What you have to remember is a lot of webshops use automatic pricing rules and logic, so when demand is high the price goes up without any human interaction as its just following a set of rules based on web analytics.

Hi All!

I've spent the last hour and a half on the phone waiting to speak to someone at Overclockers, finally got through to someone and been advised they took no stock of the EVGA cards and that they're currently reaching out to suppliers to find out when they'll get them. When they finally do get them they will send an email out but there is no ETA on this.

Hope this helps someone in the same situation as me! :)

Reading the first post would have saved you from that phone call. :D

The following cards are in stock right now and shall be available to order around 14:00 today, quantities are limited and expected to sell out straight away, GOOD LUCK!

- Gigabyte Eagle
- Gigabyte Gaming
- Asus TUF
- Palit Gaming Pro
- Palit Gaming Pro OC
- Zotac Trinity

Stock arriving over next few days:
- MSI Ventus
- MSI Trio
- Asus TUF
- Palit Gaming Pro
- Gigabyte Eagle
- Gigabyte Gaming
- Zotac Trinity

I've ordered my Gaming X Trio at 10.26PM yesterday and now it is "Order received - not yet shipped".
Whatever that means.

I've requested cancellation of my order im gonna be patient and wait till nvidia get stock in their store and grab an FE for £650 instead of paying £720 for a lower level card.

Honestly these retailers should be ashamed of themselves price scalping

Heres a thought, what if the 3080ti or super appears in reasonable numbers to buy in or around the 28th October?
Nvidia have had the market research already done for them by the debacle of what this launch has been. They know people are now prepared to much more than the msrp for these cards, even the scalpers (scum) on the bay are probably gonna sell "some" of those cards at vastly inflated prices.
So now they've lined potential buyers up for later on when AMD release RDNA2. I might be wrong though!

An online 'basket' isn't the same as a real world shopping basket - it's just another page. You haven't 'reserved' the item when it's in your 'basket' and you only get the product once you click the buy/purchase button.
With orders coming in so quickly yesterday; from the time when you saw the price on the product page to when you pressed the 'purchase' button, enough stock had sold to trigger the increased price.

The original prices on the site were a farce, its that simple, I as a purchasing manager myself I would have started the prices off as they are now, which are competitive compared to other e-tailers, rather than create the illusion of cheaper pricing, now I understand the tactic, but is was poor one, and arguably an unethical one at that. The interest in these cards were off the charts, they didn't need to play the 'cheapest launch price card' and end upsetting whole swathes of their own customers, it should never be about about making larger short term profits, company reputation is important, every single one of my customers is treated as a potential long term contract, and trust is a key element of maintaining that contract.

What you have to remember is a lot of webshops use automatic pricing rules and logic, so when demand is high the price goes up without any human interaction as its just following a set of rules based on web analytics.

And who sets-up that 'logic' and governs it's rules, did AI set the pricing?

Thanks for the heads up.

This is a bit frustrating. Had I known my EVGA 3080 order was a pre-order with no ETA for stock I wouldn't have ordered it from here, or would have picked a different card. I foolishly assumed it was ordering for stock they had ready to ship, I was not aware of this thread listing stock until late in the evening.

Some people here need to realise that just because your order went through doesnt mean it is going to be fulfilled anytime soon.
I see many people expecting their card to rock up next week, but in all likelihood it could be at least a month before you receive it.

Its like they are surprised and dismayed its happening. Havent these people ever experienced a GPU launch before or seen the OCUK website straining under the weight of people trying to access it ?

Its like the 9xx launch all over again :)

If the price displayed at the point where you finally confirm the order is not the price charged then yes that would be a valid complaint.

The price changing between hitting 'buy' on the first screen and then changing while navigating through the remaining parts of the process, while annoying is not of itself 'illegal'.

The key is that the price displayed before that final click has to be the price you are charged.

Having dynamic retail pricing based on stock cost isn't usual for consumer products, for exactly the reasons that everyone is upset about, but it isn't illegal either, just have to be real sure that the actual price is clearly displayed before the final confirmation button.

ahh the way people where posting i thought it was literally changing when they checked out and then got stung.

like i said, once they ran out of cheaper cards they should have waited for today to list the new prices, or if the site hadnt died posted a big update stating prices will change and sales go live again at a set time. this changing mid day was just shambolic.

Maybe this calamity is a blessing in disguise as RDNA2 is due in October and if it is faster than the 3080 a potential super of TI may be released there is a place for it perfectly between the 3089 and 3090

That is automated gouging though, sorry, 'surge pricing' :) but that isn't what was claimed to be happening here.

Retail price changing due to cost price of the specific batch being sold at that moment being different to the previous batch of stock sold a moment before is a legitimate defence.

Was I foolish for ordering based on the advertised ETA? I ordered the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio as it mentioned ETA of today. Hopeful that they would receive the stock today and dispatch same day ready for me tomorrow. Now I typed that it sounds dumb.

we know they are showing it in oct, doesnt mean it will drop then :P

Wow, I almost had a heart attack, i thought my whole order was refunded as i had pointed out in ticket that the price had gone down but:

"
We'll have more information about stock availability later today, where we'll be sending an email update to all customers with a pre-order pending.

Thanks very much for your patience!

I can see the card's current price is £719.99 so I've refunded the difference of £30 to your account.
"

Fantastic! OCUK got our backs just hang tight.

THE EXCHANGE RATE WENT FROM 1.34 TO 1.31/1.30

ANYONE WITH A MATHS GCSE CAN SEE THIS IS 2-3%

2-3% = £50 - £100 PRICE INCREASE?

PULL THE OTHER ONE.

Exactly, I wish I could reflect exchange rate prices at the time of sale for all the items my company sells. If they are really seeing these level of cost increases between orders when they order stocks with Nvidia then that's a really poor show. Maybe a bit unlikely.

That’s exactly what I did.
How hard is it to cancel an order with these guys? Think I’ll do that.
