yeah but im sure they could write properly if they wanted too, just too lazy & its only a forum. Still, the fact that every tom, dick and harry now has a degree whilst not even being able to spell basic words and construct coherent sentences is slightly disturbing.

and i recon its Spy too, thats how i've always thought of it

I don't share that belief :) Personally I wouldn't employ someone who has to make an 'effort' to produce a letter which isn't littered with basic errors, or who has to rely on a spell checker. For an educated person it should come naturally.

True. It seems to be the blind leading the blind nowadays. Barely literate graduates are allowed to become teachers.
 
Reading through these posts and speaking from some who is dyslexic, there is no excuse for an application of that standard. I'm sorry.

In the difficult process of eliminating applications to find a suitable candidate, it only points out to the employer that the applicant hasn’t put any thought or effort into the application at all.

I can’t speak for Mr. Spie in this case but I’m sure a few mistakes would be granted providing that the application was well presented and well thought about. However, this clearly wasn’t the case.

In the past, if I’ve been applying for jobs then I would certainly get at least two or three people to proof read my letters and/or applications before I even think about posting them.

As for general day to day emailing and writing (including using the forums), I normally keep a copy of word open to assist. As I said, there are no excuses today really.

That said, I’m sure you are going to rip shreds in my posts from now on.

Hmmmm. That depends what you mean by 'barely literate' - I am sure that a person requires a GCSE in English in order to apply for a PGCE...

Not really. My grammar and spelling is atrocious on forums, because I really don't care that much. When writing something more formal my mindest immediately alters and my grammar and spelling improves alongside. It's still no effort to write well, it's just the style of writing depending on what I'm doing.
 
I always thought it was pronounced Spee as well. :confused:

Still application was pretty poor. Unless its a wind up.

I mean you ask for the info. If they can't provide that then I wouldn't want to employ them either.
 
I'm never in favour of a good old 'SSR' and I certainly don't think Simon deserved it at all. But if i'm honest (and I do mean honest, not honest in prevention of suspension) the application was very shoddy, and if I were in the position of having to receive these day in and day out I would find it very difficult to keep them all to myself.
My own job applications have been few and far between due to attending university for the last two years, but i've never sent anything out that read like that thing. I would expect the recipient to react as Spie and most posters in this thread have done. A bit of a derision with a pinch of constructive criticism.
