Any opinions on o2 broadband?

I remember they asked my housemate for the name of the person that recommended us...he kind of stumbled for words for a few minutes until the person said "ah...let's move on, shall we".

Raised a smile here!

Loki this is a long minute, give me an update man!

Might be worthwhile emailing someone else with the details. I need to get back in contact with BT and been in a que for 30 odd minutes. When they said they cancelled the telephone number transfer from Virgin, they hadn't. As it stands they don't know if we will be getting the number back, how long it will take or if we will have to keep the new number they gave us. I can't keep hanging on at week otherwise I will be getting an arse kicking. I will ring BT as soon as I get home at 4.00 and then can ring O2 with the correct telephone number.

ok no worries mate, those details will be the same when you do get round to it :)

I got the email invite from o2 but when i phoned up i was rejected because the mobile number i gave was not an o2 mobile number but an orange one, has anyone managed to join using a non o2 mobile number?

Also the staff accounts number i received in the email is only 6 digits long, whenever i got to the 4th digit the phone would hangup with number not recognised message, so i used the number on the website 0800 230 0202, and asked to be put through to the staff accounts number that way, dont know if that makes any difference.

Anachronox, I already mailed you saying you have to call staff accounts directly on the number I sent you. Nothing else will work. I just tried calling the number I sent you again and it's definitely working.

The number you've used above must have connected you to an area that deals with o2 mobile customer discounts, that's why you've been refused. If you speak to staff accounts directly you won't have this problem.

Please just grab a landline phone and dial the staff accounts number I sent you.

I am using my home phone, its a BT landline, never had a problem dialing any number before, sounds like its blocking that o2 number for some reason, i will try calling them with another phone.

It takes about 5 seconds to connect once you've dialled the number. I'm sorry that you're having trouble but the problem must be at your end as no one else is having this problem.

Sorry if I've missed it but what is the discount that z0mbi3 is hooking everyone up with?

I'm currently with Be and getting 15Mb down on fastpath. (only due to crappy wiring. My attentuation is good enough that I should get near 24MB on fastpath).
Anyway, my wife is switching from Orange to O2 so she can have an iPhone and the £10/month listed on the 02 website for 16MB service is a tad cheaper than the £18/month we're currently paying for 24Mb on Be.

Also, does 02 charge for a static IP? (I need one for work)

£7.50 a month for the best LLU package available on your line.

Static IP is an extra £5. If you're interested drop me a mail with the full name, address, bt landline, mobile and contact e-mail.

After registering you you'll get an e-mail from O2 inviting you to give them a call.

Do you work for O2 or something?

You are right zombie, the problem is at my end, my friend tried the number from his phone and it worked fine, its just my bt home phone that seems to not recognise it, so i will have to use another phone, thanks for all your help Henry :)

My O2 line has finally been setup. Cheers z0mbi3.:)

Its nice to have internet again. Unfortunately though im only synching at 4499 Kbps with the attenuation at 52.5 and the noise margin at 6.1. Does this sound about right? Also ive had to use a fair bit of phoneline extension to hook it all up, will this have a big impact on the speed? Once I get properly sorted im probably going to move the router closer to the master socket and run the last bit on CAT5e instead.

Been on o2 for a while now and not had any problems.

However, does anybody know why I can't use my o2 email for use on my OcUK account? When I try it tells me it's banned. My old nildram email has basically expired now as I can't use it anymore, so more or less I'm breaking the OcUK rules as not having a valid email in for contact purposes. My trust has my o2 email in it though, but I can't subscribe to threads :(

It's been annoying me for a while this and I remember bringing it up when I first witched and Gilly said he'd sort it out.

Try the modem connected directly to the master socket and use wireless if you can to see what's it's connected at - if the cable is decent quality it shouldn't make much odds, but it's always worth trying.

Yes. You're much better off leaving the modem connected to the socket with a short cable and then use a long cat5 to run to your computer. Depending on the length, you may notice a BIG difference.

Also, connect to the test socket which is located inside the master socket. It should net you a bit of an increase as well.

Yeah that does sound about right. My mum moved over to o2 and she got activated last night - I checked the router stats out and her line has an attenuation of 60dB and syncs at 3900 down/1000 up. I wouldn't expect to get much more than that to be honest - almost 4.5mbit is good for such a long line.
