***ArmA 3 Thread***

New choppers just showed up on dev branch:
2014_10_20_00003.jpg

There are seperate variants of the taru (opfor one) for each of its modules and the civvie chopper is a reskinned Mh-9 minus its benches (Called M-900, it has that random colour/texture function applied to it)

When can we expect this new content? Excuse my ignorance but I'm out of the loop with it really.

Will there be a big patch or expansion available soon?

All I know is I'm sick of the same old content now. Seriously in need of some new small-arms weapons as well.

You can get it right now if you switch to the dev branch on steam, but it doesn't officially release until the 4th. Apparently the civvie chopper has been mis-labeled as DLC content, once fixed you wont have to buy the DLC to get full use of it. There's also a new skin for the armed orca as well as lots of misc items in the editor for mission building.

Well I installed A3 on my work machine and brought my gtx260 in from home, loaded the editor in the middle of Pyrgos town and was getting 30-32 fps on the settings I use at home, this confirms that the gpu is my bottleneck.

For reference my work machine is: -
i7 [email protected]
16Gb ram
ssd
win7pro64

I repeated the exact same test back on my home machine and pulled the same if not slightly higher fps (the drivers on the work machine might not have been fully clean as it normally has a quadro2000 card in it and some of the drivers may have conflicted).

Now looking at what gpu to get, posted in the gpu section and 660ti/670 seems favourable although the latter is outside my budget I think :(

The Arma series is all about joining a group and playing third party mods, BIS are lazy, they rely on the community making there game playable then when they can be bothered they simple steal decent mods and put them in the full game.

Can you show me where BIS have "stolen" a mod and put it in game Crap? Pretty serious accusation to make...

They certainly took a lot of inspiration from things like arma2 ACE mod when implementing systems into A3, but they iterated on these ideas. (fatigue, inventory etc)

And i believe the EULA allows them to basically use mods, though they of course don't just straight up steal them.

Yep, the EULA allows them to incorporate mods for their own use if they want (and without payment). I wish that they could use Blastcore and UPS Patrol script. Anything, to make the AI use building positions or fire from vehicle positions automatically. Incidently, started learning to script my own missions. Having lots of fun with triggered BIS_fncSpawnGroup. I am now learning how to spawn units in random houses at random positions, so I can place a marker over a town and spawn snipers in unsuspected places. :)

In general stuff from A2 that was modded in, ropes, backpacks etc have been taken and improved in the implementation within A3. And they're a lot more stable. This is good in my mind. And I'm fairly sure those guys who put the effort into ACE are glad they don't need to do it every time BI release a new game.

Xcept1 and MarkeR will tell you the mil sim stuff, but for loot/survival style games... Epoch and Breaking Point :)

Breaking point is closed to new players during the free weekend according to their twitter. I have not tried epoch so can't comment.

Arma 3 has a lot of flexibility in the mods from what I have seen so not sure if it would possible to try that many over the weekend esp when BP and epoch are decent sized files.

I wouldn't call them lazy, misguided in some directions yeah but there are people behind the scenes that try so hard to get stuff pushed in the actual game but it all comes down to a select few that have the final say.

As for stealing - imagine it.

Arma 1+2 backpacks were horrible, even with some mods.
If arma 3 came out with the same people would complain
If they made it better, they stole it.

Come on, what BI do in this genre is unmatched by anyone else and yes, most of the game is made better by mods, like a lot of other games.

The fact they even keep the game alive and relatively true to it's core while smashing out fixes and additions so often, it's a rare thing to see a company stick to it's roots.

It certainly isn't perfect :p

Thats disappointing. BP was the only mod i knew of before downloading Arma so not being able to play it kinda sucks.
