixed because every release has had a problem.
Oh and I love panties - up for trying anything. :) One of the first animes I ever saw was Kiki's Delivery Services, I was sat thinking "what the hell?!" when they showed hers for no reason several times. Kids film dammit!

What is .hack//SIGN like/about? I love the music (Yuki Kajiura
icon14.gif
) but haven't watched any of it.
Only series I've seen are GITS:SAC (excellent but eps too short) and Noir (great musc but too slow and repetitive). Fancy trying something new.

the glitches in SAC (at least the R1's) are on the DTS tracks :(

disk 1 and 2 had a problem with the rear speaker volumes on the Japanese tracks.

Disc 3 apparently has a problem with the english 5.1 and DTS mix during the introductions/opening sequence/musc (but the actual episodes are fine).

Disk 2 had a labeling problemw that should be sorted now, basically the DTS discs had the label for the normal disc and vice versa.

Also the OST included with the LE of disc 1 had a problem with it's tracks (basically it had one track cut in half).

The U.K. release I'm not sure about, but by all accounts the Madman R4 release is a real beauty (done from the original masters with no NTSC>PAL conversion so it gets the advantage of the higher res with no conversion artifacts).

.hack//sign is about a group of people who play a very advanced MMORPG that starts to go wrong, and they come together to try and help each other out basically (i'm trying to avoid spoilers).

there is a second series based on it called .hack//twilight which is a shorter series based some time after the first and in a very differnt style (chibi hack is one way i've heard it described).

there are also about 4 PS2 games with OVA's and a card game and comics based on the same continuity

i picked up the first disc before the UK release was announced - it's not a great series (certainly not one i'd double dip on normally*), but as i was going to buy the rest of it i decided i might as well get all 3 of the UK releases :)

*the only other ones i've double dipped on have been
FMP1 as the US version had the box (and i got it cheap), Love Hina summer/christmas specials as i then picked up the OVA box with all 3 OVA disks for less than i would have paid for the last disk, and now Eva as the new ones are a massive imprvement over the original releases
