anyone used to play on Wireplay ?

I used to play AvP, UT'99 and Q3 on WP, BW and various other fun dialup communities. I really miss those days, if not the phone bills or the lack of daylight due to spending all my time playing computer games :p

I played under the name Aekeron or OldTimer in some of those games - mostly when I got tired of guys trying to hit on me due to somehow getting the impression I was some kind of French Tart.

Ooh memories.
Used it from 1999 - 2003. Only played Kingpin with [DP] clan. Still use the same name now.
The 1p a min really helped reduce my phone bill
Spent a lot of time in the chat rooms in between games.

Yep old Wireplay and Barrysworld gamer here! Started with HLDM mostly then moved onto CS beta. The only vague memory I have of the beta was some map that reminded me of prague maybe? Either way those 2 games dominated my teenage years.

I remember before I got ISDN I used to dual with some dude called ti3n (maybe?) a fair bit just because I knew he was good and we were both HPB's (remember the acronym? :p)

I still use the same screen name as I did then, it's a bit embarassing now at age 29 but honestly not bothered enough to change it on here

That is a miss.

Inter provider battles.... You had the wireplay mob. force nine, nildram, globalnet, ect ect..

Near enough all clans were an alumnus formed from the in house games servers.

Gave a sense of identity, felt like you were representing.

Started my online life on Wireplay. Managed to get TF2000 working......once ;)
After that it was way too many hours playing Unreal and UT.
Even got my own Unreal server and ran some competitions where the winner got a custom engraved Wireplay tankard.

Happy days :D

good old WP :) Started on half life then moved into TFC. Played for [HB] and the mighty [CMC] the Chuckle Muppet Collective as Spam and Phwoarrrr!! respectively.

CMC was just awesome, a load of the WP TFC people teamed up to take on the European teams and stuffed them much to their general disgust :)

God i miss the £400 phone bills! made even worse when my Everquest disc made it over the atlantic.

My first introduction to online gaming via wireplay - used to play AVP to death on it with horde mode; moved over to Barrysworld after that and got into CS playing with the P@ntz and ICBWNB guys. Probably some of the best times gaming and community I've been apart of.

Already posted on this thread....8 years ago :D

Still get a pang of happiness and nostalgia when I remember the sound of my 56k dialing up. So much has happened in my life since then, but I don't think I'll ever forget the Wireplay vibe.

Played UT exclusively. Before I went online I thought I was gonna pwn everyone.

Having no notion of what 'ping' was, boy my first game, wow was I disappointed.

But then after slugging it out with a 280 ping for nearly two years, I finally got ISDN...And oh my word.

I'll never forget the astounding difference it made. I soon joined |A|byss afterwards and played in lots of tournaments, BW, WP, CB, Jolt etc. My life was complete :D

Edit. I used to browse the forum archive once in a blue moon which they'd kept up for quite a long time, sadly though it was taken offline several months ago :(

Ah the joys of 56k on a diamond express modem.. 120-150 ping lol.

I used to play the for TC| [DA] and many others.. tried to get into [SHS] but wasn't an LPB lol.

In counters trike I played all the betas all the way up to version 1.0.. used to be in [KK], [MAI], [eC*K] and many many others..

I used to play as *Fr3aK* or later on as Fr3aK.

Good old days with team speak!! And getting passed off with "backtrackers" on the hahah

Yeps seem to remember the ut ctf league there when i was in [Raven] clan :) also used to play in barrys world ctf league also dont forget netgames-uk.net was a pretty good isp and game server provider at around the same time..... sadly like the other providers it all went pete tong :(
Best internet gaming days by a long shot for me :D

I got into UT through the original Unreal, went in the deep end and was playing it online from the get go (it even had a hilariously trollish co-op mode),
I even remember the initial reception of UT looking "cartoonish" when it launched amongst communities, didn't last long when people realised how tight the gameplay was though
Played on wireplay, barrysworld, jolt, mpz, multiplay, heat.net (both eu/us) but to name a few, my brother got into it when he finally got a pc as well

We were both very good, fun times :) Was absolutely crazy when those of us on dial up started getting broadband as well

Couple of those places (wireplay, jolt, mpz) even had fairly large Ultima Online communities for a time.. the latter was a great server for a while

Spent far too much time on WP, so much so i went an entire year at school without handing in a single piece of homework... Good days!

Action quake2 was an awesome game(mod), not found a game since that's had the same pace to it, used to play for NCP, HASH and MnK. Unfortunately I lost all my match recordings and screenshots years ago but definetly have fond memory's ( and not so fond being shouted at by my parents for running up a massive phone bill or two ). Can't believe that was 15 ish years ago!
