Antec Core HS / Ayaneo Slide Handheld PC Console (Questions & Support thread)

... and in reading this back I realised that the driver that came pre-installed is before they added AFMF :O on my desktop that's taken ARK:SA from frustrating to very playable at good seetings, I should get on with that ASAP!
@Purgatory - is it the normal ADM drivers, or anything I need to be aware of when updating?!

Just update the drivers inside AMD Adrenalin graphics/control panel, click update and it will do the rest. Make sure to run all them windows updates too, then read what I said on the main/first post and a few posts down too with more info.

Once I get some time I will work on this thread and the main post to tidy it up more and add more info there too, but for now more than enough to get people threw the main questions and issues they need help with, anything else not on there just ask here and I or others will reply. :)

Nope they use :- https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/laptop/ryzen/7000-series/amd-ryzen-7-7840u.html

Also the AMD Adrenalin graphics/control panel if not present for any reason use Microsoft store to get it.

Keep it simple for now and just use the update in the current AMD drivers installed and it will do everything you need with the most current drivers for the device. More you fiddle more headaches.. remember different from a desktop so may use very different drivers from what you are use to, but they come direct from AMD with these and not the OEM of the device like with the Z1/Extreme devices (Ally/Legion Go) ... so they wait for ages for driver updates..

Sure did, safely delivered by DPD. :)

Haven't had much of a play with it yet, save installing FH5 on it.

Will have a re-read of your posts tomorrow to see what to do next! :p

Was just checking because I see they are now only 9 Black and 10 White out of the 70 units. So by Monday-Tuesday I'm guessing all will be gone  , they never last every time they went in stock. So making sure they sent you yours and it's with you... or you know suddenly an email saying out of stock and do you want a refund ..

Hope you enjoy it :).

@Purgatory - is there a specific way around that I need to use the charging cable? (afaik USB-C isn't all wired the same way for power!) It's only managing to charge at around 13W+ (I know that's minus the power usage!) but the base unit is rated for 65.

Also is there any issue with running a longer (/cheaper, from the usual place) cable? the provided one barely reaches the arm of my sofa and when playing earlier it seemed fine for power while plugged in. (Mafia Definiteive edition runs pretty great!)

...additional questions... the AMD overlay comes up sideways.. is this cos the screen is technically portrait (like the legion)? I locked the rotation but it's still coming up sideways - also had no luck enabling RSR/ AFMF, so killing performance a bit but not sure if it's game specific

Should charge either way the USB-C (top port or bottom one), I know some devices you need to sometimes flip the cable. Not noticed that but will check that.

The 13W charging maybe because you have some settings changed regarding the charging and pass through power in AyaSpace, there is a settings there for that also the battery has its own logic on how fast to charge depending on the temperature of the system, so maybe its also doing that and it also has some other logic to keep the battery health good depending how far in the charge cycle it is. So don't worry about that when not used and charging it will charge super fast unless it thinks it is getting hot or near the end of the charge cycle.

Just use any USB-C cable rated for 65W + power charging and should work I have a 100W rated long cable here and works fine. That's why I love the charger they supplied you can change the cable to any you like as it is USB-C, the Legion Go, Ally, MSI Claw are all hard wired to the charger grrr so mains power extensions needed.

AMD overlay needs a fix that is coming for portrait devices, buy can be fixed now too with some modding to the files in the driver as can be seen here in the video. Need to find that info on how to do that again, I did do it when I got the device but since then reinstalled it as going to use it for PC games only and use my second new one (white one) for LINUX/Steam OS stuff. Will try find that for you. Thanks for reminding me of that too as I need to do that for the Legion Go as that is portrait too.

Video here shows what I mean with the overlay fix and AFMF etc.

EDIT: I also read this from AyaNeo replying on Reddit :-

the service life of the battery is related to the number of charges and discharges also the saturation level of the battery. In order to avoid frequent charge and discharge and prevent the battery from being saturated for a long time, when the battery power is above 95%, it will not be charged when the plug in, to protect the battery.

Received mine this morning, just finished updating everything. I’ve taken an image of the nvme as backup, I take it I can fresh install windows on the device?

Yes you can reinstall from fresh but I would advice not to as you will lose you factory restore partition if anything goes wrong, I see you cloned the device and hopefully it cloned the factory partition too. If you read the link here it explains about the factory restore partition and how to use it:-

Also the first post I created to start this thread states where to get drivers if you need them or to do a fresh install too or you lost your factory restore partition for any reason or using a new ssd that you didn't clone to first or SSD failure etc.

