**** Apple Media Event - 'See you on the 7th' (7th September 2016) ****

Of course small details wont be there but for the most part I'm just waiting for apple to confirm the small bits.

I'm pretty sure all the leaked stuff I've seen is true. It's been that way in the past all the way back to the iPhone 4.

I don't think you realise how these leaks and rumour sites work...long gone are the days of being surprised at Apple events.

I don't think there's been any surprises on Apple products thanks to rumour sites and leaks in the last 5 years. We pretty much have every detail confirmed of an Apple product 6 months before release and we already have a good idea of the next years product a year in advance.

Are you new to Apple products? :p

Indeed. All the leaks from the last few years have been true. I expect the phone we've all seen from this years leaks to be the real deal. So it'll look very similar to the current 6 / 6s.

So not every details then.

Granted we know a lot about the iPhone 7, but we don't know much about next years' phone, most of that is speculation.

The details that aren't included will be stuff like "an extra 1 hour battery life" or "it's now 10% more environmentally friendly" so basically stuff you're not interested in anyway.

Sure it's speculation, I'm not disagreeing with you there (despite my caffeine deprived dismissive posting style today :(), but what I'm getting at is that 99% of the time, speculation regarding Apple products as long as it's on a reputable site, tends to be bang on.

By the way, can I have your PC please? It's rather nice

Apple leaks have become more common in recent years, to the point where the case designs are often leaked months before the real article arrives.

That's not to say there won't be surprises, but generally the surprises that aren't already leaked are minor.

Here's a list of rumors that are already leaked. You are welcome to quote after we find out later tonight:
  1. The name "iPhone 7" and "iPhone 7 Plus" are now registered trademarks (link)
  2. 2GB of RAM for base model / 3GB for "Plus"
  3. IPX7 water resistance and 12MP cameras (link)
  4. Dual-lens rear camera on the iPhone 7 Plus
  5. Storage capacities of 32 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB
  6. No 3.5mm headphone jack
  7. "AirPods" aka Bluetooth headphones to be launched as an accessory
  8. Pressure-sensitive click-less home button
  9. Some site reporting as many as 5 colour options

Personally, I also expect Watch2 but I doubt we will see new rMBPs at this event.

Granted, speculation seems to come to fruition, I just don't think next year will see a huge difference to this year, even considering that it is the 10 year anniversary. It'll most likely be a huge OS improvement and the usual under the surface changes of a new chip, more RAM, new colours too.

Ha cheers, feels weird as I haven't upgraded it in a year and it still runs everything perfect (when I get time to game!).

That bothers me a bit. I currently have a 64GB one. To make the smallest size 32GB and get rid of 64GB annoys me as I expect the 128GB model will not be the same price as the 64GB model.

It should be. Apple haven't upped the storage for years so they are currently taking the pee with the base storage. The cost of 32gb vs 16gb per handset is tiny but with their volumes of sale that means millions saved. They don't tend to charge more for each "version" of storage when they update the base, mid and top storage options.

Personally I will probably get the 128gb if the rumours are true about the camera being able to capture 4k @ 60fps. That would eat through storage.

Next year will be a massive change

No iPhone has ever been significantly better than the previous model (with the possible exception of original iPhone to iPhone 3G). Apple just know that the sheep will all come and replace their phones with the newest model, so the £600 baby steps remain profitable! :p

This does apply to some other manufacturers as well (Sony with the Z1 - Z2 - Z3 etc immediately springs to mind) but nobody has mastered the art quite like Apple.

Were they not still using dual core chips when most manufacturers were starting to move from quad core chips, to octa cora/dual quad core chips? :p

I've got the 128GB thinking it would be overkill.

Ran out the other day and had to drop the bitrate on my music!

What on earth are you using it for!?

Thats a huge amount of music to be storing on your phone if its music that is filling it up.

When they went from the 16GB/32GB/64GB options to 16GB/64GB/128GB when the iPhone 6 came out, the price structure stayed the same so a 64GB iPhone 6 was the same price as a 32GB iPhone 5S. As long as there's 3 storage options the price will be £539/619/699 or whatever it was last time I checked.

I can't sync all my music and photos at an uncompressed quality, because there's simply too many items and not enough GBs. I tend to drop the music bitrate to 256kbps AAC and avoid syncing camera phone videos.

Annoyingly, this means the initial sync takes 24hrs because it has to transcode the files 1 by 1. If I sync the music in native Apple lossless it takes a few hours at most :(
