Are City really better individually?

Only thing I'll say on De Gea is having obviously watched every United game this season I can all but guarantee no other keeper in the league has pulled off as many top quality saves as he has since the turn of the year and that is something I can be quite confident in saying despite only seeing highlights of the other 19 teams in the league.

Obviously it gives no indication of the 'quality' (which is subjective anyway) but looking at the stats, De Gea has only made 30 Premiership saves in 2012. Whereas the first other player I looked at (Krul) has 50, more than 50% as many.

Like you said that doesn't tell the story of how good the saves were and tbh I'd be extremely disappointed if keepers at smaller clubs weren't making more saves per game than De Gea as DDG should have a defence in front of him which limits the amount of action he actually has to do. Like I say though since his return at Chelsea he's barely gone 2 games in a row without being called into action to make at least 1 great save and more often than not (like against Blackburn) it's usually 2 or 3 great saves.

Obviously though his what I consider great second half of the season has to be treated somewhat pessimistically because of how up and down the first half was.

Brilliant retort.

Well what would you like me to say? You're saying he's only getting credit now because he was perceived to be utter **** during the first half of the season not because he's actually doing really well. Your whole argument was utter tripe so I feel my reply was more than just tbh especially coupled with what you said about Rooney which was more tripe.

-------------Hart
-Richards-Vidic-Kompany-Zabaleta
-------------Toure-----------
Valencia------Silva------Nani
---------Rooney--Aguero

Toure will have to be the Toure from his Barca days with that front 5 and althogh Zabeleta mostly plays RB, he's played enough at LB and the other LB's are useless.

I'm pretty sure I asked a question in regards to Rooney? Need I quote it, he seems to have scored a hell of a lot of penalties this season, no need to cry about it Tom.

Plus, I stand by my comment regarding De Gea, you're over hyping him.

I'm not crying about anything (I wasn't even the one who answered you on Rooney), the fact that only 5 of his 22 league goals have been penalties though and yet you perceive a lot of his goals have come that way says to me that you dont really know what you're really talking about so no I'm not over hyping De Gea either; he's been great during the second half of the season nothing more nothing less :)

6 actually.

Even if you look at rival clubs many keepers have saved more than him this year e.g. Hart and Friedel.

Not looking to knock the guy, I was probably De Gea's biggest fan on the forum prior to him joining MU (remember getting a few odd looks for suggesting he was better than VDS!) but I think it is very bold to claim he's made more great saves than some of the other keepers (who have themselves been impressive this season even aside from stats).

He's got 5 in the league 1 v Arsenal, 2 v Chelsea, 1 v WBA & 1 v QPR

He has scored more overall (2 v Galati & 1 v Bilbao) but then overall in all comps he's actually got 29 goals not just the 22 in the league :)

I agree it is a bold statement and like you said it's all subjective anyway but from the highlights of the games I've seen the likes of Hart, Krul, Vorm, Chesney etc etc haven't been flying all over the goal making 2 or 3 great saves every second game which I would assume would be included into a highlights package.

This is all taking away from the point that I did actually still name Hart ahead of De Gea at the start less we should all forget :p

I find the bickering over De Gea quite funny.

If people had watched him in Spain the last couple of years, they would have realised he is a fantastic Goalkeeper, and I really didn't have any doubt that he would be successful in the Premier League.

De Gea has been excellent and had success in Spain and even in international U21 competition which is really awesome for someone his age. People will criticise him even for small mistakes because he has such a good reputation and because he's now playing for Man United. If he can rise above his critics and keep improving he will be one of the best in the world no doubt.

If he was at a middle table club people would forgive him the odd mistake and he would already be a fan favourite I'm sure.

Indeed, he was always going to be brilliant upon finding his feet, so to speak.

NickG still wouldn't have signed him.

He's still not as good as Szczesny though. ;)

I love that guy, everything he does makes me laugh, and he's actually a good Goalkeeper! I'd started to think Arsenal were never going to have another!

I still think Hart is over rated :p

Most of 'those' young goal keepers; (DeGea / Chesney mainly) is just down to personal preference, there is so little between them in terms of current ability.
