SOrry yer i was talking about GunGrave.

I've seen HelSing that great show love it need to get my self a copy of it grr i'm told the mange is better and not as confusing and has a story line.

bebop iirc isn't available in a legitimate box set at the moment, unless you get the R4 Aus one (any "cheap" "import" sets will almost certainly be dodgy, especially if they have just 2 or 3 disks;)).

Unfortunately the R1 box that looked great has been out of print for years :( (and goes for silly money on ebay).

Amazon.com did do a six disc bundle fairly cheaply for a while,. but i think they stopped it a while back.

We should be getting the first disc here in about two weeks though, as Bandai have finally got round to releasing it (i think it's only the third or forth release they've done under their Beez lable in the UK - ADV and MVM seem to be releasing a lot of Bandai titles)

You know your Anime :D Do you know any other sites besides otaku because ive seen some nice Ed and Ein teddies and a Bebop Zippo which would be nice to order when ive got some money :D

Edit : UK sites please to save on postage etc.

erm there aren't that many UK sites that I know of, MVM/Anime-on-line are the only other fairly large dediecated anime store i can think of in the UK (they also release anime DVD's here under their MVM label).

There are a few like Forbidden Planet who sell some anime related stuff, but their range is normaly pretty limited :(

If you don't mind ordering from the EU www.archonia.com is pretty good and has a rather large selection and fairly reasonable shipping :)

Thanx for the links both of you :) At the moment im just leeching off my friends who have been into anime for a long time so ive got enough to last me for a while. Im halfway through Samurai Champloo and Gungrave and have got FMA and both GITS series followed by Innocence to watch at my leisure :D Now i need the time to watch them all!

Sorry to drag this thread back to the top, but anybody interested in anime try and watch some Gungrave. Watched the first seven episodes this afternoon. Its really good stuff :)

The first episode threw me a bit, but after that its about a bunch of friends trying to climb through the Millenion Syndicate, A Japanese Mafia. I wont tell any more i dont want to ruin anything. Hope this helps :)

And play the game as well !

Its on Ps2 and you should be able to get it for about £10 new.

Great game, 3rd person shooter !

Reall nice graphics and a great control system.
Pretty much everything is destroyable !

Yasuhiro Nightow (Trigun) created the characters and general stuff and Kosuke Fujishima (Oh my goddess and Sakura wars) did design work.

I really enjoyed the game and have played through it a fair few times now.

Amazing animated cutscenes as well.

Well worth a try ! :D

was in hmv looking at the anime section and nothing realy stood out. so looking for suggestions, i prefer the kind of sci-fi ones rather than the martial arts, swords and knives type.

so far i own, akira, ghost in the shell, blood:the last vampire (that is dreadful), ninja scroll, neon genesis evangelion, death and rebirth and i bought virus today.

i was looking at ghost in the shell: stand alone complex today, how good is this?

Someone might have already suggested this but try

animeplanet.com . go to the recommendations database, select one that you like and it will show simliar ones :)

anidb.net is the best site about imo

Full Moon wo Sagashite is an awesome anime but not sci-fi. Great songs and characters as well as a really nice story.

It's about people getting stuck in an MMORPG, it is insanely dull and very slow.

Some of my favorites

Azumanga Daioh - funny as hell
Saishuuheiki Kanojo (Saikano) - something with a good ending for once
Cowboy Bebop
To Heart (Yes, im that sad :p)
Shinseiki Evangelion (Neon Genesis Evangelion) - ending ruins it, even the alternative endings suck
Noir
Uchuu no Stellvia (Stellvia of the Universe)
Chobits
Love Hina <- prefer this with english dub tbh, which is rare
Serial Experiments Lain
Green Green TV - fan service++

Some people like that though. Would have been a bit better if they didn't avoid doing the battle sequences.

Stupid question time, is "legend of the four kings" based on four brothers who are in fact from somewhere else (another realm) and another party wants to get their hands on one of them in this life. Sorry long time ago I saw it (maybe, ch4 for those who remember) and I was half asleep at the time.

And although it has been mentioned before "Noir" because while it is slow it does have a good plot and very good music.

yeah thats the one, if you serch for "legend of the dragon kings" then you should be able to get your hands on a US dvd box set. Thats the one i have, i haven't heard any news of a uk releaqse on dvd, but there is a vhs version. I find the uk version has better dubbing and dialouge, shame iit isn't on dvd.

Dubbing, that is a sinful word in my opinion, but that aside, thank you, I have been unsure about that for a while and being myself I do not wish to invest in a series that is not what I think it is. Now all I have to do is find the rest of the series that I am looking for.

Why ch4 put it on at 2 in the morning I will never know, all I got was stick for having my tv on or a missed episode because I dozed off in the middle.

p.s. does anybody know if there is going to be a full metal panic box set or equivalent like the US has.

i would give it about a year for us to get a box of it, as adv-uk have started doing a couple of box sets (hellsing, eva, dirty pair flash).

The US afaik haven't got a full box set yet, and just had a disc 1 + box (which was pretty cheap).

P.S.
dubs aren't all bad, they've improved massively over the past 5-10 years :)

True but its not to do with the voice actors than anything else, firstly being mostly american and the accents annoy me somewhat chronic and there seems to be a lack of enthusiasm with the majority of them.

Yeah it is pretty confusing. This is a good excuse for me ot watch through it again :D

Out of interest where do you buy your dvds from?? i wouldnt mind the cowboy bebop box set.

I import through Amazon.com as its pretty reliable and has a wide variaty of stock for anime. Rightstuf and DVDpasific come recommended as well but i've never used to 2 later.

On Cowboy Bebop good luck the box set was a limited edition thing :( or at least thats what i was told.

P.S sorry for long delay had college last nite.

Dubs have there advantages, like for people new to the anime scene, or if your using it as background wise your working.
Dubs have goten better in the last few years certainly, VA have got more expirence. Buds also make it easyer to watch and understand better generally than having to read sub titles.

as you said you don't tend to like the more martial arts mangas, which I personally go for.

I would recommend Cyber City oedo 808, of the cyberpunk collection (not sure if they do them on DVD), for you

My favs are

The professional
Fist of the north star
Dominon Tank Police
Project Ako and all the off shoots (especially the one with b ko's father in it helerious)
Vampire hunter D
The legend of the overfiend
Doomed megalopalis
Ninja Scroll
Akira

Not got any of them again, suppose i'll have to buy them all.

anyone seen the fist of the north star the series? whats it like
