Are you DirectStorage ready?

Yeah the perofmrance might be 60fps, but it's nowhere near what it should be given how it looks. Horizon/Uncharted/Tomb Raider etc etc they all look and run better. Still, at least it's not a stuttery mess like some games release :p

Doesn't stop it being a crap game though.

reviews are entertaining

Played about 15 minutes of the demo before quitting and uninstalling.

Graphics are bland. Performance seems low considering what is on screen. Gameplay is boring. You can walk around holding down the trigger and just beat everything. I didn't even need to move to beat the first (what seems like) mini boss. Just stood still and held the trigger. What's with the main character just swearing all the time?

They want £65 for this? Wow.

Loads quickly I suppose.

Quick test of performance on the 7900 XTX using the built in benchmark (which is quite long as it has many sequences) if anyone would like to copy my settings to compare performance.

88 average FPS, running 4K max settings with all RT enabled (shadows and AO) but motion blur, depth of field and FSR off. Performance seems good to me.

Performance seems okay in the demo at least, no clue abouth the full game. Insta loads the save even on Windows 10 and probs 2 seconds max even on normal SSD.
Game may well be crap, but performance is absolutely fine from what I can see. :D

Not for the graphics you get for this game it isn't. The graphics on Horizon Zero Dawn is on a completely different level imo :D
Game was free for me. Graphics actually seem quite nice from what I have seen at 4K max settings, game is not my cup of tea though so not sure how much I will play it after the initial interest wears off. Will put up a long video tomorrow from the campaign. Also looks like the demo may not be as demanding as the full game.

Unless the demo and full game have different graphics then we will have to agree to disagree. Go check out steam reviews, that is what many i saw there are saying too.

The graphics look like what I expect from a 5-10 year old engine, not modern times. There is basically no AO, not even any baked in GI, everything has a light outline, bright sections are full of bloom, vegetation is there but it lacks "life" (look at Witcher 3, Days Gone, Horizon etc, all have superior vegetation that is immersive).

As I recall even Final Fantasy 15 had better graphics.

I was expecting really bad graphics from how it was described so was quite surprised when they were not as bad as was made out.

Same with performance really, that's why I don't always pay too much attention to use reviews.

A few screenshots from the start of the game, not played any further than the first few minutes.

Yes tbf it could do with some more AO. There's an option for it so I do wonder if its buggy and not even working properly atm. Similar to Spiderman with AO when that launched.

Get to the open world bit where the actuall game takes place and take some pictures then :p

The AO option is very basic, it does work but the implementation is veryminimal, Digital Foundry covered this in the PS5 review, and it looks like this is all lifted right onto the PC port with no extra quality increase. All the NPCs and character models look like plasticine too, just looks like early gen "modern" take on what game engines would look like.

Look at your screenshots, the lack of NPC and character shadows from the light source is.... wtf? RT shadows are in use too. Distant objects basically have no shadow.

the only tech that this engine is showing off is Direct Storage, and that's not even an engine feature but a Microsoft one that all games will one day be using :p Luminous engine is only used in one other game, Final Fantasy, so there's not going to be any drive to enhance it further.

Hmm, even my slow ax sata ssd doing fine in the game. As for performance, maxed out on RX 6800 at 4K FSR UP, close to 60 fps, would need VRR ideally. Not bad at all tbh. Actually even enjoyed the initial gameplay section I played through, so I look forward to giving it a shot once it lands on gamepass. ;)

here is some benchmarking the loading times

This test was done using an engineering sample Phison E26 PCIE Gen 5 drive.

The time it takes to load a save file from the menu is as low as 8 milliseconds

Not really worth the extra cost of updating the SSD to Gen 4 or 5 just for the sake of a few ms difference. Gen 3 = Instant load as it is unless I'm missing something.

You're right. The real benefit of DirectStorage is being able to stream large amounts of data in real time. This game doesn't do that and you can see thatsbthe case by looking at the disk usage while he's playing the game the SSD is mostly idling after that initial map load.

For this game no. But I am sure eventually there will be some games that make use of it better during gameplay. But god knows when we will get those. Unreal Engine 5 games maybe.

I would be happy to just have most games do what this one does going forward.

The best bet is getting a NVMe that works on a PS5. Then you know you are covered.
