***ArmA 3 Thread***

27" 2560 x 1440 or Triple 24" 1080p?

I am due a monitor upgrade and am unsure what I would benefit more from in Arma 3.

A single 27" at 2560 x 1440 OR 3 x 24" at 1080p.

Currently running a single 1680x1050 22" with occasional Eyefinity at 3 x 22".

Appreciate any replies guys, thanks.

ArmA3 seems fairly disappointing in crossfire. It works but it doesnt really improve performance, even maxing settings out.

GPU activity switches from 1 GPU to the other, but rarely if ever uses both evenly. Even if i slap every graphics detail up super high, viewdistance high or low etc. this is MP or SP, both its fairly lame. But it works and runs, just no real or any noticeable performance gains from 1 card. (290s im using)

The game was always CPU intensive anyway, but its frustrating to not get some increased FPS :/ especially when you're in an area that doesn't have a huge CPU load from AI and such. Very annoying to see CPU and both GPUs sitting at 20% load, but only getting 30-40fps -.-

yeah I've been playing ArmA for 6 years now, pretty in tune with how the settings effect stuff, the server will impact client performance but generally only when the server starts dipping low FPS. Server FPS below 10 will begin to seriously impact clients. Ours runs for the most part at 45-50fps and in general doesn't cause the clients any pain, but I'm getting bad results in single player too.

I was on stock 4770k clocks (Had to revert a bios version to get CF working) and so lost my overclock -.- and being the pleb I am, i forgot to take a note of my settings! grrr ArmA2/3 has always responded well to a nice CPU overclock.

GPU usage on 1 card was generally fairly decent, but 2 just seems poor. a very quick BI forum search shows not a lot of love has been paid to multi GPU in arma.

If anyone has some trickery though I'd love to hear it.

I generally keep shadow distance low, object draw 1.5-2k, and view distance 4-8k (situation depending).

Actually, i'm not sure how the Alive module scales object draw to viewdistance draw when in MP. Being a Pilot I generally need the high view distance, and to be fair even on the ground The game looks pretty ugly if you're running around with just 1k view distance!

I don't understand why the headless client style stuff wasn't implemented into the A3 server exe. HC (while great, and works excellent) is a ridiculous half assed work around.

Because they are used to the community fixing their game. Just have a look on their forums and you'll see a lot of fans defending everything from the poor performance to low features level. With this kind of values, they are never gonna make nice money from it. Probably the game is ignored even more due to Day Z which STILL has some major issue.

The best way to "setup" your game, is to go into editor and set the settings, but some headroom must be left for the AI and other stuff.

Overclocking is a must, especially in heavy AI situations, the difference was huge for me, over 30% and close to 40% going from standard clocks to 4,5GHz on a i5 2500k.

There are many more, which you can find on the full list. As with the upcoming Games for Windows Live shutdown, it's down to individual publishers as to whether they want to update their games with new server technology.

Activision and Capcom said that this will not affect their games, and Bohemia explained that Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and Arma 3 will migrate to Steamworks, while some of its other games will now have a “more limited multiplayer experience.”

So I can add my arrowhead to steam now ?
