After hours of looking at laptops and not seeing anything that is 17.3 and slim, I have a couple of questions before I pull the trigger on this -

Is the only difference between the X7 V7 and the DT equivalent (CF2 Models) a 1070 or 1080? If so is there a reason to pay 400 (300 would have seemed more appropriate) more for the 1080?

Does the X7 DT V7-CF2 come with a Samsung PCIe SSD or a less desirable Toshiba equivalent?

Finally (and not a deal breaker) is it possible to reapply thermal paste without voiding warranty. I know you can easily swap out RAM and S/HDDs on these but obviously GPU / CPU shouldn't be attempted by less experienced people on such an expensive piece of kit.

@Derek712 - brilliant review on the X7 V7 DT CF2 mate, have read it like three times in the past 2 days. Was there ever a resolution to the key ghosting? Is kind of a big deal especially for the wasd side of the board playing Dota and the like.

Hi davisdavid,

Yes you are correct, the difference between X7 V7 and X7 DT is the GPU, all other features and chassis are consistent between the two variants.

SSDs are generally the Samsung model, but cannot 100% confirm this until we get reply to the question from HQ (currently sleeping in Taiwan!)

Regarding re-pasting, we are happy for users to open system and perform such tasks without voiding the warranty - installing SSD and RAM is also OK. (as always, customer induced damage isn't covered by warranty, so experience & care required)

Thanks for your interest, let us know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Team AORUS

Thanks mate, will definitely be ordering an X7, just need to decide which CF2 model cos I know as soon as I buy either there'll be a flash sale straight after it's delivered haha

Has anyone in the thread got an opinion of one over the other? I'm inclined to go for the 1080 just for slightly longer longevity. Ideally this will last around 4 years as my stealth has with its 765m and 4700hq

@Atom80 Any chance of an update/insight regarding the Command and control software situation as discussed above? Cheers.

I wouldn't be so bothered by it but the way the software seems to be integrated my system actually appears to get "borked" when i put fresh windows on. It only sorts itself out when i install C&C. Issues like performance being locked down to what i would equate to " quiet mode " on C&C and brightness being locked to minimum despite windows being at max brightness. This kind of makes it mandatory to have it.

So given thats the case ( in my experience so far ) It would be nice for the software to be on point.

Hi harry5522 - from talking to a colleague they say it is the way the C&C software behaves, but if you click on the OC Guage icon, this element isn't "always on top" and C&C remains open but in background.....

Maybe that helps in the short term - we have feedback to HQ to see if a "fix" can be worked on.

Let us know if any more Q's.

Thanks

Team AORUS.

Cheers for info look forward to seeing what the team say about a fix.

that is exactly what happened to me. It came through the door, i excitedly told someone in one of my gaming circles that a new system had arrived and he asked for a link to see it so i grabbed him a link from here to see that it was a damn sight cheaper than when i ordered it :(.

Think i'll be alright cos the X5 MD has just gone on sale for £200 off with a couple of the Sabre's so the X7 looks to be staying at RRP at the moment.

I’m considering buying the X5 V7-CF3 or maybe the X7 DT V7-CF2. Just wondering if the Samsung PM961 1TB is a suitable replacement for the supplied SSD in these?

Thanks

I have the 2TB 960 in my X7 DT V7-CF2 and it's perfect (in addition to the drive it came with) My invoice says "HD-22L-SA Samsung 960 PRO Polaris 2TB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 x4 NVMe Solid State Drive".

I also replaced the 1TB HDD with a 2TB 850 Evo. All fine.

I sometimes regret not having bought the CF1 though. What I really wanted of course was an IPS QHD 144Hz panel :-) Given the price differential and the relative benefits of the two options, I'd advise you to think very carefully about that.

Great, that’s good to know, thanks.

Do you really think the 4K panel is worth the extra ££ on a 17” screen?

At the moment I’m using an acer predator x34 with my desktop, so I’m not too fussed about 4K.... Yet lol.

Hi !

I was going to open my Aorus X5 v7, but on 2 screw there is a kind of protection, im worried that if i remove them i'll void the warranty.

So, if i open my Aorus x5 v7, my warranty will be removed ? I also saw that the thermal paste was really bad applied (i could see inside without completly removing the screw). For a 2700€ laptop it's a shame. Some thermal paste is on the heat pipes.
Can i apply my own thermal paste or i'll remove the warranty too ?

Hi Kaz, this is the answer i received in these forums from an official aorus rep.

Hi harry5522,

Glad the out of box experience was positive and you are enjoying the new addition to your family :)

Regarding warranty, you are correct in thinking you are "OK" to open up and install additional SSD (or ram) - Customer Induced Damage isn't covered by warranty, but if you have "skills" and confidence to perform the tasks, which we are sure you do, then Warranty isn't voided by opening the machine and performing these upgrades.

Atom80

however please note that im not speaking for Aorus here, just pointing out what my experience with this was and what everyone else seems to have received.

The response I got from Vendor Rep @Atom80 was:

Think you can but if you break it you void it which is a grown up fair enough way to go about it.

Hi kazurdan - as other have already mentioned in posts above, we are OK with you opening the unit to install additional hardware, and re-pasting type tasks, without voiding warranty. (as per usual, customer induced damage isn't covered by warranty, so proceed with care, and preferably experience :-))

@Atom80 when will the X9 hit the UK?

Hi MiSJAH !

Thought this unit might float your boat, and judging from the email we received, we were right :-) I have one by my side and have been stroking and caressing it for the last week, certainly is a nice piece of kit.

We are expecting stock very soon, hopefully in the next week or so, will update when we have firm ETA.

Thanks for your interest :-)

Cheers, thought it would have been 1080 / 1080 SLI instead of 1070's. Not worth the price premium over the X7 range with single 1080 (IMO) although it does look stunning.

Hopefully get the X7 DT V7-CF2 next week when I get home, though have just seen the X7 DT V6-CF1 (6820HK, 32GB DDR4, 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD) with a 1080 instead of 1070 for £2,659.99 which is incredibly tempting. Take a hit on the CPU for double RAM and SSD and save £240. Hmmm.
