Any opinions on o2 broadband?

Hi toontoon, It's a required field in the friends and family sign up web form. You only really need it for information like when you'll be connected and when you're about to be billed etc. Do you have any friends or relatives that wouldn't mind receiving one text a month on your behalf? If not then you can get PAYG sims for free these days so maybe get one of those and just use the number temporarily.

NiCkNaMe,

My email address is in my trust (not my msn one which I never checl), with my friends and family discount I can get you the top package available on your line for £7.50 a month, and no O2 mobile phone needed.

Send me your name, address, landline number, mobile number (doesn't have to be O2, just a mobile to send update texts to) and I can get that sorted for you.

Thanks Wicksta.

Just waiting for my girlfriend to finish work (can't remember the number of the house) and then i'll fire those over.

Much appreciated :-)

Steve

Thanks, I'll do that

'We are sorry but we have identified incompatible product on your telephone line. Please contact O2 customer Care on 0800 230 0202'

Any idea about the above?

Just recived my o2 wireless router and now awaiting text message to show that my connection is up and running.

Many thanks again to Wicksta for the great deal that was offered.

Hi Wicksta,

Got a colleague who's looking to go to O2 (as it's LLU at his local exchange), any chance I could pass on your details to him to sort out a connection?

Cheers!

They've been delaying enabling at my exchange for about 3 months now... just hope they enable it this time.

Also, interested in this F&F thing, can someone explain more about it?

could be something like DACS.

O2 will ring tags-on-line for you and find out if theres anything we can do.

What do you guys think about 55.5dB attenuation?
I have a 54 dB attenuated line and I get aprox 4 Mb down and 1 Mb up although I've asked my SNRM to be raised to 9 dB to stabilise my line as the SNRM used to drop too low in the evenings.

Here's my current sync:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,023 / 4,072

I've also found that due to line length, I'm better off on ADSL2 as opposed to ADSL2+ as the higher frequencies can't be used and my attenuation rises 4 dB to 58 dB with no increase in sync rate.

Also I saw someone posted stats here, where they had 54dB attenuation, and downlink of 5.8Mbit (and that was without tweaking SNR margin). How was this possible?
I don't think it is as on the default 6 dB SNRM, my router used to sync at nearly 5 Mb through the day but I used to get a lot of LOS and LOF problems in the evenings so I asked to have my SNRM increased as I've already mentioned.

Has everyone who requested the friends and family deal from me got their orders through ok? I had quite a few mails so hopefully I didn't miss anyone - let me know via email if I did.

Also if anyone else wants the friends and family deal my email is in trust.

Do you think this deal will still be available at the end of next month? My exchange isn't enabled until 31/10/2008 :(

Hi Dave, yes as far as I know there are no plans to restrict our friends and family signups in the near future, I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

Hi wicksta, I e-mailed you before, but then found out I didn't have a BT phone line. Now I do (activated today), how long does it need to be active for before I can get broadband?

Online sites (o2, sky etc...) say I can only get poor speeds (4mb) but I know for a fact other people in my block are on Be LLU etc... Is this just because the line is 'new' and needs time for systems to update?

CurlyWhirly, thanks a lot for your post.

My attenuation is 55db, SNR margin is 6db, ---> and sync is 1600kbit

Thanks for the advice re adsl2+/adsl2. I have another router (BT Voyager 205), it's ADSL2, shall try it tomorrow.

But it is still unclear why I am getting 1.6Mbit - while I should be getting 4-5 Mbit!!! :-(

How did you switch from O2_ADSL2plus to O2_ADSL? On my router, O2_ADSL is disconnected, and would not connect manually neither (gives a mysterious "disconnected by user" error message).

EDIT: found an answer to my own question. To those who might need it: telnet to your router, and enter the following commands:
xdsl debug multimode config=g992.3_annex_a
saveall

My attenuation improved by 4dB, it is now 51.5dB. SNRM is still 6dB, and sync speed is 1.6mbit. Where is my 5Mbit argh :-(

Guys, any ideas?

Yes that's how I did mine ;)

Strange

Are you using a filtered faceplate or connected to the test socket to eliminate any extension 'noise'?
