Do Nvidia and AMD really want consoles and phones to be the major games development platforms longer term?
Longer term?

They are stock market driven companies and never think long term. One quarter at a time is as long as they think and if the bonus for a good quarter kill the next quarter or a future year? They don't care.

Short-term does what short-term does.

Exactly and the problem is most of this is being driven by the trillions of USD printed in the last two decades.

Well on that only AMD are in both.

PS5, XBox, ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and whole bunch of other handhelds, High end Samsung Phones and Tablets, oh the Tesla, Tesla's now have console level gaming chips in them, Musk is a gamer.

Also... listen to this.

£550 would be sweet 1440p card

@Joxeon what do you think the price should be for the 4070ti and also 7900xt ?
We really are going backwards, aren't we. 1440p is supposed to be a mid-range res by now, not commanding premium prices.

I know someone will be along shortly to say £500-£650 is mid-range pricing these days :p Perhaps even being able to keep a straight face...

Looking forward to the 4050, if the 4060 is for 1080p then will it only be for 720p? :p

Never thought about it, the performance is good, as a card i like it, but can't get past that 192Bit 12GB on such an expensive card, i guess in terms of raw performance its £650, but i would still buy the 7900XT for that because i would want to keep it for a few years and game in 4K as much as i can.

I guess the 4070Ti is just a bit of a flawed product.
For me to consider it, the 4070ti needs to be around £450, its a 12GB card, it wont last me very long at ultra settings @1440p...

Nvidia are just drunk/high and need some really strong coffee to come back down to earth....

Yeah, i want to say the same sort of thing but in performance terms it is better than that.

Which is why i just call it a flawed GPU, in my mind i've run through all sorts of anecdotal ways of describing what i mean by that but they all sound daft... like sticking a Lambo engine in a golf cart, that sounds way too much fun.....

Nah for me £450 seems spot on.

They made a MASSIVE node drop, gaining HUGE performance gains. But those gains where only sold to you in the 4090.

The rest of the gains we should have gotten were erroded away because they shifted the rest of the stack up 2 tiers from where they should be, while also increasing the prices.

This meant one thing and one thing only, everything was a terrible price to performance GPU. Increase or even decrease in price, it was just TERRIBLE value and no improvement in price/performance.

Which leads me to just one conclusion, this generation is garbage and a 100% SKIP. Only thing I can do to send Nvidia my personal message is to say NO THANKS, and vote with my wallet. If more people took this attitude we would have a better GPU market, simple as that.

The problem is quite a lot of people have bought them, look at the Steam Hardware Survey. the 40 series is mingling with the 20 and 30 series, the 4080 is already higher ranked than the 2080Ti.

What worries me is Nvidia can't lose, even if they try, for every one of us who are like "i've hand enough of this" 100 others with green tinted glasses are screaming, "A NEW NVIDIA, TAKE MY MONEY!!!!"

I was watching something on Youtube a couple of years ago, that Youtuber was just wondering round a vast queue for some new iPhone asking people what they like most about the new iPhone, or what new features they are looking forward to.
Every single one gave him a confused blank look before saying "its the new iPhone" to every single question.

Yep, people that cannot control their spending urges, even when it literally gains them nothing, inflates the market for everyone else, including themselves. The thing is, 95% people in that position do not even have much disposable income to begin with, they live month to month paying their bills and saving nothing. The vast majority in the UK do not even have one single months earnings as savings.

They buy these over priced goods to have some sort of "self worth" or keep up with their friends not to appear "in poverty" when they actually indeed are in poverty.

The vast majority of the people pushing prices up are not wealthy at all, its all credit/debt based, impulse purchases, "I must have the new shiny" etc etc.

Most millionaires I know personally, drive no more than £30k cars, do not buy new cars either, and live a frugal life, this on top of working their ass off and making LOTS of money.

When you don't have much money/have a good career earning you good money, you lack the value and perspective it took to gain that wealth, so you do not respect the effort it took to get that money and its value is diminished in your eyes. This is why so many with low incomes, low paying jobs or on benefits, don't bat an eye lid at a 4080 for £1200, because its just going on credit, all they see is "NEW NIVIDIA" ONLY gonna cost me £50 per month, its exactly the same with new Samsung or iPhones, both costing like £1k+, or "LOOK, FREE iPhone with unlimited mins and texts and data!, just £60 per month for 24 months", and they buy into that being brainwashed and having no financial sense, not actually stepping back and thinking, hold on, I am paying £1440 over 24 months.... thats £1k for the phone and £20 per month just for the contract.....

Its much easier for companies and marketing to sell too and manipulate the uneducated/on benefits, those in poverty and no career earning them a good living, those with money are not so easily manipulated as they were savvy to get there in the first place.

Meh, /rant over...
