Are you 100% sure that you've entered the connection details in correctly?

Yes.........double and triple checked.............as otherwise the internet wouldnt connect over gprs would it?

What it actually does is connects for like 2 seconds then loads the first page then displays the no modem errors then wont load anymore

Also the battery is dead with in a day now where as before i would get 2-3 days of normal use

What ROM did you flash again? The 2.05 ROM?

Could be one of 2 things.

1. Network coverage. There may be some network issues in your area at the moment. If the signal is weak, then that could explain the disconnects. This would also explain the poor battery life as the handset is constantly seeking for a decent signal.

I'm having some issues with T-Mobile coverage at the moment. I'm currently unable to make or receive any calls and not data access (texts are ok though). If I walk 10 minutes down the road to work, everything is fine. Same if I go into town. Round my girlfriends now and its perfect.

I'm having these problems on 3G. If I force to GSM, then I can make and receive calls at home. So I'm thinking there's an issue with my local 3G mast.

Try it at different locations to rule out a network issue.

2. The 2.05 ROM comes with a Radio version 1.35 (or 1.34, one of the 2). The radio rom is basically responsible for the cellular communication. It might be that the version with that ROM isn't working properly for you, so you can easily just flash the Radio ROM only with another version. The good thing it won't wipe the phone clean or hard reset it. You simply flash the new Radio ROM and you're good to go.

You want one from the Radio upgrade only using SSPL section. Simply connect the phone to PC, establish an Active Sync connection and run the .exe. Process takes around 20 minutes. Do not try one from the standard method!

Try 1.27 or 1.38.10.

I'm currently using 1.38.10 as it came with the new 2.11 ROM. Been pretty good for me so far. One thing I've noticed is that it establishes a data connection a lot quicker than before.

im gonna flash with new rom any how pah wont let me this time, same erros as before but i cant extract the romupgrade file from this rom flash file

BTW still havnt managed to sort the 3g internet issue

Why are you trying to extract stuff?

I just flashed the phone with HardSPL and then ran the 2.11 ROM Upgrade .exe. Took 10 minutes in total and works like a charm.

My 3G issue at home seems to be ok today as I can finally send and recieve calls. Must have been a local transmitter issue but will be keeping an eye on it.

Did you try using the phone at various location?

Will add that the 1.38.10 Radio version in this 2.11 ROM is having a positive effect on battery life.

Pulled my phone away from the mains socket yesterday at around 12pm, made a call, sent/recieved loads of texts in the evening, made a call today and browsed the net. Battery now showing 50%.

Becasue on the previous rom i had to extract it first using win rar and then upgrade rom the normal way then when i get the error message run the romupd file manually as per instructions from xda

You will over-write the Hard_SPL by doing it that way. What I did was flashed the Vario2 to the latest Hard_SPLV2 (SPL 1.11Oli) and extract the RUU_signed.nbh from the RUU_Inside.exe (which is inside the ship rom), modified it as in the guide then use the Custom RUU updater to flash :)

You can't. Flashing has to be done via XP at the moment. Loads of users have reported problems flashing with Vista.

The guys who develop all of these lovely flashing tools primarily all have XP machines, so development is based around that platform at the moment. Once they get they're hands on Vista a solution will appear in due time but for now its XP.

DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO FLASH WITH VISTA!!! You could brick the device!

Search the XDA forums for "How to: upgrade to WM6 without a PC!". Basically involves transfering all the files to the SD card and flashing from there.

Either that or dual boot with XP.

is there any easy way to flash the damn thing?
i was right with you until Ken1307's post then it suddenly started to sound like a real task.

it sounds complicated but its quite straight forward, all you need to do is follow the guide :) remember, I am a first time flasher as well :p

GuruJockStrap many thanks for this info, bit the bullet and upgraded to the stated firmware and it has given my Vario II a whole new lease of life. It's far better, more responsive, better battery life. Now running Opera and the advised DNS Settings and that is vastly superior over T-Mobiles.

Been on the new settings just over a week now and everything is more stable. Like the fact you get the relevant symbols for 3G, H for HSDPA and even an E for EDGE when I was in Paris last week.

Thanks again :D

Is that the HTC 2.11 ROM?

It really is a fantastic ROM. What the Vario II should've shipped with back in Spetember. I've yet to soft reset the device since installing the ROM a couple of weeks back. Thats pretty good for a Windows Mobile device! :p

I'm not one of these people that flash the firmware everytime something new comes out so 2.11 will serve me well until a final, stable and fast ROM of WM6 appears.

Which dns settings are you using mate?

Also does the H come up whether or not your have hsdpa enabled on the account side or not as im still not sure how to get it as t mobile say its enabled on the account..but ive never had a H even in strong 3g areas

I'm just using the default T-Mobile DNS.

I remember reading a while back that you need to use the T-Mobile DNS servers to achieve full speed. Not sure if thats still the case.

What ROM version are you using?

Don't think I've yet to see the HSDPA icon on my handset. 3G is there all the time though. I had HSDPA enabled in my registry but I was getting loads of connection problems. Disabled it and its been fine ever since. Think some sneaky swines at T-Mobile must've realised I was using HSDPA when I shouldn't be and removed it from my account. :p
