Are you doing anything with Hue?

I’d recommend it. Just wait for a deal on the eTRVs - i think i paid £120 for 3 inc a hub (which you can then pair with the sockets which are much cheaper than smartthings and work just as well if a bit bigger). Note, very easy to install where you already have normal TRVs but you might need a plumber otherwise. Good luck!

I'm messing around with a web based hue UI over at https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/any-demand-for-a-hue-based-web-application.18813285/ if anyone wants to have a mess around, interested in any feedback or ideas.

At the moment it can't do everything, but it does give some controls over lights and groups.

The site is running on my Azure subscription, so it's not ready for thousands of users or anything, but it should run for a while on my free credit before it expires.

Looking at motion sensors for use with Smartthings & Hue, how easy are the Xiaomi ones to set up?

Also anyone used the entertainment setting for Hue, as far as I can see its only Razer products in the app that work at the min. Would be cool to have hue lighting react when gaming and watching films.

Tempted to automate the hallway/landing with two of the cheapest £13 hue bulbs and a motion sensor at the top and the bottom.

Got my hallway on a sensor, it's great. Got a second sensor for the landing, just waiting for bulbs to come on offer again, then I'll change the light fitting and get it fitted.

Why would you buy the xiaomi ones when the smartthings ones are half price?
Because the smart things ones are still twice the price of the xiaomi ones, also the xiaomi motion sesnors also detect light levels which is a big plus for me.

I’m just trying to work out the best positions for the sensors and how to set them up the best before I buy them.
Don’t know whether to have both sensors bring both hallway and landing lights on if they detect motion or each sensor set to the light that’s near it.
If we move from kitchen to living room across the hallway in the evening I don’t want to have the kids woken by the landing light etc, I’ll figure something simple out

Probably best to have them separate. Although you could set the landing to come on as a dim nightlight past a certain time

I've only got few zones so far. But best to have them separate I've found. I just place them loosely above my door frame at an angle facing outwards. Using stringify to put together strings of events for a nightlight etc. Although need to get a colour light for that red hue.

Ah yes... I've tried and failed to have something that would switch on with movement between sunset and sunrise with smartthings and hue.

I assume the Xiaomi sensors just show up as a thing?

I briefly looked at using custom code and OMG it looked complicated.. I mean I've flashed roms on phones and I don't mind using a terminal command so I wouldn't say I'm shy at trying something but I couldn't make sense of it and quickly decided it wasn't for me :)

I just picked up couple of Hue White E27 bulbs from Maplin. (2 pack for £19.99 as they're closing down)

I was planning to swap out Hue white and colour bulb which is currently used in my Porch lighting fixture, the colour aspect is wasted, I was going to use it elsewhere.

Anyway, the Hue White bulb doesn't want to work in the light fixture which is strange. The Hue W&C bulb works perfectly fine in the exact same fixture... and the Hue White bulb works in another lamp, so its not faulty, it just doesn't want to work in the Porch lighting fixture whereas the Hue W&C works flawlessly and has done for 6 or so months... any ideas?

I am using a B22 to E27 converter, but I can't see that as being the problem as the Hue W&C has no problems with it.

Here's a photo of them side by side:

EDIT: False alarm, it just needed to be screwed in super tight. Looks like the Hue W&C contact at the bottom is 'domed' whereas the Hue White bulb is flat, so needed to be tightened super tight to ensure it was touching the contact in the adaptor I was using
