Are you doing anything with Hue?

So because you have a room that doesn't suit coloured lighting then it's rubbish for everyone? TBH when I'm watching BBC One it doesn't bother me that I'm getting a non reference colour reproduction, but we have white walls and neutral decor so the lights let us vary the ambiance of the room as we feel like it.

Also, I have a colourful piece of art in my hallway so reckon you've been misled that yours is a one off. ;)

What does it mean when a Hue bulb blinks on and off repeatedly when switched on? Just got a set out of storage and one of the bulbs is playing silly buggers.

Can't see it from the App and Lamp Stealer doesn't seem to want to work.

Is it knackered?

Just to defend my post, although I don't need to, I haven't seen a single example of the strip lights or of coloured lighting where i think it looks good. All the examples I've seen so far and from googling look like they're trying to reproduce some kind of club. It's just my preference. I also don't like uplighting behind the TV or above/below cupboards so maybe I'm just boring.

I think the schedules and geofencing are great, plus the IFTTT, so I'm picking some up, but won't be faffing with colours (well I can't cause I went with WEMO).

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the colours personally. Although I do have some LED lights behind my TV, I usually keep them on white/low white as well.

Do love the hues. It's definitely addictive, though.

tl;dr I find it pretty unusual that Amazon would pull their own listings for an out of stock product like that unless they aren't getting any more in, usually it just says temporarily out of stock.

Is the hue lighting dead on it's feet now? I know we've just had christmas but i'm seeing out of stock products everywhere (even before christmas it was like this). Got an E27 starter set on a lightning deal (the only starter set Amazon themselves seem to be listing, the B22 +Gu10 kits are only being listed by scummy resellers) for my room with a view to get a couple of dimmer switches (one for me upstairs) and a few of the white bulbs for down stairs (mum has muscular dystrophy and has trouble walking now) but lots of places are out of stock and amazon has pulled their own listing for the £20 stand alone dimmer (although they have a listing for what i presume is an older version as it says "There is a newer model of this item: blah blah" for £34 which then links back to the one they have pulled their own listing from, leaving just scummy resellers with over inflated delivery prices). I know there is the dimming kit with the switch and a white E27 bulb for £30 (which now works out cheaper than the stand alone switch) but our downstairs fittings and the lamp are bayonet fittings. I know you can get adapters for bulbs but they always seem to have **** reviews and i assume they make the bulb even longer (our wall fittings are quite small and a lot of normal bulbs poke up over the top as it is).

I don't really fancy investing in a dead product line.

Currys and Maplin seem to have stock ok?

It might just be an issue with so many selling with the deals over Christmas and stock is an issue? Or maybe CES will announce a 4th Gen so waiting on that?

Looking at the market and reading home automation blogs it would see there is definitely a demand for Hue/LIFX products so don't think it's dead in the water.

Why are they an investment?

I don't mean an investment like stocks and shares :p. I mean with both the monetary investment into both them (hub, bulbs), related tech (Alexa) and time (setting up scenes, automation) then the cost difference over the life between the white and colour bulbs isn't that excessive.

I'm a fan of the colours and they do work particularly well in the kitchen. Though the only reason I haven't rolled them out throughout the whole of the downstairs is because I've got 8 GU10 spots in the living room and 6 in the kitchen corridor/pantry .

Totally get that the won't be everyone's cup of tea and equally you can't assume the opposite. Just took these but ordinarily I wouldn't have any lights on in the daytime!

Oh and for whoever mentioned it, I am a professional photographer :p.

I'm gonna be working on my lights soon but not going with HUE, I don't think that will be the way forward as the bulbs are expensive.

I'm either going to go with LightwaveRF or Insteon as they have dimmable switches, I'll then have seperate LED lights along the edges of the room for any mood lighting.

Just so you know, Lightwave can integrate with smartthings, and there is a way of getting insteon lights to too, although in both instances you require a man in the middle.

I recently got a new Logitech Elite remote which works pretty well with Hue, turning on/off certain lights when you start/stop activities works well, and you can program buttons to certain scenes or settings for lights etc.

Well I ordered a NanoLeaf Aurora set and so far impressed. Setting it up and integrating it with homekit takes just a couple of minutes and the animated effects do create some very cool ambient lighting.

Ohh nice! How long did it take to arrive? Need to get some more funds before ordering.

What was the total including import duty etc?

What pattern did you make?

Never mind, just found out you can get them from Amazon and it's cheaper than buying direct and paying import duty. Got a set arriving tomorrow, couldn't resist :D

Been playing with my Nanoleaf all morning, absolutely love it! So much better than hue, well, different. But much bigger impact for a single set of lights. Great for open wall space instead of using a hue spotlight or light strip. You can be so much more creative by colouring each panel individually or using the presets.

Very bright too, a great bright white light when needed, which will be great in my room as I only have one window.

The only problem I have is they've included some green generic looking sticky pads. Not the cleanly removable command strips as advertised and used in their setup video.

I'm quite annoyed about this, I use command strips everywhere in my apartment as I rent, and they're great for not leaving any lasting damage to the walls. I'm concerned the pads included aren't like this.

I've sent them a message and now I have to wait before I can mount them :(

What did you get in your pack GSXR?
