Anova Precision Cooker - cook sous vide with your iPhone.

I really quite want one if these, although I do wonder how much I would use it.
It would be great for a huge thick bone in steak, where it's impossible to cook evenly, then just sear on a silly hot BBQ, got to get that.

Just realised you'll be able to melt chocolate in it, without losing the temper.
Anyone tried? It's something like above 92f it loses the temper (you would need to check the temp if you try.

That would make life very easy, tempering chocolate is a night mare.

I think uv did this recently. I've been meaning to try it for a while myself.

From what I've read it makes things ridiculously easy.

Is yours a red one or were you just further down the list? I originally wanted the red but in October they said that it would be delayed until January, and then all their orders were delayed anyway :(

precision cooker in black, ordered early Dec iirc

arrived today :)

What are you guys using to seal your food?

I had an Andrew James food saver that sparked, smoked and died last night, so had to resort to sandwich bags and water displacement. Was a bit uneasy about leaving normal sandwich bags in warm/hot water for very long through.

I'm using a very cheap sealer - probably an Andrew James actually but I've forgotten.

I did find a recommendation for a non-chamber sealer that allowed you to use the cheaper sealing bags but I can't find it any more sorry. I'll have a more thorough look whilst avoiding work tomorrow.

What steaks are you guys cooking in them? ive only tried fillet so far. Bit unnecessary really but was all i had and wanted to give it a go:D

I'm a bit hesitant to drop another £50-100 on a sealer. They all just seem to be really crap quality.

Guess I'll just try ziplocks for a bit.

Just looking at ordering one of these as my Polyscience one broke and I've given up on getting a refund/replacement out of them after numerous emails.

I noticed there's some on eBay for £180 which appear to work out cheaper than buying direct, is that my best bet? guess someone ordered a load from there. Any other alternatives I might want to consider?
