Antec Core HS / Ayaneo Slide Handheld PC Console (Questions & Support thread)

see now I'm wondering if I should refund the current faulty device rather than replace it with a 3rd, then just wait for a new 8840u device

You've had two faulty units & it's now pretty much confirmed that the device is EOL. The answer seems pretty obvious to me...

Only downside with that, is the 8840U isn't that much of an upgrade.

i suspect, Antec's next handhelds will be something along the same lines as the Ayaneo Kun.
Which is plagued with issues too. One of which is the battery.
(i own 2x Antec Core hs's and love them, one i've had to RMA for hardware failure. However service is top notch!)

Side note for anyone who is doing an RMA.
DO NOT.. Send your accessories.
There's some miscommunication between customer support and The RMA Department.
Customer service will tell you to package up the device and accessories. however, the RMA department will tell you, device ONLY. (if you mention it)

Love my core HS. Cannot be beaten in price/performance.
if Ayaneo come through and supply Antec with batteries. This will spin this bad PR on it's head. Hopefully we get them!

after research last night I've seen the Air 1S, Kun, Flip, and 2S all have 8840u versions, and all seem a lot more expensive and way out of my price range, so I guess if I end up refunding I won't be having one at all. 2nd RMA is tomorrow so fingers crossed the 3rd one isn't also faulty or Antec will lose me permanently.

The Antec CORE HS was a product that we used internal funding on to make an impact on the market with a great low price, the new 8840u model will be higher priced for sure. We fully expect sales volume to be less on the new refreshed models (yes - models!!) but it is a market we plan to continue with, we see the value in the product range and the demand moving forwards is still growing.

A PC handheld is not for everybody, just like not everybody wants to game on a portable Playstation/Switch device, but for those who do we will certainly be here for you ongoing.

That's fair, but sadly my funding is limited. I really hope when I get my 3rd unit from RMA there's no faults as my only other option in the price range is the Steamdeck and due to it being Linux based a huge chunk of my game library either flat out won't run or has limited compatability.

My fingers are crossed for you! Device is fantastic..*When it works*

I have started an RMA and refund on my remaining device, picking up on Thursday. I give up now with these battery issues on 2 out of 2 devices and other people that purchased the device showing the same issue and other issues, My work mates also all have the battery issue so its either a bad batch or something is not right with these batteries in these devices.

Wasted too much time on resolving all the issues with them and the hidden issues. Not much more left to do and opening (asked to do this from Antec to pull some serial numbers off the battery) the device even with a soft pry tool damages the seams on them so I advise if you have any issues with the device send it back and don't open it as it will leave marks on it and clearly show it has been opened, I was very careful and used the right tools and got it open easily but as stated it leaves marks.

I will carry on helping people with this device so do ask anything if anything crops up as I'm sure I have come across it and resolved the issue at some point, only issue I had was bad batteries in my devices apart from that the device works really well.

Having a catch up on this thread as I still hold an interest in PC handhelds even tho I bought a Legion Go over the Hs Core, starting to think I made the right move with the GO. All being said I'm sorry you guys are having trouble with the Core it seemdd like a good deal and a nice unit.

Maybe Antec will build their own handheld and not buy up old stock from Aya or other companys, they cant 100% guarantee quality control otherwise.

Edit, with so many issues being reported I can't help but think these handhelds that Antec got hold of are refurbs as the price they was selling them at was crazy.

The Antec rep said they "used internal funding on to make an impact on the market with a great low price" which I take to mean they've sold them at a loss or essentialy zero profit. It's given them a foothold in the market but their newer devices will be be out of my price range. I just hope these issues don't damage their brand overall because I still love things like their cases.

Not a great impact if theres is these issues, I guess the great low price is one of them too good to be true moments.

I thought you purchased the Antec too as you stated here before the edit..

Anyways you avoided a headache it seems and like you said "I guess the great low price is one of them too good to be true moments."

It was too good to be true, not sure what's going on with this. Something is very off and with the amount of issues I have seen with these devices this is not a "small amount of customers facing these issues" ... It's a ridiculous amount and first-hand experience of it as I have turned into support for these devices for the customers and their staff.

Anyways will be avoiding all Ayaneo products from now and any rebrands of their products, this has cost me a lot of time and money now in lost work hours to chasing up DPD on day of delivery that cost me over £30 in phone calls to them to get them to actually deliver this mess, then now paying to repackage it and return it, so far costing me close to £50 in costs and then not counting all the work time lost and the personal time I have invested in these devices helping everyone ..

Tomorrow they are picking the last device up now and I hope no issues with the refund as I will be fuming if they make some excuse as I have all the proof showing Antec was promising us batteries and well here we are still nothing but a promise and was very unhappy after opening the device as I was asked to do that by Antec to get serial numbers off the device and battery to find it marks the seams when doing that and shows clear signs of opening it up now and if the retailer complains about that I will be taking it up with Antec as I was asked by them to do that.

Anyways we will see in next few days the outcome of this return and if this headache is now finally over.

Worst part now what to replace it with as there is not much else there sensibly priced and specced .. have a Legion Go and has been spotless so far (knock on wood), but want something smaller 6-7" with a 32GB ram and SSD as long as I can replace it don't care on the size, but the RAM is important and sensibly priced for what it is.

How much have you looked into game compatibility on Steam Deck?

Roughly 75% of Steam's top 1000 games will work on Deck without too much trouble. For me, it's more like 90% of my Steam library. In my experience, the vast majority of games just work. And Proton is constantly being worked on, so compatibility is ever improving.

The largest problems with game compatibility on Steam Deck now are a) the hardware - quite a few recent releases are simply too demanding to run well, b) some DRM being incompatible with Linux, and c) some online games not working due to incompatibile anti-cheat software implementations.

I have almost 1.2k games on Steam and sadly only just over 50% of them are either fully verified (green) or listed as "playable" (yellow). Not great but obviously better than nothing I guess. Hopefully I won't have to worry about that as my 2nd replacement arrived yesterday and so far everything seems fine, no screen or speaker faults like my previous 2 units, updated bios, EC, and controller, so bypass charge and charge limit is functioning ... fingers crossed I've got a good one this time

Glad everything is going well with your new device!
Hopefully battery is good too! or at least near perfect!
