Anova Precision Cooker - cook sous vide with your iPhone.

I've not compared them myself (I have an Anova) but from what I've heard elsewhere as well as here, the Anova is a better built unit. The Sansaire might have a slightly more powerful heating element though, iirc, which could matter to you if you want to do lots of stuff at once.

That said, the tank I used with my Anova could fit 4-5kg of meat in it if you wanted to and I've never had issues (though I suppose overcrowding it wouldn't be great).

Got a half price 2.5 kg gammon, and stuck just over half of it in at 60C last night. After 20 hours, I put my oven on full, and used half the glaze from this recipe to baste the ham a few times.

omfg. It's delicious, and I've just snacked on ham that would have cost a fortune from a market!

Has anyone tried the beta android app?

I tried the community-created one a long while back and whilst it was rough around the edges it was definitely nice being able to control things remotely and more precisely.

I remembered the iOS app when I saw this thread a few days ago, but I haven't tried it yet. I might have a go cooking a ham using the Anova this weekend. Has anyone done ham in the sous vide?

just 5 posts up :p

I did ~1.3kg (about 2 inches thick) for ~19hrs at 60C, followed by about 12 minutes total in the oven on the very hottest setting to baste.

Just had an email from Anova saying they've partnered up with Serious Eats. Kenji from there will be doing exclusive recipes using the Anova, distributed through the iPhone and Android app. That's rather exciting news!

Where did you get the ham from? I don't know if one of the hams that you get at the supermarket would be ok. Sainsbury's do a sweetcure joint for about £7 - £9 so I am thinking of trying one of these.

That's pretty cool news. It will be interesting to see if the recipes are any good (I normally like Kenji's work but I've not seen that much on sous vide from him).

Anyone still using there? Considering getting on of the WiFi ones. What is the deal with warranty for uk models?

I don't have the Anova, I have the Sansaire - but I still use mine weekly (had it 18 months). Recently discovered that it's perfect to cook meat from frozen with.

So I was just about to bite the bullet and get the Anova WiFi due to the $25 offer from Anova culinary but they've sold out between yesterday and today.

Anybody know of any UK stockists or US stockists that sell the UK model?

A link appeared in my Twitter timeline this morning so I went ahead and ordered one. I've been using a slow cooker with an external controller. This works OK but doesn't circulate and I'm not completely satisfied. It's also quite restricted regarding size. Hopefully the Anova will work out a better solution.

£129.95 for the WiFi model.
