Flashed using Black Dymond 3.5 and Purls ;) Lovin it so far , TomTom works great too. A lot faster than Black 3.0. Highly recommended :D

Same here. Although Black 4.0 should be out soon. Thats rumoured to use the final WM6 version, so can't wait for it.

Grrr.... Just my luck. Flash with Black 3.5 only to discover the next version out in a week or so.

3.5 might not be based on a final WM6 build but its virtually flawless for me. Will probably give it a month before upgrading. Let all the early adopters discover all the bugs and issues before jumping in.

Forgot about this thread! :o

BoomAM: Supposed to be this month but no sign of it yet.

Gavin: Did you get that problem sorted out?

I recently caved in and went to WM6 with Black Dymond 3.5. Was experiencing the missing SD Card bug where I'd take some photo's, save them only to go back and view to discover nothing there. WM6 appears to have solved the issue for me thankfully.

WM6 is a nice upgrade to WM5. Office Mobile compatability with Office 2007, SD Card Encryption, HTML email, integration with Windows Live and more responsive menus and button presses. Its a lot more stable too.

Nope still not managed to do it so i may just have to "loose it" still gotta pay £60 excess either way

Gav, Hold down the left OK button on the side of the handset, then the power button at the side and then insert the stylus into the soft reset hole.

Once you've done that, post back here with what it states.

If I may butt in here with a few questions :D

1. I have a t-mobile MDA Compact III. What HTC model name is this?

2. It's running WM5. What's the score with licencsing if you upgrade it to WM6? The MDA came with a M$ disk and licence. Are all upgrades free?

3. Is there like a windows update feature like with desktop windows? i.e. can you just connect to M$ update / downloads / MBSA for patches?

4. Running version 5.0 with messaging and security feature pack OS 5.1.342 (Build 15096.3.0.0). Is this a good version?

5. ROM Versions are 1.13.110.1 WWE 9/22/06
Radio 02.49.90
Protocol 4.1.13.25
ExtROM 1.13.110.101

Worth flashing?

The MDA Compact III is a HTC p3300 (Artemis).

Can't really comment Frank_Rizzo on that model as I'm only really clued up on the Hermes.

My best advice would be to head on over to the Artemis section over at XDA here.

:)

Im getting a bit annoyed now.
The computer that i flashed my TyTn with, a XP machine, now long wants to work with activesync. It'll either crash, or get stuck on the 'recieving settings' bit of the sync.
MS suggest its because of Sygate, but i dont buy that because its worked in the past, and its disabled at the moment and it still doesnt work!.

Ideas?

You tried deleting the Mobile device from Active Sync and re-establishing a connection?

Open up ActiveSync>File>Delete Mobile device.

Mine did that now and again and it was purely down to the ActiveSync PC client screwing up.

Also make sure you're using the latest 4.5.0 build.

I had to shut down Sygate ( even though I allowed Active Sync to work ) and NOD32

But now Activesync works a treat  Pain in the ass but it does work ;)

I'm still using Black Dymond here.

That official HTC ROM's build version is only slightly newer than the one I'm using.

Will be waiting for JJ to release Black Satin, which should be based on this official HTC release.

I've just recently got a Hermes (T-mob vario 2) so am new to the whole flashing thing, but I've done a whole load of reading about it. I've flashed to HardSPL successfully, and have just downloaded the official HTC WM6 release.

However, when I run the .exe it soft boots the Hermes thus losing the connection. It then came to the penultimate screen before performing the update so I rebooted the hermes back on, re-established the activesync connection and hit go....0%....the phone screen then goes blank for a while, before an error pops up saying the connection has been lost.

Crap my pants for a while, wonder if I've just bricked it. I don't touch anything but look for info on the best way to try and recover from this. Then 5 mins later the screen comes back on and everything is fine...phew!

Is WM6 really that good and is it worth trying another rom (I've since tried the official one again but same thing), or shall I just stick to the latest WM5?

Edit - I've had a read of recommended programs and am just installing Opera and wififofum, anything else really essential to upgrade usability?

Look back earlier in this thread. I gave a few links to some excellent freeware apps.:)

You definitely need to flash if your running the T-Mobile firmware. The firmware that they still ship with Vario II's is really old and so is the Radio ROM version.

If you only want to run WM5, then you need to flash to the latest HTC version which is 2.11 if I remember. This contains WM5 AKU 3.3. Think of it as a service pack for the OS as it fixes a lot of bugs.

WM6 fixes a few more bugs, adds some new features and generally feels a little bit faster. For me though, it solves the disappearing SD Card problem I had with WM5.
