Any news on 7800 xt?

To be fair it worked, I was after a 7800XT but bought a 6950XT. To be honest I think they might have done me a favour.

I don't blame you for not waiting, years ago when stacks were released more or less together it was worth holding on, now, unless your desiered card in absolutely imminent then you might as well buy what you need, don't buy on their release cycle buy on your own.

I think the Nitro+ kinda level 7800XT is going to be £530+.
Maybe but unless it offers 10% more performance over the base model is it really worth spending an extra 10%, this would be even worse for cards like the 7700XT nitro where the extra cost would get you a MBA 7800XT which is probably going to be 20% faster which more VRAM.

I think sub £500 for the 7800 XT is optimistic. UK pricing is usually a 1:1 conversion from USD and then the 20% VAT on top. I'm expecting the 7800 XT to be up near £600. I'll be pleasantly surprised to be wrong!

Yes given the stagnation we are seeing I reasoned a top end (reduced price) card was a better buy than a midrange one that probably has had corners cut on it.

You may be right. But surely if its near £600, which would end up dearer than some RTX4070's, then it would be a non-starter from the get go. Be lucky to sell one at that price you'd think??

You're right, they're never "worth" the extra money in terms of pure performance, but they're a nicer card, the cooling and noise levels are always top notch, and I tend to think if I'm going to spend a large amount of money on something then i'm going to get on the better models, the Pulse's are good, I'd buy those, but the base level two fan cards don't interest me. No knock on anyone else's choices, just my own preferences.

Currently building a mate of mine a PC for 4K with a £1,200 budget and I'm pushing him to go for a £610 6950 XT instead of waiting for the 7800 XT. If it's about the same performance as the 6800 XT then there's zero reason not to buy a 6950 XT unless the 7800 XT comes in something like 25-30% cheaper.

Yes, I'd get on the reviews quickly and depending on that buy up a 6950XT before they sell out if they turn out to be the better buy.

It's a hard sell from what we think we know 2 days before launch, this card really should have been 6950XT level, as it's really the 6700XT replacement, we all know that. With the 7800Xt you're going to get some better power efficiency, and improved RT but even still...

I agree. I'm just assuming worst case scenario as we usually get shafted in the UK when converting prices from USD. I can't see them being much less than £550 but we'll see!

I was hoping for an upgrade from my 6900 XT as I game at 4K (got a good deal on it at £600 during the crypto boom when 6800 XTs and 3080s were fetching over £1,000) but this gen it's a 7900 XT which doesn't feel like enough of a jump or the XTX. In the case of the XTX it's a 50% bump in price over what I paid for the 6900 XT for 50% more performance.

Nvidia's not really an option - poor pricing coupled with that connector have ruled them out for me and I refuse to reward them for their current business practices to boot.

As of today the 7800XT MSRP at $500 = £396.16.. add 20% VAT = £496.16.

The 7800XT is surely going to be over £500 when you purchase in the UK.

People need to get their heads out of the clouds :p
