Armed gang violence. What's going on in Liverpool?

Any word on the skin colour of the perp yet? I can't believe no one has asked this yet. GD letting itself go...

Good friend of mine works on a gang unit in the met, says it's the worst his colleagues have seen it for decades.

I remember working gang intel in another life, and it was eye opening, I grew up in North London but it was like a totally different world.

Shocking about the little girl and her family, and the young lady Sunday.

The Police have been defanged. Not enough of them, too may political policies forced on them. They have become the front line for mental health services and failures of the past like brutality and racism have tied their hands today.

For large parts of society, and not just the poor, the agents of social cohesion are missing. We no longer actively enforce rules or societal norms on people. On the contrary the prevailing narrative is that any enforcement of social norms is oppression.

We have totally screwed up. I fear little short of authoritarianism is going to put the genie back in the bottle.

You're probably right. With rising crime and the 'forces castration due to gov cuts and the wokes shouting louder, it won't be long until the public's acceptance for a nationwide ID scheme gains enough traction. Everybody tracked, every purchase digital, everyone profiled. The crims not need worry just yet though, the current gov's IT system are still booting up.

Agree Police need more manpower to deal with these gangs across the country and destroy them.

Look at this in cesspit London its getting worse year by year

Fully masked and covered up I think. Someone will know who he is, whether anyone is brave enough to talk is another matter...

Maybe it's rose tinted specs but I'm sure in the old days gangs at least tried to keep it amongst themselves and not involve innocents, if only because that would invoke the ire of the law. And if the worst happened, they would soon be given up by other members of the underworld.
These days they don't seem to give a **** if a kid gets caught in the crossfire.
Depended entirely on both the gang and time.

I've said it before, but my father remembers the gang violence when he was a lad, then a teen, then in his 20's, it just didn't tend to make national news. He grew up in a rough part of Newcastle in the golden days of the 40's (just before they started to demolish the old slums), then his early 20's were from memory the era of the mods and rockers.

The difference at the moment seems to be the guns and who the gangs let use them, although whoever was involved in the shooting of the kid is likely to be caught and get a really long time in jail*, because it's a gun crime, someone died, that it was a kid that died and to send a very strong message that the police may not be able to stop all gang violence but when you kill a random kid they will get you.
Even today the gangs tend to have just enough smarts to know that if you kill a kid it's going to make life extremely difficult for everyone involved because the public may not care much about a gang member being hurt but will want blood when it's some poor child in their own home.

*And not a fun time either when the other prisoners know what he's in for.

Knife crime in Hertfordshire has increased more than four times in the last seven years, figures reveal.

Hertfordshire Constabulary recorded 734 offences involving a knife or a sharp weapon in 2019-20, Office for National Statistics data shows.

That was more than four times as many as the 180 reported in 2012-13, when comparable records were first published.
In fact, there was a record high of roughly 62 knife or sharp weapon offences per 100,000 people in Hertfordshire last year.

Hertfordshire County Council’s west Watford councillor Nigel Bell raised his concerns on knife crime in a county conuncil meeting on February 23.

Its not just cesspit London.

For crimes like this murder of an innocent child I would support the return of capital punishment.

Wouldn't it be attempted murder on the target and manslaughter on the child as he didn't intend to kill the child but the target ? Not sure how the law works in cases like this where the was an intent to kill but the wrong person was killed

If the "friends" took a shot man to hospital they have someone who will know names and addresses, plus hospitals are like the BAFTA awards for cameras, so with the right sort of prodding the old Bill should have had names and descriptions now. Of course "prodding" will be anathema to the modern police force, they're probably giving him a safe space, fags and a takeaway at the moment. That's assuming some silly ****** at the hospital didn't let the shot man go. (An injection would have seen to that if they feared strong arming him).

Statistical speaking homicides across the country only a have a 50% chance of someone being charged so hopefully the publicity this case is getting means the Police will dedicate resource which will result in some arrests.

I'm not sure. Possibly. But then there is the argument than randomly firing a gun into a house carries the very real risk of killing someone. So it's probably back to a murder charge.
