Any opinions on o2 broadband?

Hijack:

so im looking for broadband for our new house, the phone line for the house isnt connected to a network atm... and if i wanted to go O2 will i need to get a bt phone contract with it? if so it just more suitable to go with bt broadband or virgin media?

also. there will be 7 people shareing the internet, and throttling will be a small problem for us, are there any reccomendations for this matter>?

also one of the house member has already moved in, and he wants cheaper broadband for while his by him self, it shoudnt be a problem to upgrade within the same ISP with fees etc will there?
 
You need a BT phone service to get O2's ADSL, but that doesn't by any means force you to go with BT Broadband - you need exactly the same voice service for that, and it's utter garbage.

ah, so i take it's just easier to get the lot with virgin,, we really dont have the need for a phone con though.

or are there any other options that works out cheap with a decent connection?
 
The BT line doesn't have to be expensive. If the house physically has a line installed, to have it reconnected doesn't cost anything. Then the cheapest line rental is £10.50 a month, between seven that shouldn't be so bad!
 
was thinking of the o2 package as one of our member might agree to the mobile contract binded with the broadband which will make it 7 50. however, is it worth over what we get for virgin?

and does o2 throttle as much as virgin?

i see bt has started to do ours, i saw ours only get up to 50kb/s at times.


also is there anyway to find out what speeds i can really get without a phone number?

o2 dont throttle at all as far as im aware, which is nice.

What is your current attentuation when you check router stats?

I dont know the scale it increases at but i have 15dB attentuation and sync at 19255kbps after a bit of snr tweaking. so id say anything 20 or lower youll sync at a nice high speed, and even above that its guarenteed to be faster than bt and virgin combined, cos lets face it, theyre both terrible.
 
just called bt but my new hsbc card having 18 digits has caused troubles and now i have to call em back on monday morn :/, how wierd is this !

well thats was for the 60 pounds deposite, and iv now layed the order for a line which is going active on wednesday.

and apparenly i can only place order on broadband once i have an active line.
 
Hi, I am looking to change from Sky to O2 broadband and I was wondering if being on an LLU exchange with sky, I will get any problems migrating to O2 LLU service without losing any service if I get my MAC Code from sky??? Thanks.

Email Admin/Don and tell them that O2 is now your ISP, but you cannot use your O2 issued email address to register etc with the OcUK forum, as an message tells you it's banned....and they will register it for you.

I had this same problem just recently when I went from KeConnect to O2...

Interesting, I have the same issue with my live.com address. Obviously I know why they're banned, it's just a pain that I pay for it and don't like using my O2 one :(
 
The IPStream/Home Connect service isn't as good as LLU and has some teething issues, mainly due to the ineptitude of BT and the lack of support process, but its currently unlimited (utter mentalism in my opinion).
 
Sorry if this has been posted before, but Be* have lowered their 8mb service to £8 until the end of the month. Still not as good as the offer z0mbi3 is offering, but thought i should mentioned it ;D