Hope you are enjoying it, do read what I have stated on this thread first as it answers most of the questions and any not answered shoot them my/our way to help you out with.

What’s everyone’s charge rate show when using the supplied cable/power plug? The OSD only says 13w charge rate in any of the usb ports/dock ports

Also, is there any gains from enabling re-size bar in the bios? It’s under advanced/pci subsystem settings

Explained here regarding the charge rate :- https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...estions-support-thread.18991990/post-37372399

Not enabled rebar yet, but see no issues enabling it as some games will make use of it and some won't same as on a desktop. Was something I was going to test and add to the main post how to enable too, just need time as a lot on at the moment to add all the things I want to add to the main thread.

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help me.

Got the antec core hs a month ago and loved it. Everything worked great and was smooth.

However, I just recently upgrade the ayaneo software to AYA6108 6.0 inch on my antec core hs, but it seems like a downgrade so far?

Firstly, the color wheel for the rgb colors disappeared. It only gives 5 preset colors now, and the actual colors displayed by the led strips don't even match the colors on screen (purple looks more blueish), whereas I was able to select an actual purple color via the color wheel before the update, and there was the option to use the color hash code too before.

Secondly, it looks like they remapped the shoulder buttons when used not in game? Before the left and right triggers functioned as backwards and forward hot keys, but now they swapped those functions to the left and right bumpers? And the triggers act as mouse accelerate and deceleration? Why can't they just let us remap those buttons to whatver we like?

Thirdly, the scroll wheel is really jerkyand laggy now. Before using the right joystick to scroll was really smooth, but now there's a day before it starts scrolling when I use the joy stick, a d the scrolling motion is very jerk.

Not happy with these changes. Is it possible to downgrade the software because this update is hot garbage imo.

Not sure where you are getting that AyaSpace version, but guessing you are not doing it the right way.

The right way is here and the latest version stable is 2.5.0.12:-

Did you update Ayaspace to version 2.5.0.12 ? The way to check the version is to hold down Ayaspace button get to the main Ayaspace page and click the top left hamburger button, which will show a left side menu with power off at bottom and just above that is the version number you have installed.

Also in AyaSpace you can pick to update to stable version or the Beta version.

Also the Antec Core HS and The AyaNeo slide has never had the option you mention regarding the RGB wheel option just a choice of the colours it lists, so not sure if you were watching videos of other Ayaneo devices that allow that or installed some other tool that allows that, but AyaSpace on the Antec Core HS and AyaNeo Slide never had that option that I have seen on the devices or videos related to the devices. The Beta and older versions may have this option so maybe worth trying the current Beta Version (AYASpace 2.0 Beta Version v2.2.0.58 from here https://www.ayaneo.com/support/download then Click AyaSpace and you will see 2 versions a Beta and Stable, use the same install guide I give below for the Beta Version too) as that has more things but also not classed as stable so I don't recommend it, but up to you to test. Maybe why I have never seen a colour wheel option on my device with the two stable versions I had on my device, the one out of the box then the update to version 2.5.0.12. Also YouTube review videos may have also been using the latest stable version that doesn't show these options you mention.

Regarding your control issues I am not sure what you have done too as not seeing any of these issues you mention, I see you have also added this to the Antec Discord chat but will reply here and there I will point you to this comment too.

You can download AyaSpace from AyaNeo on their download page and click AyaSpace to re-download the stable or Beta version.

A word of advice is make sure after uninstalling it to delete these folders it leaves behind I mention below as these store the user/program presets you set before and may still give you the same issue after reinstalling.

1. Download AyaSpace from there https://www.ayaneo.com/support/download and click AyaSpace and use 2.5 version 2.5.0.12 download to your Windows desktop to make it easy to install again by clicking the screen as the mouse will be disabled when you uninstall AyaSpace.

2. Uninstall AyaSpace on your device, remember you will lose mouse function after that.

3. Now make sure to delete the AyaSpace folder(s) left behind after uninstall in :-

C:\windows\ program files (86)

and

C:\Users\YOUR ACCOUNT NAME ON THE DEVICE\AppData\Roaming

4. Reinstall AyaSpace from your desktop.

5. Restart your device.

6. All done and should work correctly in the default state it comes in and any remapping/settings changes you want to make can be done as needed.

Does anyone else’s console make a ticking noise with the fan at lower rpm? It’s not a constant tick, more like a reving tick?

