Fed up trying to join a ****ing server and the game freezing. I've been trying to join the MGT server for about 15minutes now and it always loads to a certain point then stops responding. I've restarted my PC twice and Steam about 5 and still no luck. They need to get it sorted it's a ****ing pain in the ass.
You tried running in windowed mode mate?
Helis are terrible right now. Its like playing battlefield3. They need to either revert to arma2 system or sort out a proper system using arma2 stuff with Take on helicopters improvements. Right now its downright retarded. you can fly upside down, flat turns increase speed, you can strafe at high speed. you can descend into the ground without taking damage and when you lack it "locks" you to the ground.
I really hope they dont keep this carebear crap.
Well it feels easier to me, i didn't fly heli's much in arma 2 so don't have much experience to compare to, they just seem smoother and easier to me.
Are you running with any overlay? TS3 etc?

Well, as much as I was looking forward to playing Wasteland, I'm going to have to leave it for quite a while. The game is absolutely painful to play on my PC, it's slow as mud. Seems like my GTX275 and Q6600 just can't handle it. It ran swimmingly on Standard in single player, but as soon as I joined the OcUK multiplayer Wasteland server, it was just molasses even on Low, and all shadows off etc and draw distances right down.

Sorry but why buying into the Alpha did you for one sec think it would work fine?
I got it sorted now, updated my drivers and restarted my PC again and it worked (well it did freeze the first time I tried after updating the drivers) . I did try opening it in windowed but the game wouldn't start :s
Nope mate, no idea what was causing it.
Nah, but I did expect to be able to play it at least lol

I have never played an ARMA game before. Is it best to get the ARMA 3 Alpha or ARMA 2?

Arma 3 defo, it should be a far better game come Beta/Full game. Arma 2 will only get less and less popular now with less and less people playing it. Then when DayZ SA comes out there will be less people again playing Arma 2, I'd say.

Arma 3 alpha is not the first arma game you need to play.Not enough content to keep a new player interested untill it becomes a full game.
Arma 2 wasteland and i44 wasteland are much more fun and worthwhile playing.Arma 3 is still very very early and imo not really worth bothering with it's got this horrible floaty feel and lack of weapons etc obviously not to mention the constant crashing of servers etc but that's to be expected for a while.
I'd defo take advantage of the pre order price of arma 3 though it will be £30-£35 on release instead of the £20 you can get it for now.

It's the mission file, not the actual game itself. There are loads of missions out now though so have a look around.

Oh ok, I'll take a look then. Is it just a case of there being so much stuff in the Wasteland file that causes all the problems then?
Wasteland is fairly ambitious and script heavy without the overhead of using it on a broken buggy alpha. Throw in such an early game release and its going to be fraught with issues. It will get better with time no doubt but at this stage its a pretty tall order to expect a mission like wasteland to work flawlessly.
