Any news on 7800 xt?

Says the guy who purportedly benefited to the tune of £275 in price cuts to the 7900XT because others said no to paying msrp.
Took my opportunity (the reality is about taking opportunities when they come your way, like I did in Ampere) and was fed up waiting and got rewarded for not returning.

Its basically this.

RTX 2000 or whatever the AMD equivalent was? Seriously i don't even know..... then yes these are good options.

This is perhaps why the mixed feelings on them, its a 3080, with 16GB, for £200 off, if you already have one of those then its the 4080 for you, at £1100, that's on you, i mean the 7900XT is only £50 more than the 3080 was, you don't want that because its not Nvidia, that's why the 4080 is £1100.

These are decent cards for not much money.

See my post before yours. There are some that won’t accept the reality and prefer to moan at every opportunity.
Maybe that would hit harder if it wasn't you moaning about someone moaning about another person moaning, i think that's 4 levels deep of moaning.

I mean i get it, some people feel the need to publicly justify their purchase to reassure themselves that they've not been conned but moaning about people who point out that AMD are giving people the exact same GPU performance 3 years later for $150 less is obviously going to provoke a response.

So you completily missed the point i was trying to make all night. Now i see i shouldn't have bothered.

But the person you are criticising got a 7900XT which is 40% better than the 6800XT and 15% better than the 6950XT for £750 from OCUK a little over £90 more than the total cost of the 3080 FE last gen. That’s a good deal imo- struggling to understand your point? Did he not get a good deal?- I would say he did.

I wasn't being critical, in fact i even said that i get it. And i didn't say anything about a "good deal".

One last time as easy as i can put it to you. The 7800xt is not a 6800xt replacement that's the 7900xt which is coming for me today. The 7800xt is a mid range chip replacing the 6700xt at virtually the same price with inflation added to RRP's. This ain't hard to understand and its an 800xt in name only. that's been my whole point so if you get it and we misunderstood each other then lets move on.

Before all this tier and pricing nonsense, I was planning to get whatever the 6800 XT, or 3080 replacement was. Up to £650 and £700 at a pinch was my hopes at this tier. Nvidia quickly demonstrated their utter contempt and greed by releasing the 4080 at $1200 MSRP. My hopes were all on AMD coming through, but instead they decided the 6800 XT replacement was now called the 7900 XT and bumped the price from $600 MSRP to $900 MSRP. Given the price to performance of the 4080 and 7900 XT(X) I gave up any delusions that a decent 6800 XT/3080 replacement would be released at a decent price.

A colleague offered me his 4080 for £900 and even though the price was still poor IMHO, I bought it. I now wish I hadn't to be frank because while it is a decent GPU it really isn't even a £900 GPU. I got a 7900 XT for £699 with Starfield Premium (so £635 to me) and this was right in line with the price to performance I was hoping for. It certainly puts the barely better 4080 to shame, even at £900 used price.

The problem is if it takes used prices, or a decent game bundle and a special offer from OCUK to get a "good deal", then PC gaming is doomed.

I think PC gaming is doomed and my plan is to probably not buy an even more inflated card in 4-5 years time and instead keep the PC as a workstation and use a PS6/Xbox Series Y for gaming.

as i think we both said our piece and no need to go on.
No one i saying they're not, people are saying that both companies are playing silly buggers with naming/prices because names set expectations and they're trying to trick people into believing that 40xx and 7xxx are successors to 30xx and 6xxx.

There are some delusions going round in these forums that “tomorrow will be a better day” and “Nvidia and AMD will cut prices” and come “crawling back to gamers.”

That narrative is what’s keeping those folks going and anything to challenge that is brought down with some accusations of single handedly denying “gamers” of cards if any had taken part in mining.

That is lala land and sooner those realise it the better OR they call it a day and leave PC gaming for consoles when their current cards clap out/can’t play AAA games.
Forums are forums so you'll always get it, some moan for the sake of it, but some are constructive and genuine, for me I don't want to write an essay. Simply all I have to say is Kaapstad..... that should explain it all.

Simply being 38 years old and being around since my commodore 64, amiga 600, first **** pc IDT Winchip c6, refunded for a K6II 500,
I've been there from the start, when paying the price for pc hardware really felt exciting and rewarding. I've seen the price fixing and the failed arch's from both sides over the years.

The difference now is people have had their bank accounts rinsed with the cost of living, with no end in sight, everything has gone up. That disposable income is more restricted for most,
In a market that loses out to mobile phone and handheld gaming, consoles, and streaming services, for the Pc to survive it cannot justify the old pricing tiers, and so you either pay into it or you don't.

Yea i know i am just stating the reality of why on here they ain't fooling anybody that follows graphics cards as it's been obvious since release of the 7900's. That's why some of those on here are playing games like it's some kind of shock and outrage.

The market seems to be returning to where it used to be, more niche and expensive. Tbh the community was better then, once you have the masses accessing something it goes right down the pan