Did you fiddle with the fan curve in AyaSpace and maybe set it too low for the fan to spin right ? Not noticed any ticking noises here on both my devices. But again I have not fiddled with the fan curve, I just have left it to the auto. Stick a video up showing the problem on YouTube and what fan setting curve you have it on.

The fan is actually easy to clean on this device too, the back cover unclips and you get right to the fan for cleaning if anything maybe in there or dirt build up over time and no need to unscrew the rest apart.

Just don't rip off the triggers tops as he did in this video as not needed and better to follow the second video from AyaNeo :-

Also another one here from AyaNeo and a better one to watch I think :-

Select the :- AYANEO SLIDE Disassembly & Assembly Tutorial

This is done at your own risk of course and make sure to have the right tools first, but easy enough to do if you are a little handy with opening up devices. There is another video AyaNeo did too on YouTube but it's all in Chinese and was really more about the Slide introduction and they showed a very rushed tear-down there that was not so great to watch.

Also removing the back cover only the clipped on one doesn't effect the warranty Antec said, but removing the screws and getting to the other parts does void the warranty. So be aware if you cause damage while doing that.

Also just some information added here regarding the joysticks used are the Nintendo Switch type and replacement sticks here for the Hall Effect Sensor type that come with the device :- https://www.gulikit.com/productinfo/945307.html

AEYetJ7.jpeg

Or if you would like to try the none Hall Effect sticks (carbon film type) these are compatible :- https://www.gulikit.com/productinfo/526505.html

If you want different joystick tops or lose the ones on your device the Nintendo Switch ones are the same and also these here will work and come in many colours too :- https://www.gulikit.com/productinfo/1014520.html

Just adding this here for now and will move to the main post when I get around to it, to remind me to add it , but here for any that want to bling up their device sticks or need parts for the sticks if they lose them.

I didn’t change any fan curve, but I have reset everything and it appears to have stopped, so seems to be something software related rather than anything caught in the fans.

I spotted your post on discord regarding the battery charging so just trying to run through those steps as I’ve had the core shutdown on 20% plus battery and wouldn’t start until plugged in. Interestingly, do these have a cmos battery? Because when I’ve had the core shutoff due to no power, the bios has reset. I even ran the battery depletion last night, and then fully charged throughout the night while off, when I turned on the core this morning it took a bit of time for the screen to react, got into bios and the ram settings have reset again.
No CMOS battery, just the rechargeable battery acts as the CMOS battery too, so when it dies completely the BIOS will go back to defaults if it ends up that low.

The battery needs recalibrating it seems, just follow this regarding laptops :- https://www.ifixit.com/Wiki/Battery_Calibration

Appears to be 6 left in stock in each colour, if anyone is still looking at one.
I have to say I was worried it would sell out quicker and kinda just fomo'd it, but so far I'm really enjoying it and it it will hopefully help me get through some of the backlog of games I've built up, as it's so 'pick up and play', even compared to sofa gaming with a pad

Yes I'm also enjoying it more than sat on the sofa using the console and can now at least watch something on TV while having a little game at same time, without the TV being hogged for gaming a lot of the time.

Yeah was watching a YT vid earlier in the background while I finished off Mafia, where usually I'd have to change the default monitor and sound and give it my full attention, which just doesn't happen!

I wanted to ask you actually, as you have both colours - What colur dock did you get (with each)?
I got the 'almond grey' one with a black unit, which I would have thought would go better with white, I assume they only came in one colour but saw an unboxing yesterday where he had a dark grey/black one (won't bother me too much as I'll only use it occasionally, if ever lol)

I got the Black dock with my Black one (second drop) and the Grey one as they class it with the White one on this last drop, I did see they have run out of the docks everywhere apart from what they managed to get together in these last 70 bundles that were put together for us by Antec Lee ( @Ace Modder ) and noticed the black versions this time came with the grey docks too.

You can see they are out of stock everywhere even Antec and AyaNeo that makes them in Black and a few left in Grey with AyaNeo.

If you really want a Black one there is one used one (EXDISPLAY) here on Ebay £70 or £56 with the coupon code ( SEPTSAVE20 ) available at the moment .. Only Black one anywhere ..

