AOC u3477Pqu 34-Inch 3440 x 1440 Monitor

bleed and glow are two different things
and yes in theory the curve should help with the glow as it depends on the view angle (same would go for the gamma/contrast shift of the VA panels)

Ok but the problem with these guys is the bleeding so I wouldn't suggest going for a curved monitor just because the glow is slightly less noticable if they still bleed like a stuck pig :o

Derp. Have you tried handling the bezel trying to decrese the pressure on the panel? If you push with your finger on it (mostly the lower part since the other 3 sides shouldn't have a real bezel) do you see the bleeding popping out? I guess so since it looks like the bottom is where there is some evident issue, all the rest should be tolerable.

Got it set up this morning and have a little play with it this evening.

Very easy set up.
Stand is excellent.
Gaming at 3440 x 1440 is great.
OSD is not too bad.

Came with Brightness set at 90 and overdrive @ medium. The latter I have reduced to Weak (per the test review @pc monitors) and reduced the brightness to 70. This ,for me , is much nicer.

Running DPB no dead pixels but when running 'black' can see some backlight bleed in 3 corners (partic. bottom leftcorner) but not noticable in 'day to day' use. Might look to reduce brightness a bit further and see if that is any better - anyone got any settings that they would recommend?

One thing that has occured and which may be an issue is that when I first ran the monitor this morning all appeared to be in order i.e. picture and blue 'on' light when after a monitor (NOT gpu) electrical 'click' the picture went black, the monitor then advised 'no signal' and blue became red - then after a few seconds it switched itself back on i.e. picture and blue light.
It then ran without issue for 40 mins.until I decided to switch off.
Tonight same 'event' but has now been running normally for over an hour.

Anyone got any thoughts as to what is going on ? and should I be worried?

Mine was also playing silly beggars at the start. I disabled DP1.2 via the OSD and everything went back to normal.

Ahhhh - Ta for this; may well give it a go with 1.1 :)

(I believe that I had confused the requirements of a 4k monitor with this one; which does not have as many pixels)

No you weren't confused. The u3477Pqu is limited to 30Hz at its native resolution unless you're using DP1.2. At least that was the case on my GTX 970.

I had to add a custom resolution of 3440x1440 at 60Hz. DP1.1 works fine.

Have you got it working without issues on your 970 with DP1.2 ? Mine goes mental trying to use 1.2. I did read there was a hotfix from Nvidia on an older driver but I haven't tried installing it yet as I'm doing OK on DP1.1

*edit* I thought it was an Nvidia issue, maybe it's not http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/221663-run-aoc-u3477pqu-at-60hz/
Update: I have now tested this on a GTX 980 and R9 280X. Using regular DP cable on both. Guess the problem lies with the monitor. I asked AOC for a firmware update, but no answer so far.

I've decided it's going back, to be quite honest I was expected a bit more from such an expensive monitor:

I'm looking to return the monitor unfortunately. The light bleed is way too distracting for a £600 monitor. There's also an issue with the display port and DP1.2, the screen goes mental, flickering, buzzing (electrical noise) and goes blurry.

Using DP1.1 locked with the menu it's stuck at 30Hz until I force a custom resolution to allow 60Hz but it's a bit of a bodge to be honest.

It also struggles to wake from sleep with windows 8.1 and the inbuilt USB hub has occasional issues with devices that aren't recognised after it sleeps, it needs powering off entirely via the manual switch.

Had none of the issue with my previous BenQ XL2420T

I had no problems whatsoever with DP 1.2 on my unit and system. I have found DP flaky on many monitors I've tested though. Signal dropouts, occasional flickering and failure waking up from sleep.

Mine has arrived , all running on DP 1.2 on GTX 970 .. all seems to be running fine , back light bleed might be an issue will inspect later when i have more time.

Is it 1.2 only or does it have 1.2a? I can find no information about it.

It's 1.2 'vanilla'. In fact it could technically be 1.2a... But 1.2a doesn't mean anything, unless it had the addition of Adaptive-Sync which is an optional extra not native to 1.2a. Something ASUS dubs '1.2a+' which I think is a good way to present the support for Adaptive-Sync.

ok the screen its self is huge and a joy to look at, however back light ugh!! i wish a manufacturer would take a time out to develop a fix for this .. i know im dreaming but ahhhh, really does put me off spending cash on any screen.

so yeah nice screen, look out for the back light ... i think mine will be going back.
