***ArmA 3 Thread***

DirectX 12 won't magically resolve the engine threading issues/optimization though unfortunately.

Correct. I think the game pauses the simulation while you hit Escape, so the bellow screen shots will be with Sim ON while in game and Sim OFF while paused.

Settings Screen and sim off, 60fps.

Sim on with view distance 2500km and about 1500km for objects

Some quick thoughts on current state of DX11 in A3:
- GPU always not doing much
- Although the rendered distance is BEHIND what you see, it still takes a HUGE chunk of performance because of occlusion non existing/working, etc.
- Object quality only at low, on ultra the performance drops BIG time.

What DX 12 could do:
- allow FAR GREATER view distance and BETTER object quality at similar settings
- the extra CPU time can go into inefficient sim and AI workloads
- extra objects around the islands (cars, furniture, derbies, rubbish, greater view distance for grass etc., at least through mods)
- lower input lag and smooth out performance drops when turning around due to the game inefficiently render far beyond what you see or ... what you see but in DX11.
- every light source can finally have shadows (hopefully they'll fix their lighting system altogether).

etc.

I do hope the lighting gets some loving, particularly long distance rendering. Flying at night and having entire town lights pop in at fairly close distance is the biggest immersion killer for me, especially when the airport runway lights seem to render fine at long distances. Did ask as dev about it once and the response was it was a DX11 limitation but I get the feeling I was being fobbed off*

The close 2nd biggest immersion killer is the low res terrain mesh at long distance causing buildings/rocks/trees to float slightly, but now I'm just going off on a rant...

*I say this with absolutely no evidence whatsoever to support my claim.

Arma 3, How do you play it??

Hey guys,

First off I appreciate there's already threads for Arma 3, but they seem to be for a single mode/mod IE Breaking Point or other.

Ive just bought the game and I'm a complete noob so I thought I'd ask you guys what modes do you actually play whats worth playing?.

So far I've been linked with Braking Point, I like the idea of this game, I do have DayZ already but this mod/mode for Arma 3 seems more polished. So can anyone recommend me other game modes or mods to try out, with links to the site to DL the launcher would be great, I'll try and keep this thread updated for others like myself that's new to this game and have no idea on where to start.

www.thezombieinfection.com - Is the link for Breaking Point.

Normal Arma 3 thread would have sufficed.

I've already concluded that Melbo won't like you, so you'll get snotty responses from him.

As for things to try:
Breaking Point - Mod
Epoch - Mod
Invade & Annex - Mission
Capture The Island (CTI) - Mission
King of the Hill - Mission

The very nature of Arma means that if there is something specific you want to do, there'll be a mission or mod for it.

No really, you don't need your special own thread.

Loads of active/friendly Arma 3 players that use the Arma 3 thread and can point you in the right direction and help you out.

My thinking was I'd have a list of current game modes with links that people recommend playing on one page so people don't need to search through pages of text over 2 or 3 threads.

Well, I cant please everyone I guess, but thank you for the list of modes to try I will be taking a look, the thing is it's such a huge game and from what I can tell not all modes are available on Steams workshop.