Thanks, was mostly just curious whether it was by design to include the contrasting version :D
As I said I'll barely use it (probably just when I stay at my parent's to look after their dog) so won't be changing it (unless I can do it at zero cost :P )

Edit: was also really impressed at the inclusion of 2 USB A-C adapters, really nice touch :)

Yes they made sure to give you everything you need right out of the box, I noticed that too and thought what a great idea as many of us don't have a USB C thumb drive/external storage/keyboards/mice,etc for example and the adapters come in handy and not having to now go order them and wait again to use the device.

I see why people pay AyaNeo a lot for their gear now, nice packaging, everything you need right out of the box and quality build.. Well this is my first time buying their hardware and was so impressed as you guys know I got two of them, rare I ever do that with anything but when I do like something I do buy more than one...

Example of things I have more than one of the same thing keyboard (2 spare) and mice (lol 5 sat spare in a draw), I dislike change when I find something I like. This Antec Core HS fell into that for me as very rare I like something in that way.

I have been playing with Bazzite https://bazzite.gg/ on my white Antec Core HS and it's pretty good so far, some minor issues but if you like a more SteamOS like experience it can be done if you like to tinker with Linux and I'm just dual booting it for now to keep windows too, but may in future just keep a SteamOS Linux OS on permanently on that device and keep the black one just windows 11.

Link above and if you feel like tinkering on yours, but I recommend you make a clone of your device first so to keep the factory recovery partition and your current windows installation if ever needed or to easily restore back to how it was before tinkering.

Other SteamOS like OS's mentioned here too, that will probably work a bit better on this device, but still testing and trying to get my brain back to Linux mode again.

EDIT:-

Just a little warning about installing Bazzite, it sometimes randomly reboots or just locks up, seems not 100% compatible yet but does it randomly, sometimes could be hours of use other times a few minutes, so if you are easily frustrated and don't know how to use linux and figure out issues maybe avoid for now and I'm going to send them some feedback and hopefully they put fixes in too.

Hello everyone.
A piece of info: but is it just me if I set the memory speed to 7500mhz or 7000mhz the handheld (16gb/hd 512gb) restarts? Does it happen to anyone else?
Both with windows and with bazzite os.
If I leave the memory at 6400 everything works wonderfully.

Setting it to 7500 doesn't guarantee it will work just by setting that and also best to save and reset option when saving that in the saving options in the BIOS as that will make the device retrain memory for that speed but again doesn't mean it will work unless you manually adjust memory timings too.

It does warn you of this when going into these settings and not all devices will just work by setting that option only. So if you don't know how to adjust memory timings to make it stable at 7500 or even 7000 best to leave it at 6400 if it causes obvious issues.

Sorry if this is a silly question but, seeing people mention they've made images of the NVME drive before doing anything with their unit, how exactly is this done?

I used CloneZilla. To clone my device to make sure if in the future I need to replace the SSD I could clone it all back with the factory partition too that has a recovery factory backup on it too.

Explained here regarding the factory recovery partition :- https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...estions-support-thread.18991990/post-37344975

Cheers, as much as I know imaging is a thing I've never actually sone it on any of my machines before.

I'm having an absolute nightmare so far. I bought the black 32gb/2TB model on ****** back on 29/9, it arrived in a few days, I set it up and had fun playing Lego Star Wars on it, only niggle was they included the white/grey dock with the black console. No biggie, I can live with that. I then noticed overnight on the 6th or 7th of this month that sound was only coming from one speaker, tested & confirmed it was a hardware issue. Called ****** on Wednesday the 9th and to their credit they arranged an immediate RMA and replacement. DPD courier should've picked it up Thursday but was being an arse about my address, ****** rearranged the collection for yesterday which happened and immediately sent replacement which arrived today. Here's where things become more of a huge problem...
I was told for the RMA process to package up everything including accessories as they'd send a full replacement package, so I reboxed the console, power brick, leads, dock, thumbcaps, case ... EVERYTHING. What they've sent as replacement was just the console package with power brick and lead. On top of that, when I booted the console up the touchscreen doesn't respong to touch and there seems to be damage in the form of a light patch on the left side of the screen. I can't call them up to sort this as they're closed on a weekend so will have to wait till Monday to sort this all out again!!

I know none of you can help or do anything about this, I just wanted a rant and to get it off my chest because honestly this is such a cool little machine and I just wanna enjoy the thing, but I'm getting worried there's QC issues with the hardware on Antec's side as a whole. Anyway, rant over, I'll let y'all know what happens after Monday

EDIT: didn't realise the retailer name would be censored, just wanna say I'm not tryna cause them any trouble etc

Yes these devices seem to suffer from a few issues I have noticed too, I had two and have one now as I sold one to a work mate that has one too and both of mine suffer from not charging to 100% and same with his he purchased originally too and mine later for his daughter knowing this issue with the battery as he suffers with it too.

