Armed gang violence. What's going on in Liverpool?

We're also hearing about Cashman's previous convictions - he has 18 previous convictions for 33 offences.

Sometimes you've just got to admit that people can't be rehabilitated, and just aren't capable of living in society. Who would have missed this man, except for his deplorable family? I know capital punishment isn't looked fondly upon, but people like this bring nothing but misery to folk who are just looking to live their lives without impacting others. What is the point in their existence?

Hopefully there is a Christopher Scarver type in whatever prison he finds himself in.

We need the death penalty for people who have over 10 previous convictions. Someone like that is never going to change.

They should have made him attend court, even if in a one way sound box. We should be able to see the loser.

I can't agree with that. Although these people are utter scum I just can't get behind the state killing people. Make their life hell in jail, I'd be in favour of hard labour, make every year they live hard, zero perks and keep them in jail for life for such offences.

These kinds of cases really sicken me. They are complete scum and should be executed and I would happily be the one to do it without any remorse.

You only have to see the video of his arrest, read the accounts of the witnesses and now see his past record. The fact he is on the streets at all after commiting so many crimes is wrong, and now this leniency has resulted in the death of a nine year old girl.

I desperately hope this sentence is life but I fear it won't be.

These judges really are blind to reality.

"But [the Judge] says that while she considered a whole life order, she has decided it is not merited because the planning and premeditation was not directed at the child."

There is something wrong with our justice system that this kind of lowest of the low scum commits a crime like this and doesn't get locked up for good. The fact she wasn't the intended target is (should be) completely irrelevant. Drug & gun crime combined and this person will be back out on the streets at some point in the future, its not right and I don't believe represents what the vast majority would have chosen as the right level of justice in this case.

No she's not blind.

She's applying the law as written, the law is very specific about offences and as the aim wasn't to kill a child that (correctly under the law) wasn't taken into account, however the fact it was a child killed, and in their own home was.

The sentence that has been given is effectively a whole life sentence by another name and is going to be exceptionally hard to challenge to get a reduction I suspect.

Agreed, a sentence that is as good as whole life term. Although I think it would be better to just lock him up and throw away the key for good and not give him a parole hearing at all ever!

He will know doubt die in prison anyway either later or before knowing what it's like in these places, inmates do not take kindly to a child killer!!

If you waited for the full sentencing to be read you'll have heard that he's pretty much locked up for good.

76 before he can even apply for parole, and for a crime like this with no remorse it's unlikely a parole board will ever release him.

Apologies, I thought life meant 15 years, I didn't realise it could be a life sentance with a different amount of years.

Still don't think he should ever be released, but with a minimum of 42 years (as long as that minimum is upheld) then I suppose its as good as.

No, their reality is the rules by which they must sentence by.
This crime though is not a normal crime that occurs all the time and we can have standardisation for. For a criminal of such scum as this person (there are no words to describe the lowest of the low that this person is), then there should be special process where anything goes.

I think the minimum term applied reflects this is not a normal crime that occurs all the time!

I very much doubt he will ever be released if he even makes it to 76 , Charles Bronson was just refused parole on a Life sentence and he never actually killed anybody although his crimes were still extremely serious hence the life sentence . I hope this scum bag rots in there or meets an unfortune end at the hands of another prisoner
