Anyone Tried The £14.99 "New PC" Win 8 Pro Offer ?

I got the upgrade, tried the clean install and it would not activate, told me my license would not allow a clean install, had to then put 7 back on and then upgrade from it, it then created the windows.old folder to which I cleaned up.
did u try this > have win7 installed then boot from the the win 8 dvd/usb then choose custom install then format the drive ??

because I think the win8 setup checks your hdd for a previous OS

The £14.99 offer worked for me on a very old copy of vista. I used the Win7 key off of my work laptop for registration (my work uses a corperate licesne rather than the sticker key so it had never been used). Dowloaded, installed over my existing Vista 64 build and activated fine.

It seems that MS does not tie the Win8 key to a specific Win7, Vista or XP key so once downloaded you can use it on anything.

Yea that's what I did
Activate Windows 8 Pro Upgrade

Windows 8 users who noticed that the operating system can’t be activated after the installation may want to try the following workaround that worked to activate when installing Windows 7 using an upgrade on a clean PC.
  • Open regedit by pressing Windows-q, entering regedit and selecting the result from the list of hits.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
  • Change MediaBootInstall from 1 to 0
  • Go back to the start screen and enter cmd there.
  • Right-click Command Prompt and select to run it as administrator.
  • Type slmgr /rearm on the command line and hit enter.
  • Reboot Windows now.
  • Run the activation utility afterwards, enter your product key to activate Windows.

Cant get past the sodding registration process still.

just says im not eligible for the upgrade, entered Dell as the retailer and the XPS 8500 as the pc model.
Could it be that im doing this from Firefox?

Did you put in a purchase date that was after June 2 since you didn't say if you did that.

I put in acer as the manufacturer, littlewoods (I looked through all their available laptops first) as the retailer and aspire 5560 as the PC model and I got my promo code without any other questions (but that was about two days ago).

I used the same details as you, and I got asked to put my Windows 7 key in.

:(

Whether it's right or wrong is hard to say. It breaches the terms of sale, most people are not eligible for this offer, that's for sure.
I think what's being openly discussed here goes beyond a simple breach of contract, as it involves deliberate and knowing deception (to which some people have freely admitted). Technically it's "fraud by misrepresentation," which is a criminal offence carrying a penalty of up to ten years in chokey, although I doubt if Interpol have been put on a high state of alert in this instance.

Personally I couldn't give a rat's nether regions what people do, but I'm a bit surprised that this thread is still going, and that the posters concerned haven't (yet) had a spanking from the mods. :)

You the police or something?

sorry but thats pure rubbish.

MS delivered a simple childs play system for anyone to claim discount on a product they own. we as consumers are using there system in place to get a discount. it is not our fault that there system doesnt check for proof of purchase etc.

you are going way overboard.

seriously pal chill.

I have intel rapid storage technology on my PC and it always goes wrong when I have to reload windows, will this copy allow me to undertake a fresh install from a clean HD to Windows 8, or will I have to always load Win 7 then upgrade to 8 in the future?

no your not chilled. you sound a frustrated individual.
Darn it, you have uncovered my secret motivation; I haven't been getting enough lately. :(

I didn't say your facts where inconveniant ! have you paid full price for w8 by any chance?
I haven't actually bought it yet (is this relevant?), but I expect that if and when I do, I'll go for the upgrade at £25 rather than waste time faffing around pretending I'm eligible for the £15 offer. I'll have to suck it up and dream about how many tins of economy baked beans I could have bought with the £10 I might otherwise have saved.

Happy now?

Captain crush. Ten pounds is better off in your pocket than microsofts.
You do realise you are the only one complaining as you want to pay Microsoft even more money.
An eye for a bargin......

ants94, I'm not the only one complaining, and yes, I'd rather £10 were in my pocket than Microsoft's. I'd rather ***** them over within the law though, it's more satisfying that way.

It's not a "bargain" when you're helping yourself to something to which you're not entitled. Would you buy something from a shop for £25, and then help yourself to £10 from the till when the cashier's back is turned?

Quite ironically, the only machine I have that's actually legitimately eligible for this offer (Netbook) doesn't support Metro as the screen resolution is too low!

Lucky escape if you ask me, might have actually paid for an OS
