And an overview of a city...

Welcome to the forums.

How long did that take you, to effectively conquer the whole map ? Many hours of anno 1404 there .

Im still stuck on mission 4,when I try and build a tannery on a river its stays red and which island has a brine deposit to produce salt?

Provided that you have all the raw stuff to build the tannery you will find that you are only allowed to build one at certain points over the river - you will get an arrow pointing to the place when you hover close to it with your tannery. I wanted to place mine in a different position and wasn't able to.

So I've hit the same brick wall again; by the time I'm ready to introduce my first patrician, I'm losing money at a rate of around -160 gold coins. I'm not willing to expand my town any further right now as it'll only mean that I will be forced to increase production and (thus?) costs also. I have a single trade route going around several islands, bringing in another 1,000 coins. All of my hemp, linen and rope is being produced on a nearby island and is then being shifted to my main island by a small carrier. I have spices and milk being shipped from my local Orient and excess goods on for sale at my port.

Question: How do I get back in the green? Do you rely solely on trade or is it possible to make the money internally?

I'm not going to upgrade any citizens yet on the grounds that I always struggle to find the goods that they want.

I take it that you have increased the tax rate on the households?

That will increase your revenue and also stop new people moving to your village if set high enough.

Yes. I always ensure that my houses are full and then drop the tax onto the yellow band, where no-one leaves and no-one moves in.

Pretty much.

Getting bored of joeying about for all these people tbh :p

Continuous game time me thinks!

Also, I have a problem. When I try to create an online profile, it logs in successfully but then fails to upload the profile and usually even crashes to desktop (except without any dialogue saying that its crashed). Any solutions? My router's UPNP is on.

i've found that you need to be careful when and who to upgrade, the low rate citizens give you less cash than maxed out partricians, so restrict their ascension until you can produce enough to get them to the next stage of development - works the same for all levels. you can ascend just enough to unlock the buildings and not fufil their needs totally, which gives you enough time in positive cash numbers to get the supply chain up and running.

rope always sells well, you can manually trade it with the ai rather than wait for them to trade it (always in small quantities), glass and meat is also a good earner. the only trade routes i have are from my own colonies, providing spice, indigo, leather stuff, beer, herbs, salt etc, i rarely trade anything automatically as i can make enough cash through careful upgrading.

I agree with these flibby:
* Having to chain market buildings so you can build on the other side of the island is annoying, they may as well just let you drop a market building anywhere on an island that has a harbour controlled by you.

* You should be able to place "ghost" buildings which cost nothing and are 80% transparent which serve purely as a placeholder so you know the proportions of some buildings and can design areas. Would be especially handy for farms.

* I wish the game had a far more in depth analysis and breakdown of the production figures for all your islands and populations.

the city planner would be really useful, especially for influence circles for chapels, market squares and the like. there is always one stupid blind spot for the chapel which ruins my nice layout :(

i'd also like more detail on the supply and demand of resources (only a graph or something to show if demand is matching supply for example), and a breakdown on the ratio of peasants > citizens > patricians > noblemen, how many of each allows next level to ascend.

good game though :D

can anyone tell me if the Annopedia that was called up with F1 from Anno 1701 has been discontinued in Anno 1404?
I can't seem to find it anywhere, and I haven't found any mention of it in the docs.
F1 in 1404 calls the postcard view now.

Isn't in, unfortunately... guess they discontinued it.

I'm in abit of a dilemma.

At first I've being doing allot of fast forwarding in game so I don't have to wait ages, and the other players have advanced faster than me, now I need to get indigo and other things of which I cant because they are on other players islands, I don't have to have to keep buying it off them but I need it all to advance the nomads further, but I cant cause all the other islands are took up.

Would the best way to be to concentrate on my civilians and get em up to patricians and build an army up to take down some of the other people in the game then concentrate on nomads?
