Apple Pay Launch - How will it be activated?

Loaded up my NatWest mobile banking app yesterday and it asked me if I wanted to activate/sign up for apple pay. I declined as I still don't really have the foggiest idea what it actually is.

Similar too the wireless payment on your card, but done through your iPhone. I think its a step up since you need to actual Auth it with your finger print before it pays for something.

First time to try to use it in EAT, it lit up to recognise it but didn't go through since they don't take Amex via contactless, even thought they take Amex via chip and pin.

Same at Starbucks with an Amex. The machine said contactless wasn't available with this type of card. At Tesco last week, value was a few pence over £20 and the iPhone confirmed the transaction was done, but it wasn't.

If you have a Mifare card reader, you can get your contactless card's number. Same with the phone, hold over the reader, get the TouchID prompt and it'll spit out a code.

Only difference is, the card will always be the same; the phone has a different number each time.

I used it for £1250 in Apple Store yesterday, some retailers have no limit for Apple pay

If you go through the correct accreditation there is no limit.

Oh, that's interesting.

My Mom currently uses a standard chip and pin mobile GPRS payment terminal for her small business and I want to get her a new NFC enabled one so she can accept Apple Pay as she's probably due for an upgrade, but I was waiting to hear more about the payment limits being lifted as most of the transactions are £40+

Might have to look into that sooner rather than later if some retailers/terminals already allow it.

When First Direct went live on 28th, I got my debit card registered in my phone and Watch PDQ. Had been gagging to try it out, so I made a deliberate lunchtime trip to Waitrose yesterday - currently the only place near where I work that accepts it.

Used my phone this time 'round, but will try the Watch next time. Love it as a payment method - so simple, convenient and because it needs a fingerprint, presumably secure. The old girl on the till was blown away and got me to explain how it all works, which as an Apple nerd I was only too happy to do ...
