ArcheAge, Ultima Online's rebirth?

I have dropped this and I'm waiting for a EU release, has anyone got any details on that?

Beta is due to start next month, the game is in good shape so I'm not really expecting a particularly long beta. I don't know if there will be EU servers for the beta but they have said that there will be EU located servers for release.

As much as id loved to play this i just dont have enough time to do it justice. Would be great for the student/unemployed. :D

Yeah time is a concern of ours too, particularly in regard to managing to build and then keep a farm or house from falling down. The fact that you can make an ingame "family" and have them all have full permissions to a farm/house goes some way to helping deal with that, but would be nice if that went 1 step further and the "family" could pay the taxes on the farm/house too, rather than just the owner.

Levelling/resource gathering we're ok with as is, we've been playing on and off for about 7 days or something and have got 4 characters all in their mid 20s, so given that we were levelling pretty slowly anyway as we were wandering about looking at everything and taking our time over things, that was a reasonable speed. In that time we managed to also gather enough resources for several farms, a good size clipper ship and a small house. So that's ok too. Just the issue of the maintenance tax on properties really.

What's the combat like? I never really got that involved in it and it annoyed me due to the tiny amounts of lag when playing on the asian servers

Its pretty much the same as most tab-targeting MMO combat. You pick 3 skill lines from a choice of about 10 or so (bit like the Rift system) to create your class. Melee is suitably slashy/bashy/choppy feeling, magic is suitably big boomy feeling. I like the synergy of skills and how different ones activate off of each other to create combos. Ship combat is arcadey rather than simulator-like , yet actually feels like its paced correctly to represent ship to ship combat and does actually have a little strategy and skill in how to sail the ships involved.

Overall though, I'd say the combat is the standard fare, its not revolutionary combat within the MMO market by any means, but its the sort of combat a person might expect from an MMO and comparable to most. No better, no worse.

The class system in AA far surpasses most MMO's with it's depth, basically 10 skill sets that break down into 120 possible classes.

There is something for everyone this way, and you can level up the other skillsets too but have to start from 0 with them.

Some are OP and others need tweaking but that's the joy of alpha.

It's pretty easy to make money in AA, 300g in a month here from uprooting, farming, and selling everything from mobs.

Had the oddest thing happen last night, the missus and I killed an elite mob in Marinople and the thing dropped a bag with 65g in it. I've never seen a loot drop with that much gold in it before.

So, is the PvP a gankfest until you reach max level, or can you be in any way effective while you're levelling?

Bit of both really, I'm currently around about mid-level and I've dropped some people and been obliterated by some people. Like most cases of PvP, its always better to be max level though, also as most cases of PvP its best not to run about alone ;)

So far there is quite a lot of ganking in the 35-45 zones but that can be reversed as when you reach 50 you just do the same and go over to the eastern continent and pick on lowbies.

In a 1v1 against a player who is within 5 levels you stand a chance, all depends on what skill sets you have. Anything more then you get buggered.

i dropped a ton of cotton on the auction house and under cut the lowest price by 50% lol, the price dropped from under a gold for 100 to 30 silver per 100. I just dropped it now to 22 silver :)

its fun and the skill sets remind me of Rift but the PvP flagging system is very broken for cross continent battles, if they fix that it will be a great game. ganking same as in any mmo bt if you go the higher lvl zones when in peace your ok.

new patch might hurt the game though with the gilda change, i think it will make the game feel less alive as well with fewer people doing trade runs up and down the island.

Hey, im considering getting alpha or maybe beta. Just reading the forums and watching videos.
Ive played lots of mmo's but never got to max level and end game content. I love rpg games like dragon age origins and final fantasy, so I cant understand why I don't like mmos as its just social rpg's.
Yet im seriously considering getting the alpha, which I may hate and only put about an hour in. But I may love and play for along time.
I really would like one game that I really like and use all my gaming time on. If I had to guess why I burn out of mmo too quickly maybe I play the same class in every mmo. The warrior/close dps roles, which play pretty much the same throughout every mmo.
I did like my ranger class in rift, just firing off arrows and doing pretty well in pvp. But stopped playing as I got bored of the quests. I loved the story side to star wars the old republic as im quite the fan of KOTOR and of course star wars itself. But it took too long to progress through the story, and yep got bored of my warrior class.
Elder scrolls online the first mmo I attempted to craft and enjoyed it, yet got bored of the class and the area I was doing the quests in.
So you get the idea, from reading that what would you say my problem is?
You may say short attention span but if I like the game then that's it, I play to completion. The last game for me that I seriously loved was dragon age origins and I finished that in the first week. Since then I haven't played any game like that, sure ive finished lots of games and enjoyed them. But I never truly loved every moment of it like DAO. That's what im trying to find now, and I hoping to find it in an mmo.

I am finding getting the larger (16x16) farms a bit of a pain in the butt. My friend has managed to get one so I'm sharing his which is cool. I do think though there should be some competition for things like this but it is a little too much competition at the moment. Hopefully will be better on release, I am sure too that it has been mentioned by the Devs that the Aplha server is way over the population they are expecting. Other than that, the game is incredible imo :)

Not so much so, and I think that is mainly due to Trion having the reigns (sp?) They did a damn good job with Rift and have tackled things like the dreaded 1.0 patch well imo.

I guess only time will tell though :)

Did you read my earlier long post, do you think this is a game I should try?

Oh yeah Trion are a good company, your right about rift.

Just read it now and I feel exactly the same way :). Am on that crusade for that one game where I spend a long time on it, I think a lot of people are too.

As for answering your question, it's really hard for me to say as everyones opinions differ ofc. Especially when £109 is involved. I will say though, that I personally have not had one ounce of regret so far. But I don't think I see myself playing this for years like I did UO or WOW.

Sorry if that's not really helpful but I really don't want to be the guy who says "yea get it, get it!" then you hate it hehe :)
