Armored Core VI - Fires of Rubicon

For people who aren't aware, pulse guns (I know of only two atm and they are both arm weapons), hard counter pulse shields. You are gonna need this fact.

I have reached new game ++
Did new game remember what rank you reached for missions in replay mode?

I'm trying to decided if I try and S-rank everything before going into new game +/++

I'm only at Balteus, got to the mission yesterday and he (it?:p) kicked my butt a few times, I quite consistently got him down to like 20-30% health but couldn't close it out for some reason, probably need to focus on timing more since there's no iframes here or switch builds maybe.
The sword slash gets me often.

Enjoying it thoroughly though, yet another proof that From can't make a bad game:p

Haven't had much time to play and I also have to juggle this with other games I want to finish due to the preposterous PS+ price increase:/

The price increase to plus has persuaded me to go from premium to the basic essential when my sub runs out next July.

Good luck with Baltius he is definitely one of the trickier bosses.

I beat the game today and immediately started ng+.

Thanks, will give it a go in a while:p

Yeah, the price increase is nuts, I'm thinking about grabbing a cheap Essential card as a stopgap as the conversion will give me around eight months (I believe) of Extra. I'm into competitive fighting games and plan to move back to PC for those later. Should give me enough time with SF6 and T8, then I'll sell them and rebuy on Steam, don't think I'll want to pay even for Essential at these prices.

I use shopto for psn vouchers so usually get at least a bit of a discount. I'll stick to gamepass ult on xbsx as my subscription service and just buy the ps5 games I want (usually on the cheap via vinted physical).

Gamepass has given me Monster Hunter Rise, Wo long and a few other gems this year with Starfield, Lies of P and Flintlock (maybe next year) still to come. I did the 3 years ultimate for £110 total trick in August last year so I'm set for a couple of years still.

I'm about halfway through NG++ now, still loving it, the plot twists in NG+ and ++ are cool.

I see it's got a fair amount of criticism, mainly;
The weapons are not that balanced - shotguns and grenade launchers are OP. I've used dual Zimmermans for most tough fights myself, however, it's not that bad. Some people are saying you *need* a tank build and dual grenades and lightweight builds don't work...nope, I've killed some of the hardest bosses with lightweight builds and different weapons. Some weapons do just suck, admittedly.
Some are saying it has PS3 graphics.... hard disagree, some of the textures may be somewhat bland but the devs correctly prioritised framerate - it's highly playable on 'Quality' mode which is more than can be said for most games with that option these days. It still looks amazing to me, especially in motion, and the fact that they (allegedly) have this running on the Elden Ring engine while behemoths like SE can't make a good one for FF16 is impressive.
It's more like a Souls game than AC. Well, I haven't played an AC since the first, so I can't compare to previous ACs, but it certainly doesn't play like a Souls game lol. I feel like 'hard bosses' = Souls, which is only a meme because most games are easy.

I'm onto Chapter 3 in ng+ I downed balteus 1st time and the sea spider in 2 attempts (a bit different to my 6 hour war in the 1st playthrough lol).

I'm trying to get as far as possible before Balders Gate 3 and Starfield release but I've got a feeling that ac6 will be a game I keep dipping into for years it just plays so well.

After getting a bit bored In my Starfield playthrough I dipped back into my ng+ run of ac6.

I've just beat the Raven AC mission in chapter 3 and realised what a great farming mission this is you can beat it in less than a minute and it gives 200k COAM. If you use a beefy tank with needles x2 on your back, plasma rifles x2 in your hands and assault armor it's an easy win. I still have loads of parts to buy so ive got to decide whether to farm or just play on.

uh, it's pretty good depending on what you like. It's a very action orientated mech game focusing on levels leading up to boss fights. You can configure the mech to play differently but it's much more restrictive than a full rpg. It's 3rd person so you don't really feel like a mech pilot like in the mech warrior series. It's closer to their typical combat style, pretty fast, dodges etc but also with vertical space as you're a mech.

personally never finished it, found the story and atmosphere pretty lacking as I was going in to it thinking darks souls or elden ring with mechs but it's closer to an older style of PS3 game with more corridors etc and light on story

Is this game any good? It's on sale at the moment but the lack of posts in this thread tells me it might be a bit of a niche taste?

I thought it was 10/10. I am not a massive mecha nerd, but I like the general theme, and the game thankfully doesn't go overboard on stats like some mech games have.
Game engine and controls are fluid, it feels good to play. Story is good IMO, along with some stunning level design and soundtrack.
It has that FromSoftware magic touch that I couldn't define, but if you know, you know.
To me, it was one of those games that is a AAA single player experience that doesn't take forever to finish, which is exactly what I look for these days.
I think mecha games in general are niche, people must not like stomping/flying around in mechs.
