***ArmA 3 Thread***

Only just got this game and put in about 6 or so hours so far. Im really enjoying it, been playing quite a bit of King Of The Hill (Hostile Takeover ? I think). Next thing I have to do now is learn how to fly the choppers, I had a quick go in the editor and that quickly ended in a ball of flames haha.

I have two questions :

1, Does an xbox360 controller work well with the helicopters ? Or do I have to faff about for ages to set it up ?

2, I have heard about a sound mod called JRSR or something. Is this worth the download and will it work with KOTH that im playing ?

Thank you.

KotH is great, you should also try AFC's server. Another mode I just started playing and quite enjoy is the Capture the Island mode.

I think it's better. It's a lot more tense and thus more rewarding when you do well and especially when you win. H1Z1 being a lot more arcadey I find myself playing it when I can't be bothered to focus and just want to kill some people and see where I end up.

I think it depends on the mood. Arma takes some time to setup your loadout and get into the game. H1Z1 is really straightforward and doesn't take as much time.

Having said that, I think H1Z1 feels more rewarding when you play with a friend(s) since the stakes are higher. When playing on an Arma server with 60-80 players, it doesn't feel as much of a personal experience as H1Z1 does.

Since ammo is so limited in H1Z1 you actually have a chance of going after the a-hole that tried to kill you on sight or at least attempt to run away from the fight and survive.

Both are completely different games so I would never say one is better of the other since the comparison can't really be justified. One is a brilliant military simulation and the other is a zombie survival sandbox MMO.

360 controllers do work quite well for controlling vehicles, but personally I much prefer using just a mouse and keyboard - I've been used to it for years and it will never change!

The mod you're thinking of is JSRS. As you said, it's a sound mod (and a pretty damn awesome one at that!), however whether or not it will work is another story. The server you play on has to have a "key" on its server files to allow clients to use that mod. That also applies to pretty much any mod in the game! :)

Excellent thank you. I'll look into that tonight.

Ok well i'll see how i get on with the editor and see how well i can adapt to it.

As for the sound mod I do remember someone saying that it may not work. So in response to that, lets say the server doesnt have the required "key" for the sound mod. Will Arma throw up a massive error and not work or will it just use the normal sound files as before ?

If you have the mod activated it won't let you join the server if the server side mod keys aren't installed, if you use playwithsix to handle your mods and servers you can make collections of the mods required for the server and activate them when you join.

JSRS dragonfyre is awesome, turn your headphones down though!

played some Invade & annex tonight, was good fun, makes it much better when everyone plays to their roles correctly. The AI's aim can be unforgiving sometimes.

Managed to get a pilot slot towards the end of the session, enjoyed some balls deep hot LZ drop offs

Was running blastcore + JSRS Lite

Like you Marker, I think ACE3 will certainly bring me back to Arma 3! Planned features certainly sound promising, would be a fool to expect anything but that though! :D

Thank the lord, ACE have been making the arma series of games far more bareable for years

Glad they are stepping up to the mark since agm has now been abandoned
