ArcheAge, Ultima Online's rebirth?

I am finding getting the larger (16x16) farms a bit of a pain in the butt. My friend has managed to get one so I'm sharing his which is cool. I do think though there should be some competition for things like this but it is a little too much competition at the moment. Hopefully will be better on release, I am sure too that it has been mentioned by the Devs that the Aplha server is way over the population they are expecting. Other than that, the game is incredible imo :)

that chucking down a housing plot? should be lucky there's any space... and land will only get more scarce.... until an expansion with new land xD

in UO it was always a nightmare trying to find a plot of land as it was all taken. I remember when the AoS expansion came out. It took me about 2 days of trying to be able to successfully log in and remain online longer than 5 secs and timing out.

(EA had terrible hosting/releases even back then in early 2000's :p and that was only a few hundred thousand people.... let alone millions lol)

by that time every single lot of land in the new lands (malas) was taken!!! pretty much the only way to get a house was to wait for an IDOC or buy a finished house/plot from another player.

though from my waders last night, as there is a smaller population a lot of houses have gone so it's a bit easier... just gotta save :p

I am tempted by this game.... but it's a lot of money to throw in if I think it's just "meh"... need a free trial!! :p (secretly I hope it flops and UO magically becomes much more populated again :p )

The trick with the land is to walk around and check the "demolition" times and dates for all the properties and farms. People don't pay their taxes and farms and houses are always falling down, then you just go there when its due to fall down and pop yours down. I've placed several small farms and large farms and houses by doing that. Just yesterday I placed a large farm and a house , both on plots I had scouted before hand as due for demolition.

A 2nd alpha server is coming shortly too, which will be a fresh land. Plus of course , at release only people who "subscribe" will be able to place farms/houses, which will cut down the number of structures around. In the meanwhile, here are some screenshots from yesterday :D

I bought in the Aplha the other day, quite like that game although only just started level 11 now. Where are the sreenshots?

So what's the verdict on this game from actual old-school UO players? Is it a similar experience or nothing like it at all?

I started UO in 1997. There are several things which are similar, the crafting, the way you can viably have a crafting character. The ships, the housing, scouting for IDOCs, the more open PvP (even being able to be killed by your own faction)

There are also several things which are not quite as similar...for example, whilst the PvP is a nod to UO, its not quite as open as UOs PvP (or as harsh a penalty).

Overall, I would say its similar , one of the more similar ones that I've seen since UO. Not quite exactly like UO though. Its not so much a clone of UO, as a kind of son of UO, embodying some of its features but with aspects and traits of its own. Its much more like UO than 90% of the MMOs out there.

That's exactly what we done to get the first one..no luck on mine though, there's always at least 3 or 4 peeps waiting for the demo too and they keep beating me to it lol

I played UO too back in the day so know all too well how it was :P I'm also not after a house, just a 16x16 without paying like 40g :) I just feel that because farms etc are as important as they are, there shouldn't be 'as much' competition. Not saying there should be none, but I feel it's a bit too much :)

Does anyone know if a GTX 750 or 750 Ti would be enough for this game? Or should I fork out a bit extra for an R270? Building my girlfriend a new PC on a budget but we both want to play this when it comes out, she only games at 1280x1024.

I played on a 670 GTX FTW previously and was more than happy with the frame rate.

I am loving this game but stopped playing untill they bring patch 1.2 in the next few weeks!!!

My system is
W7
i7 2500k
280x
16GB RAM

Runs well!

watched a bit of a stream last night... was some people on a boat just cruising, flipping the boat over....flying along side on some kite thing, telling people to jump off.... and then leaving them stranded "just because" xD

deffo looked like a very pretty game. but I'm not sold yet... and costs so much to get into the playable alpha, think I saw $150 as the "buy in" price as the lower donations/founder packs are all sold out.... this true?

Still on the fence about shelling out $150 for this myself... would hate to buy and beta come a week later ! Will maybe wait to see what happens for the moment.
