***ArmA 3 Thread***

I'm just downloading this now. Never played an ARMA game before so interested in seeing what the fuss is about.

I will be running it on a GTX660 non ti so will let you know how it runs to give you an idea.

I tried it this morning on my 660 for 10 mins or so and it ran great on auto which was mostly high. Do play at 1280 x 1024 though which helps

Great thanks, a rough idea is all im after as i know its nowhere near optimised yet :)

Ooop almost missed this, any idea of fps? Ill be on 1920x1080 which will probably make a significant difference.

I noticed somebody linked my RAMDisk tutorial in this thread. Well I must apologise.

I missed a very important step in the tutorial (hence why the video is now private). I had to reinstall the game because of this, so again I'm sorry if you had to reinstall it.

I'm working on the tutorial again this time obviously including all steps needed to get it working.

Spent 30 minutes this afternoon - I've only played with the choppers in any great depth so far and I am impressed with the graphics. Still fiddling with the settings but I think most things are turned high atm with 6k view distance gives around 30fps on an empty map (phenom ii x4 @ 3.9 and a 5770). Still got some fine tuning to do as i'd imagine it wont run as well once I get into a battle or two.

Anyhoo choppers seem to be a bit more resistant to hard landings. I dropped the ka60 from as high as 15m and it didn't damage at all (25m and the engine went red though). I like how the analogue (dials) cockpits have more working and accurate instruments, especially the speedo that works in knots and the altimeter that references sea level. However I think they could have done more animations with the glass (screens) cockpits, especially becuase in the ka60 the dials are facing the co pilot, not the pilot. Bit annoying having a dead speed/alt readout on the screen in front of you and having to keep glancing arcoss. Also I think the sounds are a bit off balance - engines are too quiet and weapons are too loud both in first and third person.

Oh and whilst this isnt really a moan/complaint, they seem to be harder to control with no tail rotor than in A2. Still need to experiment more on that one, but the ability to crash land harder does help a little XD

I'll try to get my head around the bazillion different infantry stanses and take the multiplayer for a spin a bit later this evening

Why won't my work day end!

Threw together a list if a few ideas for an attack and defend mission.

Melbo

Will have a chat about this with you later, see if we can work on it together.

Build an ambush mission, there used to be one on flashpoint, servers used to run, you'd all be on side of valley waiting for ai armour column to roll past. Could even make it so players are the column too and have to make it past the other teams ambush (location along route unknown)

I have never play a ArmA game before, but reading this am I right in thinking that the people running servers can make there own missions for the players to do? It's not like BF3 or anything where you have fixed game types? like CTF, TDM, Conquest etc.

For those that wish to play Wasteland on Arma 3, i've got the new mission file and have uploaded it to our dedi server box.

ArmA is a sandbox FPS military simulator. Basically it might look like BF3 but it plays nothing like it. Your character movement for example is based on the movement of a real person and animated as such. This means your actions can feel cumbersome but thats part of the feel of the game. You have to think like your in the head of a soldier not a character like in BF3. So in that way it's doesn't play like any other FPS.

You have an entire island to explore which measures in thousands of square kilometres with no load transition between areas. You can make any mission you like and if you can script you can make in depth campaigns. It's also moddable so you can download new units and vehicles from community sites.

Not to be confused with the Wasteland servers run by Marker, Melbo etc.
