Anyone flashed there Vario II to wm 6?

I upgraded the girlfreind's last night to "Windows Mobile VI Pro – Black Edition 2.0" by jasjamming over at XDA. It has made a huge difference to the phone and now works really quickly compared to the stock WM5 that Orange put on there, at the same time as updating the OS i also updated the bootloader using Hard SPLv6 and the radio so the spec's are now:

Bootloader: 1.40 Olipro
Radio version: 1.38.00.10
ROM version: Pro Black 2.0
ROM date: 01/04/07
Windows Mobile 6 professional (Build 17740.2.3.0)

The good thing about this rom is that it uses the RTM version of WM6 so no more beta software.

Forgot to add that i unlocked and made it super cid as well.

Yeah if you do come across this make sure the FIRST thing you do is install HardSPL 1.40. This will make it easier to recover if you brick your phone, and believe many, many people have done this and are still doing it.

I am running the LSVW version of WM6 as it's cleaner ATM but will no doubt install a newer one in a couple of weeks. My advice would be the same as GuruJockStrap and wait a while until thing settle down especially if you have a lot of programs to reinstall.

WM6 is much, much better for me than WM5 was and with the new Radio's that are out the phone is now a joy to use.
 
Anyone know the Connection setting for O2 PAYG on a unlocked T-Mobile MDA Vario II. Tried standard O2 PAYG Settings but no joy connecting.

BTW I have a O2 £G PAYG SIM I am trying to use, can make and receive calls OK but no internet.

OK, word of warning guys, DO NOT TRY THIS VIA ACTIVESYNC 4.5. This caused all sorts of problems on my PC, my phone simply wouldn't stay connected when i ran 2.11. I had to go back to Activesync 4.2.

Now a question. I hate green, but when i try to change the theme and set it to Windows Default (Blue theme) the phone pad and other bits are STILL green. Can the whole thing be changed?

Flashed with Active Sync 4.5 without any issues here.

With regards to the themes, when you change to the windows theme for example, the dialer skin, connections menu, and call history lists etc all remain HTC green.

You can't do anything with the connection menu or call history, speed dial lists etc, but you can change the dialer. For some skins, check out these. I personally use the Carbon Extra Black.
 
i flashed mine with the 2.11 rom via active sync 4.5 without any problems :)

really liking this ROM, havent had a single problem - not even a soft reset in the past few weeks since flashing it :cool:

Radio 1.38.00.10

I now have better T-Mobile reception. Before I had no reception if my PDair metal case had its window closed. Now I can get one bar of reception with the case and two bars without.

I'm also using Wifi WPA2 encryption now.

TomTom Navigator 6 still has some issues though. I still need to use the Windows softkey to bring it back to life occasionally.

The storage card sometimes disappears as well. :(
 
Using the 2.11 ROM and have experienced no problems with the missing memory card issue. Might be due to the manufacturer of the card. Mine is a 2GB SanDisk Ultra II.

Can't say I've ever had any major problems with Tom Tom 6 either to be honest. I've used it many times now and yet to experience the dreaded lockups that some people are having.
 
christ i havent even flashed mine and i've had some tomtom6 problems.
it tends to lockup while im trying to enter an address.
the only remedy i can find is to use the side button to call up the comms manager then close it again, leaving me at the same address menu but able to continue typing.

well unless im missing something i dont have the option to go to start programs, wireless modem as the instruction book states

Received my new Vario II this morning (replacement for the one I lost :( ) and the first thing I did when I took it out of the box was flash it with HardSPL, 1.38 radio and WM6 black 2.0 this morning.

Loving it so far!

Thats the option if you want to set the screen to landscape permanently.

I take it you want to set it to landscape temporarily? If thats the case, then I don't think you can do this. You'll be needing a 3rd party app to perform this function (I could be wrong though!).
 
I'm about to flash my Vario II with the latest HTC Rom, but before I do how do I backup my contacts? I can't remember how I done it before. Does anyone know if there's going to be an official Vario II WM6 rom?

EDIT: My rom version is 1.21.110.3 when the latest is 2.15 :eek:

What is WM6 Black 2.0? is it an official WM6 rom or a modded one? And is that equivalent to a BETA? :)
