Anything wrong with this job application?

What would happen if a customer wanted a Technician's report, yet the Technician could hardly spelling? Technician: "'ere Gibbo! Do this report for me, will yer?" ;)

So no Yorkshire people are aloud to apply? :p :D

How have some people managed to slip through the net?
Sorry pot, kettle.

Items for sale with descriptions like this....

"Supplied with Intel referance heatsink & fan"

Is it me, or has this turned into a "Pick on Spie's company" thread?

I think that Spie is fair to dismiss a potential application on the basis of grammar and I think anyone in his position would.

As far as posting it here - he has not mocked the person who sent it in any way and has been serious throughout - the person who sent it is likely to gain more honest feedback than he ever has for any other application...

No comment, purely on the basis that Darlington isn't that from the County Durham/North Yorkshire boundary. :o

I think Spie was trying to eliminate the cocky comments from certain people.

But I agree - the people applying could well be reading this thread as we speak, and be preparing another letter to email Spie. :)

True, better than getting no feedback or reply which seems to be the case for my job applications (not to OCUK BTW ;) )

I agree there, cant see the point in suspending someone because they simply didnt agree with the way you posted someones job application on the forum. He has an opinion and was banned for it.. Niiiiice :)

But at the end of the day no matter how we might like to claim free speach and such, we are effectively sitting in someone elses house and should be more tactful in our approach. Simon's post was written quite confrontationally (well thats how it sounded to me).

All those that are moaning and complaining about suspensions and free speech and "did he have to" etc, need to remind themselves of the forum rules. They are available free of charge here.

Have a nice day

Reminds me of a saying...

"He who makes the rules can break the rules" :p

Must be fun being the Boss! :D

"hiya"

would have killed it for me before I even read any more of it

I agree entirely. If you're applying for a professional post, you make sure that your application looks professional. "Hiya" as a way of greeting simply isn't.

With regards to the various people who have said that punctuation and grammar shouldn't be a deciding factor when screening applications, of course it is. Out of 2 equally qualified applicants, are you going to go for the one who wrote a really good, professional application, or the one who couldn't be bothered and decided to apply in a casual manner?

As for the arguments that the applicant may be dyslexic/poor at English etc, well, if that's the case surely he should know to get someone to proof read the application before sending it in.
