AOC u3477Pqu 34-Inch 3440 x 1440 Monitor

AOC are usually good at getting their products out, feb seems like a long wait lol
as much as I like this screen I think there's bound to be something better coming by then

how about a 40inch curved screen aoc :)

I terms of competition for the AOC from what I've seen the LGUM95 is the only other flat 34" 21:9 panel in existence.

The other 34" 21:9 panels coming out (Dell, Samsung, LG) are all curved variants (which seem to cost around £400 more) so maybe AOC reckon there's no rush to get it to market as there isn't really any direct competition.

Biggest problem shipping out the screen so late (apart the fact it was supposed to ship out in October) it's freesync rather than anything else imho since we know there will be flat 34'' 21:9 freesync monitors early on in 2015, which is kinda awkward. This one in fact has been confirmed multiple times to be NOT freesync compatible (dp 1.2 only) so apparently it will ships out so late that the market will have stepped further by that time. And we still don't know much about the bleeding issues. Quite hard to preorder this one now even if I've been waiting for it quite a while :(

Maybe some serious review could tell us something more......

I saw that review and honestly, if I'll get the same amount of bleeding shown in the picture I'd be more than happy :o

Btw: ordered one, 650€, arriving the 5th.....

any bleeding tends to look worse on IPS anyway as the blacks are not super black to begin with? or just adds to the "ips glow"?
ips screens can look amazing don't get me wrong

I guess it depends whats important to you, i think VA panels can look really good, i think id love a big curved VA screen that would be sweet

still a little jealous hope you get a good one fingers crossed for you

Assume you're not in the UK?

Nope, I'm in Italy and several shops offer it for about 700€, included amazon at 730€. I was lurking on that other shop since last summer and once I've been confirmed they'll receive 5 on the 5th I just went all in :D

Yeah it's kinda hard to tell what is the amount of bleeding one can tolerate and what is over, both because on ips monitors you'll have some anyway and because in pictures it looks much worse. But if you google "LG 34UM95 bleeding" and then compare what you'll see with that picture above..... well you'll see.

As regards VA panels, I've read many things and finally had a friend which was intolerant for anything that's not perfectly black (playing mostly space sims like kerbal, X3, elite dangerous, star citizen.....) who bought the Samsung S32D850 specifically for the VA panel and this is what he got:

Apparently, VA panels suffer from a different problem (called "cones of something-something") which makes the retroillumination look uneven and.... conical. But yeah, no bleeding at all :o

So at the end of the story, finger crossed is pretty much all you can do, and avoiding the LG of course which had some evident assembly issues adding insult to injury on the backlight bleeding situation.

i think id be a bit disappointed with that VA :o
playing space game in the dark is worst case too lol

part of the negative in that review was the reviewer not liking the 21:9 aspect, which really isn't a good place to start from!

ive only used 2 aoc screens but they were both really good
i agree safer bet than LG

Anyone know the absolute minimum GPU wise to be able to run this 1440 24" screen in windows (not games)?
Just so I have an idea.

You wouldn't need anything special to run non-gaming stuff.

34" sorry.

Games would look amazing (providing you can push it) im guessing.
But would a 1440 make a real difference to movies?

Also, not meaning to be ignorant, but could anyone just 'update' me on when this monitor might be due, and how much they reckon it'll be?

Long day, and need sleep so can't read through the thread :o

February apparently and anything up to around £600 odd (we hope)... I'm waiting too :D

1440 vertical won't make a difference, but 3440 width would for those films that still have a letterbox as you can fill the screen.

I know a 1440 display would look very nice and give you a lot of real estate for windows ect. But if a GPU isn't up to scratch to run a game at 1440. Is it possible to run a game at 1080?

Yes it will run fine but with black bar "pillars" to the left and right of the screen if the monitor is set to 1:1 or will stretch the picture to fill the screen if you set it to wide albeit with a weird stretched look to it.

It launched in Sweden yesterday for sure, lots of stores have it in stock atm. Mine will be here monday, will share some photos after i get it up and running.
