Apple post record profits.

And so, the slightest mention of Apple in GD brings out the trolls.

This is getting old. Haters gonna hate etc :o

Both camps are full of trolls and at least the trolls are more amusing then the boring serious types who can't take a joke and drone on incessantly about their boring products.

Generalisation:

Mac haters; "Wish I could afford a Mac"
PC haters; "Wish I knew how to fiddle with my PC"

I bet if money was no object more people on here would own macs. I bet if some of the Mac users didn't have prior bad experience with Windows then it might still be an option for them.

Swings and roundabouts tbh.

My C2D Macbook is coming up to 4 years old. Over the period it's been prefect, even the battery is still in great condition. If/when it does die or software overtakes the hardware, I'll be very happy to replace it with a 13" MBP.

I've had a lot of technological gadgetry over the years, a few items stick out for their quality and long life. My Canon 20D is still going strong with ~weekly use for some 6 years now, the Macbook and my Ti Seiko. Quality products I'd be happy to buy again. That's why Apple make money.

If they were a lot cheaper (PC prices) then i would certainly have got a Mini-mac and an ipad. But it's so much money it would be utterly stupid to spend that kind of money on a device that a PC can do for half the price and the same perforamce.

I agree, I own a lot of Apple products. It's just a solid, very capable platform of quality.

All my Apple gear works, not messing around. You pay a little extra yes, but it pays you back in years to come.

The only reason for the growth was because of 2 single products the past 6 months. The iPad and iphone4. While the iPhone 4 was too little too late (as in it didn't change everything, again) the iPad was quite unique at launch because nothing that compared existed at the time and given the popularity of the iPhone many people jumped on it who were fans and because it goes hand in hand with iPhones too.

Saying that, these 2 products won't help then over the next 12-18 months especially considering this fall onwards we see the release of many iPad competitors, some running Windows, others running Android and all better specced and featured than the iPad by all accounts should cost less too.

You only have to look at the smartphone uptake for Android vs iPhone in the States for 2009/2010 and the sales figures to see that Apple is just having a brief moment.

I don't see them saying the same this time next year while companies like HTC/Samsung etc will be continuing to post profits and masses of new phones and tablets.

And all without the pretentious marketing to boot.

I'm keeping this quote for next year ;)

P.s. the Android market share in the US means little in the big picture, 1) the numbers include multiple activations of the same device 2) it's available on 100 devices and every carrier and the iPhone is on 1 carrier and 1 network architecture 3) what are the numbers across Europe?

I think they'll focus on the OS side of things now, with a major launch of the next operating system while bumping the iPhone and iPad to include the best features of the devices that HP decide to launch this year.

Pretentious marketing or not, it works :p

The iPhone 4 slogan "This changes everything. Again" really annoys me. It changes relatively **** all, shut up. I've used Apple products and really don't see the justification for the price-tag. Fools and their money I guess.

Too many other companies have clocked on to Apples iphone idea and are already making it cheaper and in some cases better.

Just look at the Orange San Francisco for a start.

Not really. I used an iPad and iPhone for example, I like them both but I don't like:

1: Their pricing.
2: Their limitations.
3: Their marketing.
4: Lack of robots!

When my Desire boots, an Android dances on my screen. That alone makes my day ¬_¬

Haters gonna hate.

Meanwhile, enormously successfuly companies gonna be enormously successful.

This ^

Oh and the poster saying Apple's Market share is declining must be reading different reports than everybody else. Even therecomputersales are going up in a time when Dell et al are struggling to keep the same or even down on last year.

Apple arefar from perfect but it just seems to be a trend to have a go at them. I wonder how many people here could steer a company from near bankruptcy to record profits in such little time & then keep the company fresh.

Oh but all Apple do is create overpriced crap and Toys R Us operating systems. Amirite?

You may not be :p

Many other people however are!

Especially those that feature in the Apple adverts!
