Anyone flashed there Vario II to wm 6?

To those having problems trying to upgrade the Radio ROM only.

I'm not sure why (need to read up for the reason) but it seems you can only upgrade the Radio ROM if it comes with an official HTC ROM upgrade as well, hence why you can't upgrade the Radio separately.

I guarantee when the Euro official HTC ROM comes along, when you flash with that it'll also upgrade the Radio ROM to 1.47, as that's the Radio ROM file that's included with the update.

Ages ago I done something that would allow me to upgrade Radio ROM's separately at my leisure, but I can't remember what I did!:o

Reading here might help. Looks like you need to HardSPL first and then whichever Radio ROM from the first section.

Have any of you SIM unlocked and SuperCID your handset with this?

After trying to update the Radio to 1.48 the fourth time it worked correctly and all is well. I have no idea why, but i know i won't be upgrading for a looong time. :p

@ Gavin - why can't you flash it back? I'm sure I saw a default t-mobile rom on XDA, you can't reflash that?

There is a rom yes, but for the life of me it wont flash to a older version for some reason. See my other thread for the exact details
 
Just managed to flash successfully to wm5 2.11, didn't give any trouble at all.

Few noticable differences to t-mobile default:

The 3g/G sign isn't there to let me know whether I'm connected via 3g or normal G.

Can't reconfigure the soft buttons.

There isn't a shortcut to 'currently running programs' to shut them down easily. Appears the only way is to go into memory and click the right tab.

The shortcuts from the today screen are gone.

Crap boring themes.

Tbh signal with the new radio is the same and I don't know whether I'm in a 3g spot or not. OS speed seems very similar too.


Is there anyway I can fix any of this? I guess all I need are those cab files and run automatically the first time you turn on your t-mobile! Are those available?

You need HTC Task Manager. Miles better than that method. Search for it over on XDA.

Wow, thanks a lot for the great help guys. Ill admit i was a bit quick off the mark, the 3G icon is there after all along with another icon.. the H for hsdpa! Now that is quick!

Thats the problem with these PPC phones is that you can't leave them alone! :p Well, maybe I would if T-Mobile shipped the Vario II with a decent firmware.

Any problems with Black Satin peeps?
 
How does the black theme look when on the phone? I'll be honest, I now kinda like the basic green htc theme but have managed to solve the problem I get when I try and flash the black roms so can now do that if I wanted. Just seems to be a bit plain and boring? It's possible to go back if I don't like it right?

When I first flashed with a newer firmware I was gobsmacked with the speed and stability increase. That was with a WM5 1.35 ROM. The latest WM5 ROM is 2.11! Thats not even including all of the latest WM6 ROM we're dabbling with here.

Make me laugh. What is the Radio and ROM version you've got installed there?:p
