Really loving the demo up to now but i've reached the point where I need stone and iron ore.

Where can these be placed? I see no symbols on my island and placing the stonemason's hut near a mountain doesn't seem to work!!

I set up a continuous play game and I noticed that there was some areas of my island that has some markings above certain caves, some was for bear fur, some for iron/stone. Note the little icon above the mine entrance, looks like a cart with stuff in it.

I'm abit stuck.

I have to do this quest about sending 1 nuns to a market building? Yet I cant see any nuns and dont know how to send them?

Also I need to send some hemp to the orient, but I cant seem to get it stored in my market buildings? Does not seem to be filling up?

Any ideas?

Bit of a noob question, but how do I get spices. I need it to upgrade my citizens to Patricians and I have colonized a 2nd island where I can grow spices, but I have no clue how.

Cant see how/where to build a spices plant at all.

This is seriously hard for the first time, but there's a woman (or more?) walking around with a faint blue outline around them. They are dressed in black. They could be walking anywhere around your town/city, but find one and click on her and it automatically will complete the quest, or that's what it did for me at least. See the screenshot below for the example of what a nun looks like with the blue outline.

Also if you rest your cursor over the quest icon on the left hand side notification tool bar it will show you roughly on the mini map where to look.

Thanks I found it.

I'm loosing loads of money though :(, stuff like houses is on -500. How do I get trading agreements and stuff? I need to be making money.

There's a couple of ways I've found to set up trading:

1. If you have another player visiting your warehouse, you can set your warehouse to automatically sell and buy goods. To do this, select your warehouse and on the popup in the bottom-right corner there are 3 tabs on the side. Select "Trading place" and you can add an item to sell and in what quantities at maximum (just make sure to adjust the quantity so you aren't trading 0 tonnes or 40 tonnes).

2. If you own a ship, you can set up a trading route with your ship and a warehouse that you own. To do this, look at the bottom right corner of the screen with nothing selected. There are a bunch of buttons in a horizontal line. The 4th button that looks like a star is called "Routing". Click that an it'll open up a window. Firstly, create a new trading route using the "Create new route" button. Then select the warehouse and items that you want to sell from that warehouse. Then, select a desination warehouse where you want the ship to travel to and start selling. Then finally select the ship you want to carry out that route, then you're all done and it'll just start trading automatically.

Did you set it to unload at the other port? (click the - icon)

It ended up saying the route was inefficient.

With income I was down to -150 and down to about 10,000 cash and around 650 houses, I was making tools, hemp, cider, rope, mining stone and all that just I could not figure out how to get my income back to +.

Certainly could not afford to put stone down on all my paths too!!

If you're overproduced an item it might be more beneficial to halt production on some plants to increase cash rather than trying to sell the excess produce.

[EDIT]: You could also try increasing the tax rate of your houses.

I've just started up my first real continuous campaign. Ahh! I feel so good, managing my little island, building cider farms (obviously the most important! :P)... How many here hold back Ascension rights?

Anyone know how to settle on a second island? I'm trying to expand, namely to get resources from another island that my island doesn't produce but I can't for the life of me figure out how to open up a second island. I've tried putting a warehouse down on the water front, but it says that "You can only have one warehouse per island", the island isn't populated at all. Tried dropping a marketplace first also but it just says that it's not in my construction area.

Any ideas?

From my limited experience, I figured that you first have to load a ship with the goods needed to build a warehouse, take the ship to the shore this island and then click on the tab in the lower-right corner of the screen. It's the ship UI, I think...

Just build a bunch of new houses (on a new island if you have to). Even a bunch of (happy) peasants or nomads will raise your income quite a bit. Keep shipping your excess goods to northbro or the sultan guy if you need money in the meantime. I wouldn't set up trade routes for this, though, as they are too hard to balance (could really use some extra options like "unload from island until it has x amount remaining"). Save trade routes for transporting between your own islands, and use your flagship for the odd jobs. Also putting goods into the auto trade slot in warehouses helps a lot. I am usually quite liberal with this as the AI never seems to buy more than 11 ish of any one thing at any time and pays hansomely.

Also make sure that your plants are all running at high efficiency. When you are creating production lines start by building the last building in the chain (i.e. the weavers hut in linen production), then keep adding more hemp farms until the productivity reaches 100. Also if you build them next to eachother the hemp will go directly to the weavers hut and not to the warehouse first. I wouldn't bother with stone paths until you have a huge excess of money and stone, cos if u think about it the time taken for a plant to generate 5 of something dwarfs the time for the cart guy to arrive from the warehouse (if u build stuff relatively close) so it doesn't help all that much. It's better to just upgrade the warehouse itself to get more carts.

Last thign I can think of.. don't always leave ascension rights on auto. Sometimes it's clear that while your civilians are euphoric, patricians won't be, and happy civilians generate more income than sad patricians. If you leave it on auto and they all ascend at once your economy could take a huge nosedive, so it's sometimes better to ascend them manually one by one so you can better monitor the needs of the new people.
