Anything wrong with this job application?

I dont think it's professional either. It was inevitable the application would be mocked.

The "excuse" that the applicant may learn from his/her mistakes by reading this thread is unbelievably lame.

The correct and professional way to give this person a little guidance on how to apply for a job is by a reply letter/email.

I didn't offer any "excuse".

The application was posted with all personal details that could identify the applicant removed. There is no risk that the idenity of the applicant could be revealed and I could have made the whole thing up.

The reason I posted it is that this is one of the better applications with most of them falling far below this standard. I find that quite shocking.

I know, cbs did that on your behalf, and it was lame.

Fair enough, no personal data. But with the employer having an online presence - you must admit there's a fair chance that applicant will come across this? I refuse to agree with some of your foot soldiers :p that the guy is getting constructive critisism in this thread.

Ok clearly the guy needs to learn a thing or two, but through the employers forum?

Harsh.

I find it quite heartening actually, as if that's the general quality of applications in the IT field at the moment, I've far more chance of getting to an interview stage should I wish to change jobs :)

ROFL .... :D

Unbelievable application and at 26, you’d think he’d know better. Just that opening “hiya” would have been enough for the file cabinet labelled “BIN”.

I’m sorry, but people are going to slate me for this next comment but it just goes to show that there is no substitute for “real life” experience over the text book.

There's a difference between an A* English student and someone who can write properly

I only got a grade B at GSCE English (just) and I can write far better than the original applicator

I didn't agree with the Spie Suspension Rampage (although they are quite easy to see coming), but I still dont see the problem with posting the e-mail here.

If I were making such mistakes I would seriously want a way of realising I was making such mistakes, but then again I am not a sensitive bunny and do not choose to blame my failures/sucesses upon the attitudes of those around me.

SSR - I like it.

To be honest I didn't see it as a personal attack on the person that sent the application in, more of a "see what I have to work with" cry from Spie (that rhymes you know).

To be honest I've been in the unfortunate position of having to hire people and it really is a thankless task ;)

If that is the best you can do in terms of a "considered" and "professional" application I wouldn't employ you to clean floors.

How does that rhyme? Spie rhymes "me" and "bee" etc...

how did he get into university, that cannot be real and if it is it cannot be one of the better ones :/

Have you not seen the general poor level of English on these forums from members who are students or graduates? Based on that evidence, the poor standard of English in the letter doesn't surprise me at all.
