Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

It still not miners, your reply shows a lack of understanding for the industry

I'd like to point out that people were still blaming miners for RTX 3080 Ti stocks diminishing so fast on launch day, despite them having LHR.

Even after explaining this to them, they still continue blaming the miners.

Plus they continue to think its the miners that are paying £2000+ for them on eBay, when they have the same mining power as a 3060 at maybe double the electric use.

'You know you can't mine on the 3080 Ti due to them only being as good as a 3060 for that while using up twice as much power?'

Manufacturers are responsible for inovating in a way that allows them to make products better at various price points and still make a profit.

As an end user I just need to know two things:

How does it perform?
How much does it cost?

For miners, graphics cards are money-printers. The math is just cold calculations. No price is too high if the GPU can print enough money, fast enough.

For gamers GPU value doesn't scale to infinty like it does for miners.

When its the only model in stock some wealthy people will buy them but they represent a tiny and insignificant minority. Add to that people that make bad investments and lose money, plenty of them around.

Let me put it in simple words. For miners the new cards have been money printers. How do you put a value in that? Its a freakin money printer! For gamers the new cards have been FREE after 3-4 months. Let me say that again: FREE card for everyone that can get one!
I've seen people go crazy for a free cup of coffee...

Well, while it is true that only a clueless miner would buy a LHR 3080 Ti, if miners have contributed to the overall GPU shortage then even though they may not be buying LHR cards but the miners hadn't bought most everything up, would there be so many people crazy enough to buy 3080 Ti's at over-priced prices?
I always blame the impatient, I-must-have-it-now gamers as well as the I-am-going-to-get-rich miners in roughly equal measures.
After all, the because-I-am-worth-it gaming crowd already pushed prices up years ago by buying Titans etc.

Must admit I’m loath to jump on a card now. Had a 6800xt Aorus Masterr in my basket “somewhere else” about 45 minutes ago and bailed on it. £1100 still felt massively over the top for a card that in theory launched at £799 or so. Waited this long, maybe just hold off a few more weeks…..

That is going to be gone, £1100 for that card in this climate! it would be gone! The cards costs like £900 or so msrp from the AIBs site they said that.

What people forget is that
The many people that were able to continue working from home during lockdown are flush with savings and until recently didn't have many places to spend it - I can't imagine that people are willing to keep paying 4 figures for mid-high end graphics cards looking forward a couple of months, especially if Proof-of-Stake cryptocurrencies end up taking off and tanking the mining market.

VR experiences start looking so much less appealing once the hardware's price has been inflated so much that you might as well just go on a nice holiday somewhere exotic for the same money.

Yah, what people forget with working from home and the millions of people getting free money on Furlough cannot be sustained! When the government cut that nonsense Furlough and force people back to work, up taxes, unemployment, paying expensive commute costs...People will wake up fast and prices would also drop further because no way those high priced would last.

Lol, of course it's miners.

Who else was buying 480s at £450 or Vegas at £650.. several years after their release and subsequent EOL. After those cards had sat on shelves for years and been heavily discounted multiple times.

Or do you think gamers suddenly realised 480s and Vegas were criminally under-priced, and couldn't wait to get hold of those old 2017 cards five years later :p

It is completely inexplicable that some people choose to believe GPU mining is not a significant - probably the #1 culprit.

Also none of the cards out atm are 5nm, so 5nm has nothing to do with anything.

Seems very logical to me. Also there are reports of people owning a 6700xt and swapping them for a 5700xt, why would gamers have been swapping 6700xt for 5700xt to game on when the 6700xt is a more powerful gaming card, but less powerful at mining?

Plus plenty of news reports of mining, including countries like China and Iran cracking down on mining owing to energy use, https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/worl...y-be-a-cause/ar-AALhbAl?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531

Nicholas Taleb the Black Swan author is all over crypto limitations at the moment. IMHO - give it time and there is a chance that the currencies will converge at a price zero. Either that or my grandchildren will be asking me why I didn't buy in at the start :;

You see in the space of 2 days all OcUk Nvidia cards are now gone! I said get in there while you can as this happened last time 3 Series cards were listed on there. Let hope they get another drop in that's more affordable.

There's plenty available actually. You can buy a GTX 1050 Ti for £275, or a GTX 1650 for £325.

Thats what everyone has to deal with right now.

I still haven't gotten around to testing if my Radeon 550 will work in my main PC with its stock bios, it refuses to output with a fully functional modified bios and only works on my pentium.

Theres an issue as well where high end boards don't allow GPUs that only get powered from the PCI-E slot to work, and I cannot find anything in my bios about it.

I need to figure this out in case my 1080 Ti does suddenly happen to break.