Currently waiting on Antec to get back to me if they can supply replacement batteries and batteries in the future too, if not I will be returning the one I have remaining too for a refund.

Other people that have purchased these seem to suffer with the battery issue I am seeing too and have either returned them for a refund or returned them for an exchange, but seems these all have some sort of issue out of the box and I will explain more later as it involves BIOS,EC firmware and controller updates to make the Bypass and limiting charging work too.

Not a happy camper at the moment with this device all because of a battery.

The battery shows the issue out of the box where it will refuse to show 100% (both mine would state 99% full charge out of the box and stop charging but would die at anywhere from 20-30%) charge in windows or linux and then doing a complete battery discharge and draining the battery in some windows application or game then it will either shut down before 0% battery sometimes even between 20-30% so called charge left and will be totally dead, if it starts up again best to then go into the BIOS and let it completely die in there and then wait till it cools down and do a full charge again and see where it ends up in windows and what percentage it stops at charging, mine stops at 82% and refuses to charge more and can be seen in Ayaspace showing 0W being sent to the battery when it stops charging. No limiting is set or anything it just refuses to charge past 82% this device the previous device would stop at 75% and my work mates stops at 77-78% and refuses to charge more.

So heads up on the battery too.

The draining process and fully charging after is basically calibrating the battery and this will show any issues with it too, as it will then die correctly at 0% but never charge to 100% and will depend on the status of your battery how far it will fully charge to and stop and at what percentage it shows at the time.

@ciggybumly that purchased one has returned it for a refund too, as his had a ticking fan issue and the battery charge issue mentioned above.

More information can be read in the Handheld channel under the general list on this discord https://discord.gg/4YHhAavz .

Yeah, I jumped in the Discord server last night shortly after my last response on here. The number of people discussing the various issues they've had, combined with people saying Antec have already discontinued the device really had me wondering whether I should just cut and run. I think I'm gonna go for one more exchange (will be my 3rd unit) and hope for the best, but if that one has issues too I'll just send it back and keep my money, such a shame.
Ask @Ace Modder he is also Antec_Lee on the discord and Antec staff. Regarding why the device maybe going EOL.. I have no idea mate. I just want them to reply if they can provide batteries now and if they can't I'm sending it back for a refund as I have wasted enough time now on this device. Not very happy about the situation and a simple question of can they get replacement batteries is just delaying the return and refund process with that retailer it was purchased from.

I saw the message you linked on the Discord, seems like there maybe not dropping the device entirely, just stopping the 32Gb/2TB model and just doing other variants. Whether Ace/Lee will be able to confirm that is another matter, companies don't like staff leaking stuff, gotta protect the profit margins for the shareholders after all.

I think they are just trying to get rid of the 16GB/512GB ssd versions now. Then maybe a totally new device, I don't know but I think these are just old stocks of Ayaneo Slides repackaged as Antec Core HS and they purchased their remaining stock of unsold Slides. I don't know but something is not sitting right with me as I am seeing so many issues with these devices out of the box now, I had two newly purchased at different times and drops at that retailer and both have a bad battery issue.. and my work mates that purchased them too.. so their is a pattern to this battery issue..

Then other people stated the same and having other hardware issues from fans ticking to other issues and the main one is the battery issue it seems.

As you see sold out of the 32GB versions and only the 16GB ones remain. https://antecplay.com/collections/handheld

I'm not really willing to get a 3rd now and test my luck again.. so if no batteries can be obtained its going back for a refund and calling it a day.

I have started an RMA and refund on my remaining device, picking up on Thursday. I give up now with these battery issues on 2 out of 2 devices and other people that purchased the device showing the same issue and other issues, My work mates also all have the battery issue so its either a bad batch or something is not right with these batteries in these devices.

Wasted too much time on resolving all the issues with them and the hidden issues. Not much more left to do and opening (asked to do this from Antec to pull some serial numbers off the battery) the device even with a soft pry tool damages the seams on them so I advise if you have any issues with the device send it back and don't open it as it will leave marks on it and clearly show it has been opened, I was very careful and used the right tools and got it open easily but as stated it leaves marks.

I will carry on helping people with this device so do ask anything if anything crops up as I'm sure I have come across it and resolved the issue at some point, only issue I had was bad batteries in my devices apart from that the device works really well.
